Aug 3, 2020Creepy Tale is aptly titled; it had no trouble giving me goosebumps. The gloomy atmosphere is aesthetically pleasing and the cryptic puzzles will tease your brain, bordering on frustrating at times – patience and trial and error are key attributes here. This one will likely appeal to fans of point-and-click style puzzle games with horror elements.
Jul 13, 2020With a short run time of only around two hours, it’s a shame much of that time is spent flapping about, trying to figure out what to do next. The puzzles are a real downer, taking away from the player’s ability to invest in the world and truly enjoy the atmosphere. Taking everything into consideration, Creepy Tale‘s full asking price on the Nintendo eShop is perhaps a bit steep. But if you can pick it up on sale, it’s probably worth a play through for its atmosphere alone.
Jul 10, 2020The story and world in which it takes place are enough to keep the player going. Every new environment introduces the players to new creatures that call the woods home, most of which are hostile and will kill the player if given the chance. Creepy Tale's storybook art style makes the game feel like a Grimms' Fairy Tale if not for the unenjoyable puzzle-solving. While surely unintentional, Creepy Tale requires patience to trek through the forest of abysmal puzzles, but it is a short and sweet experience worth the $5 it costs to play.
Jul 14, 2020Creepy Tale can best be described as a mixed bag of different flavours. If the game's presentation is full of lovely elements to see and to listen, its puzzles feel rather forced and almost as if they didn't quite belong there. This makes Creepy Tale a game that can please fans of games based mostly on watching and listening a developing story, but less so for those looking for some stimulating and well placed puzzles.
LEVEL (Czech Republic)Oct 7, 2020Creepy Tale would work quite well for a short visual novel as it looks and sounds fantastic. However, it absolutely fails to deliver any meaningful gameplay and feels too random, short, and void. [Issue#305]

Dec 6, 2021Creepy Tale is a 2D puzzle game for Nintendo Switch, and it is quite different to anything I have played before.
You start the game offCreepy Tale is a 2D puzzle game for Nintendo Switch, and it is quite different to anything I have played before.
You start the game off walking through the forest with your brother, before you know it, your brother has been kidnapped by some weird creatures, and it is your job to find and save him, and become the hero. But watch out, if you get caught by any of the strange creatures that inhabit this world, then you will meet a fate worse than death. And by that I mean you will restart at the last checkpoint.
As you play you will have to solve puzzles, which in turn will allow you to progress to the next area. As you do this, you will find out what caused the once peaceful forest to turn into a place of evil filled with weird creatures.
Puzzles include collecting items, using them at the right time, avoiding evil creatures, sneaking about, but also luring enemies to traps and running away.
The puzzles themselves can be quite strange, and solving them may not seem as straight forward as they first appear. There is not much to help you along the way, so you will have to use every inch of your brainpower to figure things out. Sometimes you will find yourself trying everything, until something works, which can be frustrating, but when you do finally figure out how to proceed you will feel pleasantly fulfilled.
Really beautiful graphics, and some very decent well thought out puzzles to solve.
Some of the puzzles are a bit "out there", and you may need to seek help online if you get stuck. And the platforming elements can be a bit dodgy, falling off an area, or not making a jump etc.
Don't be distracted by the beautiful 2D artwork, this is a decent little puzzle game, a little short, but worth your time.
I Score Creepy Tale a strong 7/10… Expand
