Dungeon of the Endless gives a bad first impression that hides an addictive, fun game. The poor tutorial and unclear mechanics might initially turn off some players, but if you're willing to push past that, Dungeon of the Endless is an enjoyable combination of dungeon-crawling and tower defense. While the Switch version may not have the best controls, its portability is a great combination for the game design, and even those who've played the PC version may want to give this one a shot.

On Nintendo Switch, Dungeon of the Endless is still an excellent and cruel mix of Rouge-like, Tower Defense, RPG and strategy. Port is good, even if it stumbles occasionally when there are too many enemies on screen, and it plays well, may you progress with a pad configuration and/or touch screen. It always has something to bring you down, but is charming and deep enough to urge you to go for another try and be more thoughtful. And lucky. Brilliant.

It’s a really interesting take on a dungeon game, because you’re not actively controlling anything, and it often feels more like you’re just suggesting that your characters go and do something rather than actually getting them to do it. The mechanics are incredibly cool, and managing your power as you explore while trying to defend your home and also push further into the unknown is very satisfying.

If it weren’t for some game breaking bugs I wouldn’t have imagined a better platform for this survival/tactical candy of a game than the Switch. [07/2020, p.73]

Dungeon of the Endless provides a nice mixture of tower defense, RPG and dungeon crawler strategy with a great gameplay experience. The game is challenging, unforgiving, and requires a player who is ready to fail in order to eventually succeed. Every choice can make or break your campaign, and the random dungeon generation provides variability in every attempt you make. It’s 8-bit graphic style provides a nice element to the game while keeping your attention on managing your resources and upgrading your heroes and equipment, which is where the game it at its strongest. The game’s creepy atmosphere and multiple play styles available make it an enjoyable experience worth experiencing on the Switch.

The objective is to clear a floor creating a path in order to carry a crystal from the starting room to the floor exit. When you clear 12 floors you win the run. The tactical decisions are crucial. Very very fun and smart rogue like game. A must have. Expand

More tower defense than roguelike dungeon-crawler, but very fun and thoroughly engaging.

As of version 1.1.7 the crashing issues appear to have been largely corrected, although I did experience one hard crash during my 15 hours of play - fortunately, auto-save allowed me to pick up almost right where I'd left off. Also, there's minor slowdown when many enemies are onscreen, but it's nothing I'd consider game-breaking. Overall, performance is acceptable and the hiccups are worth it.

Crashing a lot and some minor bugs. Will update the score if they fix it. When it works it’s a great game.
