The Last of Us 2 epitomises everything about overly-produced, mass market-friendly content that many of us are becoming exhausted with. SWERY, knowing full well that his game will be castigated on Metacritic and widely mocked, has satirised every mainstream expectation of a video game in Deadly Premonition 2. There’s nothing that suggests that anything within this game is not an entirely deliberate, surrealistic subversion of expectations, and while Deadly Premonition 2 is not for everyone (and potentially offensive to some), games as an art form are better off having works like this to exist in parallel to mainstream entertainment.

The sequel to Hidetaka "Swery65" Suehiro's most memorable creation rests entirely on the same things that made the former a cult game. For better and for worse.

Dear developers, you can't treat us like this. Deadly Premonition 2 has a great story with excellent characters that are held back by an abysmally bad technical side. Fans will accept this and have fun. Everyone else will avoid DP2 at all costs.

The hardest part about reviewing Deadly Premonition 2 is that in a lot of ways it’s exactly what fans of the first game wanted. It’s a broken mess that controls like a dog on roller blades that looks ugly and runs even worse, with the bizarrely charming writing that only somebody like Swery65 could bring to the table. Nobody in Le Carré feels quite Greenvale levels of weird, but they’re all a bunch of weirdos all the same. Well, except David, he’d fit in Greenvale pretty well. If you like the first Deadly Premonition you likely already know what you want and what you’re getting into, and you’ll likely be pretty happy with this sequel. Your everyday average player should probably weigh how much jank they’re willing to put up with before giving this game a shot, though.

The problem with Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise is that it aspires to be a cult work from the first moment, something quite pedantic on the part of its author, who wants to repeat the pattern of the original title: an unfinished, poorly done video game, which stands out simply for its great argument.

From the top of its intrigue as twisty as the meanders of the bayous, Deadly Premonition 2 is surely the best bad game of recent years.

Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing In Disguise is a broken game on multiple levels. Its narrative is broken, in that its interesting core mystery fails to engage due to the most agonizing delivery possible. Its ideologies are broken, as it seems to think trans people are evil, women are weak, and black people are sentient stereotypes. The rest of it – the abysmal gameplay, unacceptable performance, tendency to crash – is no better.

The characters and the story are a joy to follow, but like the first one, people either love it or hate it. The technical side has a lot of problems, but it never bothered me. I would recommend to check how the game performs and if u can ignore that, it's really hard to ignore some crashes.
So one point gets taken away for the technical issues.

The gameplay is stillsequel to the best worst game in history, deadly premonition 2 is a less iconic and more modern take on the franchise. The gameplay is still as quirky as ever filled with little details and oddities yet completely broken and poor. It’s very similar to the first game but with serious quality of life improvements, replacing the car with a skateboard and a crafting system. The structure is also a little better giving you more time to do side quests and activity , which you will want to do as the game is quite short. The story is as mental and as weird as possible, making connections to the first game whist still standing on its own. It’s still filled with unique and colourful characters who you will get to love and still has that buzzard twin peaks feeling to it but with a b movie production. York is still his inappropriate , offensive and hilarious self and it’s nice to see him again after all these years. The town overall is much smaller but easier to navigate and overall performance is a mess with a terrible frame rate that may as well be a painting sometimes. The graphics are also poor but fits that b movie feeling. gameplay is mostly fetch quests , interactions and corridor shooter sections with the occasional boss fight. However combat is the least challenging I’ve ever seen as enemies die in a couple of hits , plus are useless , I didn’t die once during my play through. Also there are very limited enemies types. There also seems to be more mini games within this one and side activities to complete. Still overall weaker than the cult classic original. Expand

the biggest problem of the game is that it does not play as a sequel, as a spinoff game this could be much better;, but the elements are way to similar to the first game in story, and it does not feel as an evolution in any sense

Let me start off by saying I love weird wacky Japanese games and the first DP1 had its moments but this game is just tedious and boring. SoLet me start off by saying I love weird wacky Japanese games and the first DP1 had its moments but this game is just tedious and boring. So much padding was added to make the game longer than it should be. Following a dog on your skateboard for like a good 20mins with nothing interesting happening. Running up and down stairs in a building to fix some plumbing which was a chance to add a fun minigame/puzzle but instead is literally just press a button to turn the wheel. Fighting the same boring, easy enemies again and again. Zero replayability in this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From the second game, I expected better and more interesting, I was disappointed with the return of this kaisen, he should be dead, for the role of the main antagonist, someone from Simon Jones or Daniel Clarkson or Chuck Thompson would come up instead.
