Beast Breaker is the epitome of a hidden gem, and we would highly recommend you give it a shot. Like its main character this game may be small, but it proves to be exceedingly effective at what it sets out to do. Creative, engaging gameplay and a surprising amount of depth combine to make for an experience that may surprise at just how much it hooks you.
Fantastic and fun game with a brick breaker style gameplay. The story is good and the characters are charming. Only downside (which to me does not drop the score as it is a limitation of the platform) is that because the switch does not have a mouse you cannot be as accurate as you want. Still well worth the asking price.
Fantastic. Beast Breaker is super creative and opens the door for more involved puzzle-RPGs. It's tactically interesting and has incredible music by Big Giant Circles. Most importantly to me, BB also features touching, strong writing, with a "found family" flavor and an appropriately lovable cast of characters.
It's a good fit for the Switch, and feels right at home with a library of cozy, colorful games.
It has some bugs and a couple balance issues, but some of these are being addressed with patches.
Beast Breaker left a positive impact on me, and that's invaluable. Vodeo Games will have more eyes on them in no time, and it'll be well-deserved, with their "cozy-crunchy," heartfelt approach to making games.
Awesome variation of a pinball game! The RPG elements provide a nice level of strategy and every weapon kit plays differently. The story and characters really help move the game along without making it feel too repetitive.
Beast Breaker is a game with so much charm and heart. I have been looking forward to its release all Summer! For a game coming from a new and such small studio I wasn't expecting a game with such addicting gameplay and deep story. There is a good amount of well balanced **** representaion in the cast of characters which is super nice, especially to have a main character who is nonbinary. I enjoyed playing Beast Breakers so much, I finished it in 2 days, and am currently in my second playthrough.
At the start of the game, fighting beasts is super easy, but as more weapons become unlocked, and you come across stronger beasts that force you to think on your feet. Getting used to the different kinds of weapons is difficult at first, so I would definitely recommend taking time to read through what each of the weapon attacks do, as knowing how your weapon works is pivotal in having a successful battle. Different weapon systems and kinds of beast help to spice up the battles that would otherwise feel a bit monotonus, since every weapon and beast type requires you to use a completely different strategy to win.
The story is delightful, with every character having their moment to shine and tell you what they're all about. The critters are carefully crafted to have really humaniizng traits and every one has their own bit of charm that makes you fall in love with at least one. The main storyline (spoiler free!) is also very grounded and has more depth than just being a silly game about a bouncing mouse!
I really loved Beast Breaker, but I would say that this game is still in the process of smoothing out the recent release bugs, but don't let that stop you from getting and playing it, since the team's post release support is being incredibly responsive! I hope that this game gets the exposure that it deserves, as well as the critic reviews to help it out. Beast breaker is such a sweet and entertaining game, and definitely lives up to the Vodeo Games goal of creating cozy crunchy games.
Since reviews are split on platform, I'll post it here as well (especially since the Switch version is the one I own!) :
Beast Breaker starts as Peggle spinoff, before quickly and steadily evolving into one of the most involved tactical game of recent times.
The challenge seemingly keeps going up as the game progresses through a top notch presentation, because of all the thoughts that's obviously been poured into every aspect, up to the concise and delightful writing.
I did not know this game was to exist before last week. It is one of the best gaming experience of the year for me, and the lack of any critic review is heartbreaking.
Absolutely wonderful. The game starts off by introducing the mechanics one at a time while still being challenging enough right from the get-go to allow you to get into the swing of things at a balanced pace. Turn-based mechanics based around weapon type, skills, and placement! There is a lot that can go into each encounter with the enemy making it perfect for if you're looking to progress in the story or just sit down for a round or two with your favorite set of gear. Charming characters and positively adorable art assist with the storytelling. Each character being more than they may seem! With careful planning and practice, you'll become a mouse-bouncing master!
