Tony Hawk definitely contributed all of what he knows that makes skating fun and incorporated it into a game that lets anybody feel like a professional skater.
Fun, addictive, and exciting -- you couldn't ask for more in a game. Tony Hawk may not have the graphic flair of the Dreamcast, but it goes to prove that looks aren't everything.

best game ever made. especially the soundtrack. you get songs such has "policetruck" and "superman" and that one song that sounds like the southpark theme.

The new benchmark in skateboarding games with its realistic game play, cutting edge sound track, and surprising game depth.
It may be a little too daunting for anyone other than hardcore gamers and/or boarders, otherwise, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater might very well be the perfect video game.
A game with such huge scope that you can master it at your own pace and have a great amount of fun while doing it, Tony Hawk's Skateboarding will win you over.
So here I am, growing older all the time, looking older all the time, feeling younger in my mind.

Pulling off a smooth combo in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater feels really cool, but often requires too much planning.

Short, but fun.
Good
- the movement, speed, camera angles, and character model animations made the me feel like an amazing skateboarder. I can't even do a kickflip I'm real life. It allowed me to live that dream.
- the level designs were diverse
- camera movement is overall very good. Rarely was there an awkward moment. If there was, it'd fix itself very quickly.
- the mission goals allowed me to experience many parts of the map.
- an image of the objects I had to interact with for missions on the goals screen was much needed help for clarifying where I need to find them, without giving too much away. And I usually didn't have to fruitlessly search for it.
Bad
- can't kickflip or grab trick while jump is being pressed
- You can land in the most impossible angles when coming down from a ramp. Which is very unrealistic.
- sometimes I feel it's too easy to go over a ramp.
- the buffering on grab moves feels a bit too short. Sometimes I try to buffer a grab move after a kickflip, but it doesn't happen cause I pressed the grab move too early. So I wish the buffer window was a bit bigger.
- no second grind after first grind on the same rail
- sometimes I would be able to land in horizontal, which looked very awkward

The game that made Tony Hawk a household name was certainly worthy of all the praise it received. Importantly the controls felt very natural meaning that with a bit of practice it was possible to pull of all manner of tricks and combos. It certainly looks dated now but even today it is more than playable.
