Double Dragon gives you a number of ways to dispatch enemies, a few different attacks to deal with thanks to the use of weapons and the fighting generally works well. There are a few issues with the game, however, with the biggest two being its short length and its distracting slowdown. If you are just looking to clear the game, then there's little long term value here, although it is fun to go through again with a friend, battling the bad guys before your final showdown. Arcade Archives Double Dragon is not an essential download, but there's still enjoyment to be had from this old school title.

Double Dragon was one of the first of this kind and it was a home run. This was one of the first co-op games that also does not get enough credit for as well as having a legit ending. Yes, the challenge drops off when you figure out the famed elbow punch darn near makes you invincible and there is a drag with the game if you have more than three characters on the screen but this game was one of the innovators. Add in with an amazing soundtrack and you are playing history. Expand

Classico dei videogame anni 90, memorabile e divertente soprattutto in 2 giocatori.

I seem to remember loving the Nintendo Entertainment System port of Double Dragon when I was a kid; playing it today, I recognize its deep flaws (though I still love the music). I now find the original Double Dragon doesn't hold up too well, either; aside from its very good soundtrack, this is a clunky, slow-paced beat-'em-up with some weird design choices. I literally laughed out loud every time protagonist Billy Lee was defeated, as he lets out a pathetic, muffled groan that is so absurd and out of place I can't imagine what the original developers were thinking.

Anyway, Double Dragon on Nintendo Switch is alright if you have any memories of it, but if you're just a curious newcomer you can probably skip it.

You fire up Double Dragon, and you both have someYou have a friend over who used to play arcade games in the late 80s, just like you did. You fire up Double Dragon, and you both have some good co-op brawling time–reminiscing about your teenager years, fighting with the stiff commands, and high-kicking badly-dressed bad guys who're straight out of a Schwarzenegger movie. (Today, Double Dragon's enemies are more likely to remind you of Freddie Mercury than street thugs.)

At least, that's the most likely scenario for playing Double Dragon. There are more: maybe you're a fan of classic arcades, and you want to compete for high scores online. (The game also has an interesting “Caravan Mode” that rewards the highest score after 5 minutes of play, and is perfect for the Switch). Maybe you have an interest in brawlers, and want to trace back the roots of the “punch a lot of people in the face” genre. Or maybe you're just in for a game that you can complete in 30 minutes by inserting a handful of virtual coins.

But come on, we both know that it's most likely because of the nostalgia factor. In that respect, Double Dragon delivers. Otherwise, take 2 or 3 points off my score–this game didn't age well.
