However, during the developmentKonami's first entry into the FPS genre, Coded Arms takes place in an abandoned virtual reality system and its portal site inside a giant computer network. The VR system was originally created as a combat training simulator in the event of an alien invasion. However, during the development of the simulation program, a major flaw was discovered and development was cancelled and left abandoned. During this time when the program was not monitored, it kept evolving within the computer network and eventually turned into a vast and brutal VR world populated with virtual alien invaders, dangerous computer bugs and the VR system’s own security bots. Players assume the role of a computer hacker who infiltrates the abandoned virtual reality system. Gamers use up to 30 weapons and power-ups that they discover while exploring the expansive single player mode. Coded Arms utilizes the PSP handheld system's wireless capabilities for multiplayer action for up to four people. [Konami] Expand

  1. With a great premise and a visionary artistic style to match, Coded Arms delivers a solid action-packed shooter for both single and multiplayer gamers.
  2. As the first FPS for PSP, Coded Arms is a decent try at it, though not one that's really going to rewrite the books on the genre.
  3. The controls, while initially weird, can be adjusted to, and it's one of the better-looking games on the system from a technology standpoint. The problems are within the underlying design, which simply doesn't have a lot to offer beyond a bland, unappealing corridor crawl with similarly boring multiplayer.

This will do just fine until the real first-person shooters come out. [Oct 2005, p.90]
  5. Coded Arms nails the controls and graphics but comes up short where it really counts and that’s in its gameplay.
  6. A game with which the player can stay active and engaged, but not one which the player will enjoy with more than the slightest note of glee.
  7. Coded Arms is such a weak rendition of a first-person-shooter, it makes us wonder whether such a thing is even possible on the single-analog PSP.

Congrats to Konami, they have given us a game that fits the genre and suits the hardware as well as he hardware can be suited at this time. Expand

Great handheld fun. Unfortunately, it still needs a story that immerses and motivates the player through generic level layouts. Levels are Great handheld fun. Unfortunately, it still needs a story that immerses and motivates the player through generic level layouts. Levels are square rooms that lead to more square rooms. Graphics are top notch though. Controls aren't too tough to get used to. Left thumbstick is movement. Right four buttons are head/aiming controls. Similar to Halo. Every button is reconfigurable. Great game, but no immersion. Less immersive than the original Doom games. Only problem... the levels are boring, no matter how nice they look. Play it, you'll agree. Expand

Zero story and the missions are disjointed but its okay considering whats on the system. Overall this is the most mindless basic fps game ever.

The game just blows. It is a watered down generic shooter game. Don't buy.
