Amazing not only for Western lovers. No other game has probably offered so many options to express yourself in the open world, and at the same time did not have such an interesting, rough and moving story. A magnificent experience, with a slightly slower start. [Issue#291]
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a magnificent open world game and one of the greatest games of all time. Its world offers unmatched attention to detail, the combat is excellent, and the story is among the best in a AAA game.
Seriously, what a game Red Dead Redemption 2 is. Nowadays, Rockstar may be a joke, releasing trash such as Grand Theft Auto: Definitive (Defective, if I may) Edition, and porting a 13 year old Red Dead Redemption 1 for $50 to the Switch and PS4, but Red Dead Redemption 2 is a masterpiece. The attention to detail in this game is wonderful (starting bar fights closes the saloon, shooting a store owner causes them to end up with bandages, animal carcasses decaying over time, NPC logic.) For a game made in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 does a lot that newer games don't. Unfortunately, their online is abysmal and was left in the dark.
Rockstar Games has outdone itself again with Red Dead Redemption II. The up-close portrayal of the outlaw Van der Linde gang’s unraveling is a compelling companion story that blends seamlessly with the original game, and depth and breadth of the open world is a technical triumph that every gamer should experience.
There was never any doubt that Red Dead Redemption 2 was going to be good, but this is something special. A masterpiece that many will be talking about for decades to come.
It raises the bar in almost all areas to a new level, which will probably be impossible to beat for all competitors at least in this generation. Red Dead Redemption 2 is another rock star masterpiece and an example of what modern video games are capable of, both narrative and staged, but above all, technically capable. The best game for this console generation so far.
Red Dead Redemption 2's evocative, often beautiful sense of place exists insofar as it is still convenient to the player, which harms some of the desperation and hardship the game means to convey.
Great story, graphics and immersive world, but has some extremely annoying forced LARP features, such as slow animations for picking stuff up and doing things (yeah, immersive at first, but gets really boring on the long run watching your character to use 10 seconds to pick up a bottle of rum), disabling running at certain places just to waste time, very tedious semi-interactive cut scenes where all you have to do is to press forward for five minutes. Why not just have a real cut scene or let the player control the character?
I understand that some people want to LARP a cowboy, but normal people are not interested in that. They just want to play the game.
Also lots of stupid progression based locked stuff. Why allow players to earn money if you don't allow them to buy anything with it. And still in 2023 contains lots of annoying bugs, e.g. changing your weaponry randomly and not allowing you access your horse to get the right ones back.
Without LARPing and bugs a solid 10/10
Horse riding and poor hunting simulator. If you want that - Far cry 5 is much more beautiful.
Worst controls ever in a game I've seen. Instead of looting item - Arthur goes to saddle a horse, accessing items or stats is behind 2 - 5 screens, always need to hold mouse button to interact with anything, shooting requires 3 mouse buttons to be pressed at the same time. No fast travel, and either you walk very very slow (3 minutes to pass 5 buildings), or run very fast, hitting and antagonizing every person. No third option.
Everything is unnaturally super slow, to make game a 100h+ oen i assume. From picking up one item taking 5-10 seconds (if it's in a chest), to all food being in one slot, so to restore your stats you need to scroll and scroll to pick the right one. To first 2 chapters or ~20% of the game being just tutorial, where you don't have access to all weapon types, and e.g. all ghunting is pointless as you don't have "good quality" skins which yo ucan use for crafting. Weapons or shops are also locked until very late missions. If you're on on a mission - can't pickup any other side quest, which is together with no fast travel makes the experience horrible. Land is empty, and main missions are the same "shoot 20 guys" kind of thing.
Most of the game is just collecting gear, which is behind some achievements, which are behind other achievements (clothes and weapos upgrades). Which are just collect X items of type Y.
Couldn't make it past chapter 2, so boring it is
Not sure why this game is so highly rated. It plays like a REALLY old GTA game with pretty skins layered over it. The combat system is sluggish. And the fast travel system is antiquated and doesn't respect the time of adult gamers, who may not have as much time to play games. Not to mention most of the riding around is just boring and wasting time and the side missions are just rinse of repeat of doing the same things over and over to pad time. If you hated the chase missions in GTA, congratulations, cause they're back too.
Open world games have moved on, with games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, as well as Breath of the Wild. It's time Rockstar updated their ancient formula and keep up with the times. The fact this game is so highly rated shows how much people are blinded by the name and title rather than judging a game for what it is, an old rinse and repeat tedious formula with a really pretty skin over it.
