Both on the field and in towns, LoH is big on events...and character development. [Jan 2006, p.51]
Only a mediocre affair, which is a crying shame. I point the finger at Bandai for apparently hiring some high-school kids to translate the game.
Consider Legend of Heroes a satisfying snack that will tide you over until a must-have PSP RPG main course is served.
The good: it’ll take about 40 hours to beat, the character design is great, and RPG veterans will feel right at home with the gameplay. The bad: the dialog localization is poor, there’s a fair amount of backtracking, and the game does nothing new. The good does outweigh the bad, however.
The real fact of the matter with this game is that it does achieve its main focus. Which is to waste time. The formula of whacking monsters to make my numbers go up and make my characters the uberist is there.
While this is a valiant effort to fill a much-needed gap in portable gaming, there are just too many issues that keep this game from being all that fun or anywhere close to becoming as next-gen as the system you are playing it on.
A Tear of Vermillion does have a rich world to explore and an interesting cast. But with out an original story to tie the entire gametogether or great gameplay Legend of Heroes isn’t legendary at all. [JPN Import]
