Game Dev Tycoon has a wide appeal to different audiences. As well as being a great introduction to management sims, there's enough to keep long time fans interested as well. It's fun, sometimes silly in the best kind of way, and hard to put down once you get started.

Game Dev Tycoon displays masterful execution of balancing addictiveness and enjoyability, despite the niggling feeling that they merely copied and/or built-upon Kairosoft’s Game Dev Story.

Game Dev Tycoon brilliantly simplifies the game development process and also perfectly summarizes the history of the videogame industry. It's very satisfying to develop videogames and see their impact on sales. However, it's necessary to mention that Game Dev Tycoon can be quite repetitive, and some current consoles aren't well represented.

I love this game so much, I made an account just to review it. I’ve been in a gaming slump, not feeling much of anything lately. There is so much room to grow within the game and I suspect it will have a high replay value. I especially appreciate the tutorials which are clear and concise. The pacing is perfect. I don’t have a single criticism. It makes me happy to support a start-up like this and I look forward to what they’ll make next! Expand

It succeeds in discouraging teen punks of ever considering to join that industry, and also is a good lesson on how insidious game creation really is.
Also it has a "history of video game" kind of lesson in it. If you remember or can guess the next big thing in hindsight, you will score well.
It's a very good game that left a sour taste in me mouth, so -1 point for that.

I'm not sure what it wanted to do. While it's a conceptually fine idea, the problem is that you're encouraged to choose very specific menu combinations. There's no point in experimenting, because experimenting is failure. The whole game is just a case of learning which options to pick in a menu, or looking it up after going bankrupt for the 10th time in the early game. Every moment with this game was terrible for me.
