The title shows off some really clever design work, and Rick’s ability to switch between seasons is used to great effect by the developers. Sometimes, revisiting levels to collect seeds and unlock new worlds can get a bit tedious, but the title’s strengths make it one of the better platforming options on the Switch eShop.

The Fox n Forests developers set out to create something that both looks and feels right out of the 16-bit era and it’s safe to say they accomplished just that. Not only did they deliver a truly breathtaking rendition of the classic art style, but also introduced an interesting mechanic to the already familiar style of play.

Fox n Forests does a lot to appeal to your retro visual nostalgia while playing well in a modern gaming world. It is full of gorgeous pixel art visuals, nice writing, and interesting bosses. I really just wish it had some good HD Rumble and was a bit longer.

If you’re a true platform nerd who likes collecting things, then Fox n Forests may be worth looking into. However, if you are seeking a brand new experience in the genre, then you may be left feeling that there’s a little more to be desired.

The game could be more enjoyable if it did not force the player to so much repetition of the levels, exposing its rather short lifespan, and if the controls did not feel too heavy at times, as it often leaves the feeling that the actions on the screen do not match the player's request.

Fox n Forests has good ideas and can really be fun if you can get into the idea it proposes.

Playing Fox n Forests feels like dusting off your SNES and jumping into a new title. Just don't be surprised when the retro visuals are matched by retro difficulty and control.

The "Seasons" feature is an absolute novelty and lets you immerse deeper into the game and gives you a glance behind the curtain;)

You will not find lots of player guidance here and for me that is a PRO not a con. Finding out secrets and upgrading your character is most rewarding. I saw the mediocre Metacritic score and just had to jump in! This might not be everyone's taste but if you are into retro games you will absolutely ADORE it!! Expand

Some people have complained about the controls but I like them. In fact, they make me feel like a kid again trying to get used to the different feel of a new game. Rick's limitations add just a slight challenge. After an hour of playing I like the duck/melee and jump/spin slash. You have to approach enemies differently based on their size and distance from Rick. Overall I give it an 9/10 for the art, music, story, and level design! Expand

Thanks to the guys who built this small peace of art! :-) Expand

The controls are decent, the dialogues funny, the artstyle pleasing enough and the characters skillset progression feels fairly balanced. I can recommend it on sale with a rating of 6.5 out of 10 points. Expand
