    Any Minecraft-minded players out there will love it. [Issue #32 – March/April 2018, p. 73]
  2. Feb 14, 2018
A brilliant, feature-packed game that any self-respecting Switch player should be picking up right about now.
  3. Feb 11, 2018
This is still the fantastic game I remember playing back at the start of 2016 and one that works brilliantly on the Switch.

Dragon Quest Builders is fantastic, marred only by a high price point and some performance issues in handheld mode.
  5. Feb 7, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders is a wonderful alternative to Minecraft and also offers a great story for you to experience. With well over 50 hours worth of gameplay on offer, it's definitely worth your time!
  6. Feb 7, 2018
The gravest mistake that could be made regarding Dragon Quest Builders would be to liken it to "yet-another-Minecraft-clone." That could not be farther from the truth as, while of course the similarities are undeniable, this game is its own thing altogether and does some things better than Minecraft, and vice versa. Both may well appeal to the same kind of audience when it comes to broad-minded players, while maybe both being so different will make Minecraft purists detest it and Minecraft detractors absolutely love it. At any rate, it is a solid experience faithful to the Dragon Quest franchise that suffers only from very minor gripes with the gameplay and comes highly recommended for anyone who sees in there something that tickles their fancy.

It’s simple, charming, it looks great, and has a ton to offer.
  8. Feb 7, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders remains, even on Switch, a solid and fun experience for action-RPG lovers as well as for Minecraft fans.
  9. Feb 7, 2018
The game finds the perfect balance between RPG elements, construction games (mainly inspired by Minecraft) and the classic characters from Dragon Quest Series (designed by Dragon Ball author Akira Toriyama). It´s incredibly fun and deep either in story or free mode.
  10. Feb 8, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders is an excellent videogame. It combines RPG gameplay, building and creativity.
  11. Feb 7, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders is a motivating game that skilfully combines block building with RPG elements.
  12. Feb 7, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders is a construction adventure in the style of Minecraft but focused on single-player mode. A large part of the multi-player component is removed to give the game more plot, making it much more desirable for those that want to get lost in Dragon Quest worlds made by themselves.
  13. Feb 7, 2018
This port has been created in order to get some players to try this better version of the original game before its sequel arrives. However, Dragon Quest Builders is still very entertaining and a perfect choice for Minecraft and Dragon Quest lovers.

Dragon Quest Builders finds its way on Nintendo Switch, where the unique specificity of the console offers breeding ground for the endless possibilities of the game. Nonetheless, it's the same game as it was two years ago, with some fringe additions. An excellent opportunity, if you missed it when it was originally released.

If you haven’t played Dragon Quest Builders yet and own a Nintendo Switch, you want buy the game for this platform.
  16. Feb 7, 2018
A solid port of an entertaining building-crafting-roleplaying hybrid. Unfortunately the rough edges of the PS4-version haven’t been smoothed out.
  17. Feb 7, 2018
Despite a slow start, when Dragon Quest Builders starts rolling it’s hard to put the game down.
  18. Jul 15, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders is both a great Dragon Quest spin-off and an interesting take on the somewhat overplayed sandbox genre that’s only made better on Nintendo Switch. It’s a game that can be played for hours or in shorts bursts, so it’s perfect on a portable console.

It’s not just a Minecraft rip-off. Square Enix expanded Mojang’s concept and infused the game with tons of Dragon Quest. [03/2018, p.74]

It is plenty of fun, a terrific evolution of Minecraft that’s made its way to a perfect console.

Dragon Quest Builders is an engaging sandbox craft game that appeals to players who desire a more structured Minecraft campaign. It’s satisfying to build entire towns, and the RPG elements and addictive feedback loop may keep some playing for hours on end. Although I was disappointed with the segmented chapters and limited free build mode, I still had plenty of fun with the core campaign. The Switch version may not be the ideal version for everyone, but it’s still an excellent option, especially for newcomers. My only wish is that Square Enix can craft an even better experience with Dragon Quest Builders 2.
  22. Feb 20, 2018
It's hard not to be charmed by Dragon Quest Builders.
  23. Feb 8, 2018
It's easy to have a love/hate relationship with Dragon Quest Builders. Mechanically, it's a brilliant experience, with some of the best gameplay and aesthetics of any game in the genre. But the decision to break the game up into four separate parts with no sense of progression between them is jarring at its best, and downright frustrating at its worst. It could have been so much more, but what's here is worth celebrating too. It might not be perfect, but it's fun, there's a tonne of content, and most importantly, the monsters are cute as heck.

Dragon Quest meets Minecraft clone might sound like an odd couple, but Square-Enix has made the two mesh together in ways that bring the best out of both. Builders works as an accessible action RPG and as a more objective-driven take on the mining, crafting and survival sandbox genre, all wrapped up in Dragon Quest’s lovable, upbeat cartoon style.

