Art of rally is an excellent homage to the golden era of rallying. With a huge number of cutely recreated cars and expansive stages to use them in, the main career mode is an absolute treat. The driving itself is very well-tuned, helping the player get this feeling of flow when everything's going right. There may be slender options outside of the main career and a few issues with pop-in, but they barely affect this magical driving experience.

Despite its obvious visual shortcomings art of rally is still a nice looking game regardless; the gameplay, of course, shines through brightest, making this one of the most authentic, challenging rally titles in some time. The incredible music makes the price of admission worth it alone, and if you’re after a surprisingly nuanced, deep rally game, this is the one to go for.

Art of Rally is that rarest of things: the video game as essay. Now and then, the medium throws up chewy cogitations on the nature of choice and of play—usually so inward-gazing as to cause neck ache—and you feel like saying, “Would you kindly shut up, and let me get back to it.” But the developers have instead filed a report on something they love, taking the delicious murk of their favoured sport, scouring it clean, and schooling us lightly in its history. The danger of doing that, of course, is in boring us, but Art of Rally, while a glittering reflection, is anything but dull. To do something dangerous with style may be art, but Funselektor has done something dangerous with art, and arrived at pure style.

At its heart, art of rally is a solid racing experience with a good assortment of cars to try, tracks to tackle and handling that’s both challenging yet satisfying. Unfortunately, the visuals struggle massively on Nintendo Switch resulting in a game that looks fine at best and barren at worst. This is easily the weakest version of the game and if you own an Xbox Series or PC you’re better off going for those superior versions.

If you fancied art of rally Switch and cannot enjoy it on a PC, you should wait a wee while to see what happens in terms of patch.

Is Art of Rally still a masterpiece? Absolutely yes, but on the Nintendo hybrid it is clouded by a blanket of technical problems so intrusive that it comes out terribly distorted.

This game features complex but fun gameplay mechanics and lots of content to explore, which will keep players satisfied for a long time. art of rally doesn't do so good when it comes to its graphical performance, with problems in the way the action is exhibited on the screen, not to mention a lower resolution. Players able to see beyond these flaws will fully enjoy a very demanding but overall satisfying experience.

Lots of cars to unlock, plenty of variety in the tracks, terrain types, and weather conditions, realistic physics and beautiful scenery! Oh, and the music is amazing! This game is just so satisfying when you string together a good run of drift turns and power slides! I wanted to give this game a 10/10 but I've settled on a 9 for two reasons:
    1. The game has crashed on me whilst loading about a dozen times during 11 hours I have been playing.
    2. The loading time between levels is a little longer than expected.
Don't let these things put you off! This is a really cool rally game that will keep you going for at least a solid week.

Any rally fans will love this game, but others may find it a bit frustrating. In terms of control, the game is in that middle ground between arcade racing with the car control of a simulation game. Fans of Dirt games will catch on quickly. It’s fun playing with the different vehicles and seeing your ability improve with the more you play the game. It has a nice amount of content. Lots of settings, lots of terrain, and lots of unlicensed cars which are very clear mirrors of very obvious real life counterparts. I also appreciate the subtle reflection on the history of rally racing. The graphics are very simple but they do the job very well. The visuals are beautiful, but very mild at the same time, which really makes you focus on the gameplay. However with that being said, the simplicity of the design is very attractive as well. It does have loading times that are on the longer side, it does have some very minor graphical issues that do not affect the gameplay, but overall it’s a solid title. When you get the faster vehicles, it really turns up the excitement.

The only major issue I had with the game was regarding the controls on Switch, which is not really a fault of the game itself. Switch is not designed for racing games as it does not have actual triggers, only trigger buttons. In a sport where you’re going fast in conditions while barely hanging on to the grip you have on the terrain, you need fine tuned control over your throttle. For the most part, it does not affect the game that bad, but it’s very noticeable in the wet environments because you have to tap the gas button to throttle, instead of half pull the trigger. It’s probably a better and more precise experience on the other consoles for that reason.

There is a real feeling, that the joy you have playing toy cars on a road carpet as a child has been captured, however the emptiness of the switch version and the pop up and the stuttering (especially in replay mode).
Online mode currently unavailable! There are instances of fluctuating control responses, that cause the vehicle to behave like there is a tyre missing momentarily The switch can do better than this, I feel the art style is directly comparable to lonely mountains down hill in it's use of cell shading, so why is do poorly optimised.
I am sure if it had more detail, then the immersion and feel of speed would add to what is already promising....
Nintendo got a tech demo of the idea, they then released the finished game elsewhere
They've pretty much recreated tg rally 2 on the n64 for nintendo switch (tried my best not to write this comment but stripped back like it is,, don't you agree)

In the case of Art of Rally, without some serious patching and tuning it’s fair to say that things have been lost in the move that are unfortunate, making it a tough sell even if you’re a fan of challenging and more technical racing. Aside from having lost some of its visual luster the real problem is even with the downgraded visuals the frame rate can still suffer and stutter at times. While I tend to be pretty forgiving with this sort of thing the issue is that with the racing being more challenging the up and down nature of the artificially ups the challenge with what feels like inconsistency. Hopefully it can be patched to minimize these issues but for now it’s a tough sell.
