Based on the best-selling board game and set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Space Hulk is a 3D digital turn based strategy game that recreates the classic claustrophobic board game experience for single player and multiplayer cross-platform play between PC, Mac and on iOS.

Space Hulk is set in the isolated corridors and tomb-like chambers of an ancient vessel lost in the graveyard of space. Players lead a small army of fearless Space Marine Terminators to battle in a ferocious fight for survival against hordes of predatory alien Genestealers.

To enjoy Space Hulk, though, you have to be willing to sit through all kinds of wait times. That's pretty much non-negotiable. Personally, I think the waiting nearly — but doesn't totally — negate all the good things the game does, but your own experiences will be dictated largely by your level of patience.

Some great moments can be salvaged here, despite the ramshackle port.

Certain design decisions make the game difficult to navigate and frustrating to play. The fact that the controls and be inconsistent and non-responsive at times doesn't help matters. Still, it does do a decent job of replicating the board game feel of the original game while providing an interesting take on multiplayer that adds a bit of fun.

Devoutly faithful to the Warhammer 40K board game that inspired it, Space Hulk seems to have floated passed a whole host of unique opportunities that would introduce a universe normally brimming with colour and vibrancy to a new audience.

A smart, tough base game completely obscured by janky execution. [Christmas 2015, p.83]

Regrettably, similarities to the original board game and exceptionally rare moments of fun can’t save Space Hulk’s voyage onto Vita. Although somewhat functional it’s nowhere near the level of quality fans will have been expecting, especially given how long the port has been in development. In short, it feels utterly passionless and rushed with no real consideration for those who might actually buy it.

Got this as a free PS Plus game a few months ago and being a fan of GW and their Universe I was excited to give it a try. I'm a fan ofGot this as a free PS Plus game a few months ago and being a fan of GW and their Universe I was excited to give it a try. I'm a fan of Tactical turn based games - and in every way this one misses the mark. The game is slow, boring and infuriating. There were multiple missions that took extremely long just for the sake of being long. I spent entire turns just waiting for more enemies to spawn. To make matters worse - every movement, selection, etc... was painfully slow. The Vita had a tough time with this game - which is surprising because there isn't much to the game itself. I'd avoid this. Expand