A surprisingly successful mash-up between two completely different franchises, whose quiet charms offer a welcome alternative to incessant action and overbearing storytelling.
  26. Feb 7, 2018
A lovely art style combines with some great crafting mechanics in this delightful RPG. It really is the best Minecraft-like I’ve seen, and with the charming Toriyama art style and more structured progression system, it’s a game you can play for hours. Recommended for young gamers, Dragon Quest fans, and anyone looking for something new on Nintendo Switch.
  27. Feb 7, 2018
Combat could be better, but Dragon Quest Builders combines RPG structure and freeform creativity to great effect. It's Minecraft for people who hate Minecraft.
  28. Feb 7, 2018
The Switch-exclusive features--limited to the free-building non-story mode--add another layer of endearment to a game already brimming with charm.
  29. Feb 7, 2018
The Switch version of Dragon Quest Builders feels like the definitive version of the game. It blends the better graphics and performance of the PlayStation 4 version of the title with the portability of the Vita version, offering players the ability to play how they want, when they want. Most games on Switch I prefer mostly playing in Handheld instead of TV mode, but for Builders I enjoyed playing in both modes. Dragon Quest Builders is a great spin-off to the iconic series… if you haven't given this game a chance, the Switch is the best way to do so.

Dragon Quest Builders as a package is all kinds of fun. The way you build up towns and explore the worlds is a true time sink for many hours. I found myself constantly looking for materials, quests, or items to push towards a 100% completion. That doesn't mean everything is grand, mind you. The lack of significant updates to the camera or bosses left me sour more than I would like to admit. These problems can be forgiven in time, but the smaller chapters constantly offer clear reminders of the problems. The Switch version offers little in the way of notable exclusive content, but playing it in handheld does make the proposition an easier one. The free-build mode seems like the ideal way to play Builders, and that is more than enough for me.

Dragon Quest Builders takes all its notes from Minecraft, that’s no secret. Its cutesy art-style and bubbly characters feel right at home on a Nintendo platform. If you’re a fan of Minecraft and want something familiar with a different style and finesse, Dragon Quest Builders will scratch that itch. Unfortunately for die-hard Dragon Quest fans, you won’t get much out of this game that’s set in a universe you’re passionate about. Dragon Quest Builders on Switch brings near-PS4 quality graphics with the portable aspect of the PS Vita. If you’re going to play it anywhere, I recommend the Nintendo Switch.

Dragon Quest Builders was a great game, and it still is on Switch. This version is pretty good, although you won't find many additions.

In case you missed the chance to discover Alefgard on PS4, this re-release for Nintendo Switch could be for you.
  34. Feb 7, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders for Nintendo Switch is a nice port from the PS4 version. Portability, this time at least, is not the winning condition but, despite that, the game still shines due to its qualities.

  36. Feb 7, 2018
Interesting for those who are looking for a deep RPG and for the ones that just want to play a minecraft like game. Dragon Quest Builders is a well-rounded game that may be too repetitive as it biggest flaw.
  37. Feb 7, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders is every bit the captivating building adventure on the Switch as it was when it first released. It’s strong sense of progression, charming aesthetic and easy mechanics make it great for casual play, while its robust worlds and interesting characters make for a charming tale. It takes a misstep or two along the way, but Dragon Quest Builders isn’t an adventure you want to skip out on.
  38. Feb 7, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders is quite simply a perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch and a brilliant entrée before the sequel releases this year.
  39. Feb 7, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders for Switch is still as fun as ever, with the option to play on TV or anywhere, which is a truly rewarding experience.
  40. Feb 7, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders is an experience in itself. While not fully part of the Dragon Quest series, it gives the players enough of an immersion in its world and keeps them around for long, fun moments where time does not seem to move. Its progression system works remarkably well and acts as an incentive for the players to keep pushing themselves, making this a very involving game that acts as a perfect starter while waiting for the next Dragon Quest.
  41. Feb 7, 2018
Both classic Dragon Quest RPG and Minecraft-style building sim, Dragon Quest Builders takes just enough ingredients from each side of the developmental kitchen and gently stirs them into a dish that never manages to overpower either of its core mechanics. If you’ve ever wanted to try Mojang’s ubiquitous hit but found it a little too intimidating in its vagueness, then this is the alternative for you. Fun, empowering and Dragon Quest to a tee; Its combat and camera can be a little erratic, but they never manage to derail your new building adventure.
  42. The most interesting thing about Dragon Quest Builders isn’t what it takes from Minecraft but instead how it fills in some of the gaps that have existed since that game’s inception. Namely, storytelling, quests, and building guidance
  43. Feb 7, 2018
Dragon Quest Builders on Switch is a nice porting, with the same problems as the original title. Less good to see and technically less perfect, it manages to fill these gaps thanks to the portability of Switch, which increases the fun and immediacy.

Dragon Quest Builders is less about creativity and more about strategy. It’s a hand-crafted, charming video game that starts off slowly but never stops feeling delightful.

The game offers a variety of different options to build. The graphic is cute and the NPC's are unique in its own way. With the new version on the switch, We are now able to play on the go and this game is pretty relaxing to play on public transport and such as it is very casual and easy.

It allows you to do a lot of things and the features for building is just great. I would highly recommend this game to others.

Don't worry if you've never played a Dragon Quest game before. There are a few references to older games but the game's story stands on its own. You don't have to play any other game to be able to understand it.
