This release seems to have more in common with the original release, rather than the current-gen remasters, and that's okay! Especially whilst playing handheld, the game performs well and I found myself only becoming frustrated due to my own lack of patience. I never feel like I am battling poor controls, hitboxes, or poor game design. Easily a quality title for the Nintendo Switch.

my first souls game, maybe is not the same remaster the other platforms have. But the game runs nice on switch, and I had a lot of fun with it.

is a hard game, but in the end is an rpg, so you can level up and try again and again so is beatable and is not an unfair or cheap kind of hard. Some people say the audio is too compressed but to me it sounds just fine, the graphics are fine too.

Es el mismo juego, pero para la Switch. Los que se quejan de la calidad de audio creo que solo repiten lo que han leído de otra gente, porque no he tenido ninguna queja. En portátil se ve y funciona estupendamente.

I initially gave this a harsh rating due to frame-rate issues during O&S (famously hard boss) and I was probably salty from dying. This is an excellent game to play while traveling which makes me glad I bought it on the Switch. My main issue was frame-rate drops during certain bosses and areas. It also took me some time to get used to 30 FPS. If you're looking to play Dark Souls on the go, I would recommend picking this up. The game ran smoothly most of the time, and framerate drops were hardly noticable. A very underrated way to play the game. Not as graphically capable as the ps4, but looks good nonetheless.

I was very excited for the Switch port of Dark Souls when it got announced. It plays smoothly, looks good (not quite up to par with the PS4/Xbox One remasters, but I had anticipated that. What the Switch lacks in raw power it makes up for in adaptability), and overall has been a positive experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get into the series, or having another option to play what has now become a classic in the genre (if not a genre builder itself).

My one complaint, and I actually wanted to write this review to do my part to get it out there as best I could, is that the audio is...bad. I can’t make any assumptions about what the cause is, but the audio sounds horribly compressed for most sounds (voices sound mostly okay, but they do lose some of the resonance they had in the original). The sound effects still sound appropriate (though a few have been cut, I’ve noticed), but the audio actually kinda messed with my ears because it sounded so low-quality. It’s nothing that ruins the game for me, and it’s still one of my favorite iterations of the game because of the portability, but it is something that could really use a fix to make the game essentially a 9-10 in my book. Nothing is broken, but if you want a good example of what it sounds like, think of watching a stream of the game (feel free to actually watch videos of this version, too) with low stream quality—it just sounds off, and makes you second-guess whether something’s wrong with your speakers.

Overall, I’d still highly recommend this game, and think that it’s a faithful port with some much upgrades. Just note that if you’re a fan of the series already, or an audio fanatic, you may want to double check that the audio isn’t going to ruin your experience before dropping $40.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the audio sounds significantly better in handheld mode vs. docked. My one speculation for this review is that the audio was designed to maintain decent quality on the handheld speakers, but wasn’t optimized for TVs—and especially not for good home sound systems.

I've read other user reviews complaining that this isn't actually "Remastered" and I've seen pictures that support that theory. My response? WHO CARES?! I was not actually expecting to see the same graphical fidelity as the PC or PS4 version because I'm realistic... Switch is a portable machine whose graphic limits are naturally not going to rival a PS4.

The fact that this runs as well as it does and looks as good as it does on a Switch are, quite frankly, surprising. The performance is solid and has not once dipped below 30 FPS. I was also worried that the precise control needed for this type of game would be awkward playing in handheld mode, but that's simply not the case. After only 20 minutes it felt perfectly natural!

If you have recently played the game on PC or PS4 and have no need for portability then this is simply not for you. You're not going to be wow'd by graphical improvements.

But if you've never played the game (or haven't played in a while) buy this game! You won't be disappointed!

    1. The compressed audio in the first area (Undead asylum) is pretty bad. After this first area though it isn't a problem.

    2. The 'A' and 'B' buttons are the other way round and cannot be changed in the control options. This is very confusing and after hours of game play it still feels uncomfortable as 'A' is universally select and 'B' is back.

Apart from these 2 small drawbacks on the Switch version you're in for one hell of a game. The world of Londor is mysterious and interconnecting like no other. Mechanically the game has age pretty well but still feels clunkier than Dark Souls 3. The lack of direction that game gives you is part of what makes exploring and discovering paths and secrets one of the most rewarding experiences an RPG can offer. Finally, this game is quite difficult and may turn away a few people, but as with all Dark Souls games (and trust me on this one) if you persist and get better section by section this game is going to be topping a few peoples lists.

So glad to finally experience this masterpiece and even more so to do it on a Nintendo console!

Probably the best version of the game out there.

Dark souls was designed to be a 30fps game. It is a very rare exception where a game feels better at 30. So with that being said. ( you can disagree if you want but before you do you should try playing the game at 30 and 60) I have played the moded original at 60 and it was like walking in soup. The Switch version feels much better.

The real unique selling point which in my mind makes this the best version is the portability of the switch. It's great to play on your daily commute before returning to docked mode in the evening. Also sidenotes:
    - This game wasn't as difficult as expected. You just have to get used to the fact that dying is a part of the experience.
    - And for everyone new to Dark Souls: Do not and I repeat DO NOT use a shield under any circumstance. It will ruin your fun.

