On its own merits Valkyrie Profile is easy to recommend, but given the relative lack of high quality RPG’s on the PSP, it’s a definite must buy.
At the end of the day, you’ve got a fairly good port of a PS1 title with a few new bells and whistles which are greatly appreciated, but are left with a few old nagging issues.

An absolute gorgeous game , beautiful story , amazing gameplay .. the plot takes major inspiration from the Norse and Germanic mythology and stories . Gameplay is one of a kind , a definite 10/10 , character development is amazing, the combat is great. One of a kind experience

I played this a long time ago, when I was below 10 years old. I replayed it recently and all I can say is that nostalgia hit me really hard, so this review will be obviously bias.
This is not your typical Japanese/anime game with half naked girls and dumb tropes. This game tries to portray daily realities of the past the best it can. Most importantly you play as a goddess, a Valkyrie, your role is to explore time and space (medieval Europe) in search of brave warriors to fight for you in Valhalla (which is the last "dungeon").
This game is very difficult and the decisions you make are important (recruiting the right guy at the right time, getting the right object, etc.), it's not a walk in the park and you are very unlikely to get the true ending unless you follow a (non-spoiler) guide.
The music, stories (yes, it's plural), gameplay, etc. are all perfect for this game. I highly recommend it, 10/10 masterpiece.

Fans of the original that are still clutching to their original copies will find nothing new here, however, which is a huge letdown for anyone looking to revisit one of Playstation's greatest on the little screen.
A singular RPG experience with much to offer those who are open to something very different from just about every other RPG out there.
It's not an "FF" title for the PSP, but it is a port of one of the better and rarer games in the company's history. [Aug 2006, p.80]

I also was frustrated by a sea of poorly designed and explained menus, repetitive dungeon hacks and temperamental controls.
