Delivers in spades exactly what it sets out to do: It lets the gamer be the wheelman in a non-stop car-chase movie. This is everything a driving game should be. It is, for all intents and purposes, perfect.
-
I just don't have the words to describe how much fun this game is. Rarely does a game captivate the stoic and hypercritical Game Revolution office, but Driver has done just that.
-
What a tour-de-force! The graphics are top notch, the driving itself is unparalleled and the Director tools are unique and friendly... It's pure driving poetry.
-
One of the freshest, exciting and entertaining titles we have played in 1999. Reflections has done it again with a title that breaks boundaries and creates a new level of entertainment.
-
Prepare to be dazzled, gob-smacked and taken for the wildest ride of your life. And that's guaranteed... a masterpiece. The best game we've played for ages and absolutely recommended.
-
Warning: Do not take caffeine while in the driver's seat. It may lead to insanity.
-
Eat your hearts out David Soul, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood.
-
The one main thing this game has though is staying power. I often found myself throwing the controller in disgust and turning off the game only to be drawn back to it shortly afterwards.
-
A cross between "Destruction Derby" and "Grand Theft Auto," an interesting mix of driving, story, action and a heavy film influence thrown in, Reflections has created one of the best games the PlayStation has ever seen.
-
Gt Interactive has hit a sweet spot with this must have title of the year.
-
Its cool story line, kick-ass muscle cars, and high-speed action make it a ride you won't want to miss.
-
After playing "Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit" for months on end, I had developed an image in my mind of how video game policemen were supposed to act. Driver shattered that image.
-
The exhilaration of managing to lose a cop by going down a little side alley, leaving boxes overturned in your path is just superb.
-
It's seriously fun, has tons of gaming options and is nice and lengthy with a healthy does of challenge attached to it. Major bang for your gaming dollar.
-
Given the style of this game, there should have been better analog controller support.
-
Another thing that kinda irks me is the fact that the game pretty much flaunts a late 60's model Mustang muscle car as your main ride, but yet there is only like 1 mission that lets you drive it... its never the default car in any level.
-
The actual driving controls and physics in the game are great except for one thing. The analog steering controls are very jerky.
-
The only problem Driver has is that the whole thing gets old pretty quickly.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineA topnotch driving engine and levels based on real-world locations made both Driver and "Driver 2" surefire hits. [Nov 2001, p.43]
-
If you can get past the driver's test (and the hideously hard last level), you'll find an addictive driving game that's jam-packed with crazy stunts, insane car chases and more thrills than a season's worth of Miami Vice.
-
A game that might be mediocre in its presentation but more than makes up for it in its gameplay and concept.