Verdict: I highly recommend giving it a try.

    Rating:
Gameplay: 4/5 - Addictive and challenging. Would have loved to be able to dodge into more than 4 directions though.
Level Design: 3/5 - Marvelous for the first half of the game and the DLC. The second half sadly seems really rushed tho, and the Capra Demon arena was just plain unfair.
Soundtrack: 4/5 - Does exactly what it needs to do. But is used very sparingly and I wouldn't listen to this in any context outside of the game itself.
Story: 3/5 - Great story but not welcoming for newcomers since you have to piece everything together from item descriptions.
Graphics: 3/5 - They could have done way mor with a remaster.
    Length: 5/5 - 50-70 hours. Perfect.
Replay Value: 5/5 - Different classes and choices that affect the story. There doesn't seem to be skill sealing. Online Modes. You can play this game for ages.
Enjoyment: 5/5 - I loved my ass getting whooped by this game and I'll come back for more.

I noticed when I played this at launch there was a definite lack of other players, this may have been due to the unpopularity if paying for online multiplayer on a Nintendo system. However, as time has gone on I have experienced an increase in other players.

I'm thankful and love it how this version kept the dark visual ambience we fell in love with since DS.
Password matching is a cool added feature.

absolute masterpiece. Plays well on Switch, but i recommend getting a better pair of joycons for handheld - not the standard Nintendo ones.

Never played Dark Souls before, so my friend wanted me to buy and play together on the Switch since he doesn't have PS4 and i don't have Xbox one, i loved it so much that i became better than him in the game and wanted my help on some bosses that i already beat :P

El juego es fácil de usar pero a la hora de enfrentar enemigos o jefes como el demonio tauro después de recorrer el castillo donde te lleva un ave. Recomendado para los que buscan desafíos.

Currently I am stuck on the second boss right now and I cannot make a progress until I beat the second boss of this real time video game.

From my experience I just can say that this real time video game is definitely one of the hardest and most difficult real time video games without easy mode, so shame.

Maybe this is good that this real time video game doesn't have an easy mode, because this way you both have to learn how to play better and get better in real time video gaming in order to continue playing this real time video game. Otherwise you are just stuck forever.

I don't care that I am stuck on the second boss, because for me, this real time video game is still very fun to play and for me this what makes this real time video game so good.

All games that I consider bad are games that are too boring.

Personally I cannot play any game that is too boring, even if the game is extremely easy and I can finish it very easily without any effort.

I got into Dark Souls by accident. I had never played a Dark Souls before and wasn't necessarily taken with it at first. After about 2 hours, however, the game became more and more interesting and deeper. Meanwhile I have 30 hours behind me and can not stop.

The graphics look a bit old-fashioned, but you won't notice that later on. You are much more impressed by the fantastic enemies and the landscape. There is a lot to discover and the enemies are very difficult. Anyone who enjoys action adventures should give it a try. It's not easy, but it's very worthwhile to keep at it.

The definitive way to play Dark Souls and shows why you shouldn't underestimate the power of the Nintendo Switch. The graphics are still good and controls are great! Well, just make sure to get a controller that doesn't drift...

The game is a masterpiece from gameplay to atmospheric story telling. Playing on switch adds that portable element to an already great game and makes it that much better. The only grievance i have about the game is that for a remaster it doesn’t deliver on monumental changes in graphics. But If you can get past that this is a must have game if you have a switch

I was so glad when this was announced for the Switch. I was skeptical at first, but the game runs flawlessly. It isn't my favorite Souls game, but I had a great time playing it. Definitely worth a try if you haven't played DS3 or the Switch is your only console.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a Japanese interpretation of a western RPG; the lore is deep, the characters are interesting, the game is Difficult but Fair (most of the time) challenges: and the story is woven its narrative through mostly item descriptions, gameplay, level design, enemies, and bosses. One of the best RPGs from Japan; (and no, it's not considered a JRPG); it's amazing! There are some issues with the game that doesn't make the game bad, but still, The combat is clunky and jinky, some of the enemies and bosses areas are too small for your character to roll safely so, you have to use your shield in these areas; some of the bosses themselves have cheap tactics, there is still some old bugs in the game and some new ones as well, and the game has bad and broken net code that ascended to Omni-broken; DARK SOULS is the vivec of bad net code and Janke PVP a term coined by InfernoPlus and another stuff for the Switch version such as the same graphics as the original PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release, and more; but yeah it is still a great game and an amazing experience. Pretty dam good for a switch version of dark souls. They made a bit of a mistake with the controls IMO. Buttons are just not what I am accustomed to so it takes a bit to get locked in with them. All up though, a great port of a fantastic game.

I have beat Dark Souls so many times now, but it's a very good game. When I first got Dark Souls, I was amazed by how many things you could do, the places you could explore, the hoard of enemies you could slice through. Plus, Dark Souls isn't like some other games. When you play the game again, enemies get stronger, and even with my armor and weapons, it can be challenging at times. ButI have beat Dark Souls so many times now, but it's a very good game. It's dark souls! You know how it is. But fyi, for anyone buying the switch port just wanted to put it out there that there are almost no summons, though I assume there's more on steam and ps4. Also do not get excited about pvp, it is not good here.
