Book of Demons is a hidden gem, taking some of the best elements from action RPGs like Diablo and Path of Exile. It maintains its unique paper cut-out style, while providing a fun and intriguing equipment and advancement system.
A highly addictive hack’n’slash with great art direction and many small but really good gameplay ideas. The developers wear their inspirations on their sleeve, so you can almost hear the game shout “Yes, this is Diablo! Yup, it’s Tristram! Don’t pretend you don’t remember!”. [02/2019, p.36]

FU my save, near the end, it's 4 years back save. Without a doubt it was the best ARPG even 4 years ago. Nothing near this exp. Torchlight 2 is kinda 8-9/10, but worse than that, Torchligh 1 is a garbage, D2 is legendary but outdated, D3 is bad, Borderlands Series is very different, but still average(cause it includes many game design flaws), Grim Dawn was hard for me to undestand(and to finish the game) but i've got bunch of positive emotions(and positive only), so it is hard to say. This game probably the biggest hidden gem, i've ever seen. This game is a masterpiece. True blessing. Funny review bombing from idiots, warm hello from Russia)

'90s-inspired card-building hack 'n' slasher Book of Demons is far from a perfect game. That's not the sad thing about it, though. The sad thing is that it could certainly be perfect if the developer used the full potential of this fine take on action-RPGs. Having said that, fans of the genre should definitely give it a look, if only to taste what is a labour of love that just so happens to also be technically sound.
A nice hack and slash game with the beautiful art style and solid combat. But the card system doesn't balance decently and it makes the long-term experience boring.
This is one hybrid genre piece that's ever so difficult to put down. [March 2019, p.116]
A decent attempt at a paper version of simplistic Diablo, which, however, suffers from slight repetitiveness and relative shortness. But still, it is worth a try. [Issue#292]
Book of Demons is a beautiful roguelite dungeon crawler with enemy variety and a plethora of interesting systems built upon a sheer lack of player-side input. A decent time waster, but difficult to recommend at launch prices.
Ignore all the bitter Russians review bombing this and crying "gAmEs OuT oF pOlItIcs" while their country is literally bombing civilians.

i wanted to like it more because of the unique gameplay and art style but after about 7hrs, it has gotten pretty bland. it is a bit of a slow bland game. the long time-to-kill is a bit too long due to different enemy mechanics (vision, elemental resis, spell invuln, jumping...) and gameplay got boring when it was just hold the mouse down, jump, hold the mouse down, jump, potion... also to maximize, i end up having to pause the game a lot to swap cards to handle different encounters which was pretty annoying. i am playing this as a side game for killing time

As fun as it is at first, playing this over time starts to wear you down and becomes quite repetitive. If you do get this game, I suggest you play it in doses to get the most out of it, otherwise you'll quickly find yourself getting saturated with it, like I did. I will finish the game eventually, but for now, after playing it for almost two weeks straight (and being halfway done), I will say that its fun, but gets tedious after a point.

I am torn about this game. It clearly tries to re-create what Diablo 1 was ... but worse. The aspect of item drops, legendaries/unique items ... the aspect of "crawling" through a dungeon is all gone.
Diablo 1 is superior in EVERY aspect ... even graphically. So i do wonder .. why play this recreation .. when you can play Diablo 1?
This game would work as a Diablo 1 clone on mobile .. for people with the attention span of a 5 minutes toilet break.
