If you're a sentimental fan of G.I. Joe, then you are the most likely to truly enjoy this game. G.I. Joe fans will enjoy the characters, the things to collect, the Saturday morning cartoon-ish visuals, as well as the campy cartoony storyline. For all others, this will just come across as a run-of-the-mill third-person shooter game that will require some patience to find a control scheme setting you can work with.
G.I. Joe fans haven't had much to celebrate over the last two decades, but G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout is a solid step forward in the franchise's return to greatness. It's not an experience that's likely to excite those unfamiliar with the brand, but this is a game that was clearly made for those looking for a genuine, G.I. Joe experience. IguanaBee and Fair Play Labs put a lot of effort into getting all of the little details right, delivering an experience that's absolutely worth checking out for Joe fans. The game doesn't offer anything too revolutionary, but this is a licensed game that does right by its audience. Yo Joe!
The reviews are moronic, this game is great! Would've gave it 8 but wanted to make up for all those bitter low scores. It's fun on higher difficulty and reminds me of why I even started playing the PlayStation. GI Joe is legendary and while no one is perfect and this game has points it can improve on, its still awesome to finally have a GI Joe game.
If it weren’t for bad gunplay and aiming mechanics that have to be surmounted, Operation Blackout would be an easy recommend for the interested. As is, it does require a patient and forgiving player. Those that can find their way around this issue, though, will have a better time than the poor kid who got the Radar Rat.
I wish I could wholeheartedly suggest checking out G.I. Joe Operation Blackout, but I don’t think a solid roster of playable characters and an enjoyable story is enough to put up with the lackluster gameplay.
G.I. Joe is faithful to its source of inspiration, with a great cast of characters and locations, as well as an overall atmosphere worthy of the brand name. Everything else, though, breathes mediocrity, from the lacklustre AI to the overly simple level design. Shame, cause there's a lot of potential in this license.
At the end of the day, G. I. Joe Operation Breakout is hurt by a campaign that is neither fun nor a fitting tribute to a classic pop culture license. There’s multiplayer - local only - but I strongly doubt people are going to stick around to try it out. What it all comes down to in the end is that $40 is far too great a price to ask for this limping tribute to G. I. Joe.
You’ve played this before, 25 years ago on
PS1. The ideas are ancient, the
implementation poor, and when a
dubiously named hero is the only
fun you get from a shooter in
2020 it’s time to avoid. [Issue#182, p.160]
GI JOE Operation Blackout is an 8 hour long campaign game, plus multiplayer that tells a new story of Joe's vs Cobra. The developer said its made by fans for fans! If you are a GI JOE fan, you are going to really enjoy this game!
G.I Joe Operation Blackout
For the fans and noone else
Operation Blackout is a 5 hour long 3rd person shooter that tells the typical goodguy vs bad guy story, however this time you get to play on both sides.. there are 12 characters here that feel different enough with their own personal weapons and abilities from both the cobra and GI Joe side..
You can tell that operation blackout really is for fans of this series… its just that unfortunately its not really for anyone else, as GI Joe Operation Blackout just isn’t any fun to play…
To an extent.. don’t get me wrong there are 2 or 3 characters I had fun playing as, but mostly in the shorter missions.. as for the most part, every mission here feels like a grindy unfun slog, get to a location, take o nhordes of enemies until the time runs out or the game decides youre done… constantly recycled locations, the occasional dull vehicle combat sectoins, and the gunplay here is so unsatisfying and grindy feeling.. enemies feel like bullet sponges making it a blast in comparison when you get to play as a ninja character just slicing through them with swords, and enemies run around in circles like youre online playing call of duty.. youre dancing and shooting, it isn’t satisfying, its annoying…
And there isn’t much else to say about operation blackout, this game just isn’t fun, other than the fan service and variety of characters, theres nothing here to make It worth your time, that is unles again you are already a gi joe fan and youre itching for a gi joe game to play through..
Operation Blackout is very playable… just not for the most part any enjoyable
I give GI JOE Operation Blackout
a 5/10
I'm no going to waste my time giving a long-winded review. This game is straight up garbage. I grew up in the 80s with every G.I. Joe toy available at home and watched every episode of the cartoon.
