If you're into RPGs for that rush of fun and adventure, avoid this game. Heck, avoid the whole Legend of Heroes series. But, if you've stuck it out so far and have enjoyed the storyline created by Falcom, a company respected by many a J-RPG fan, know that this game has a plot that enriches the others even as it proves its own value to the gamers' imagination.
  2. Song of the Ocean is by far the best game in The Legend of Heroes trilogy despite the fact that this one plays it safe by adding every RPG cliché in the book. Yet even without an ounce of originality or a particularly moving story, this one outdoes the first two chapters in almost every way.
  3. A traditionally produced RPG that hits many of the right notes for old-school RPG fans, and even new-school RPG gamers. Because of the intense focus on dialogue in this game, it won't appeal to those who want more action.
  4. I myself enjoy a casual, east to play game every once in a while. But if you're looking for a hard-hitting, cutting-edge RPG that will have you fighting bosses and strategizing until the early morning hours, then I suggest you look elsewhere.

It's the strongest title of the trilogy, but it's still a ways away from being a must have RPG.
  6. The story may be new, but the boring battle system and frustrating quests are all too familiar. Its simplicity is charming at points (especially in the dialogue), but ultimately isn’t enough to salvage the whole game.
  7. The world, while beautiful, isn't any different then the past two games. And the music, although it very badly wants to be important, won't be anything you find yourself humming after putting down the PSP to practice sword techniques.
  8. PSM Magazine
If you're looking for a bog-standard RPG that's light on thinking and heavy on repetition, this'll do ya. [Mar 2007, p.87]
  9. The Legend of Heroes III: Song of the Ocean is a competent and lengthy role-playing game, but it's painfully generic without the slightest tinge of originality or creative flair.

If someone had bothered to design an original game around this level of technology and artistry, we'd really have something. Too bad we got this mid-'90s relic instead.
  11. 50
LOH III ends a series that at first was tolerable, but with a frightening flatline in the level of quality, it only cements itself as dead-center average.
  12. 50
Far from a bad game, but it seems content with being merely adequate, and nothing more.
  13. Playstation Official Magazine UK
It's so weighted down by uninspired foundations. [Aug 2007, p.114]
  14. Legend of Heroes III starts slowly, doesn't build to anything worth writing about, and doesn't even have challenging combat or an interesting plot. Keep well away, as Legend of Heroes III wasn't even a good game in 1999.
  15. Tedious and repetitive at best, boring and uninteresting at worst, there’s really no reason to buy Legend of Heroes III: Song of the Ocean ... especially if you bought either of the previous two.
  16. Doesn't offer anything the previous two didn't, a generic role-playing game in every sense of the world. But it's playable, and hey, if you're really craving a role-playing game, I guess that's better than nothing.

Legend of Heroes needs more innovation in the areas that actually matter – scenario writing, game design, the tricky stuff like that – before it’ll spawn an installment worth playing.

+Decent story and cast of characters
    +Decent OST
+Remake of the 1994 game with improved visuals , effects and sound
+Special Side quest system that allows you to access areas of the first two games via save files (if you have them)
+Very long game, longer than the first two combined.

-Bad translation in narration and in game play
-Gameplay can be clunky at times in terms of both battles and outside of battles
-Some dungeons are too short while others are too long
-Due to the translation, sometimes its easier to get lost in what way you need to go to
-Slow battle system and sometimes characters/animations lock up for a few seconds

Elementary graphics, pretty good effects with a good story line. If its 3D then I might have given it a 9.
