The game features 3 major game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and Survival mode. In Campaign Mode you take control of Tarethur, a mercenary tasked with finding a missing intelligence officer on Mars. Players will be engrossed in a story of conspiracy and insurgency consisting of 8 chapters and 18 stages ranging from deep underwater, out in space or confined in urban environments, all gorgeously realized with seamless animated cutscenes. In several stages, Human pilots can also exit their mechas, giving a greater ability to explore the environment and engage in further platform-based combat. For players that are looking for a greater challenge beyond the 8 hours single-player campaign, there is a Survival mode, “Simulation Battle”. Here players can handpick from the 40 mechas that appear in-game, as they fight to survive against waves of deadly enemies. Expand

Despite the occasional frame rate issues, Hardcore Mecha is a joy to play. Shooting and flying around the different levels feels incredibly smooth and responsive. Every enemy in the game presents its own individual threat, so players will need to be smart and responsive if they want to survive. Hardcore Mecha is an excellent option for any gamer who wants a challenging but rewarding experience.

Beautiful artwork, a rich variety of missions, and lots of fun in single-player or with friends – Hardcore Mecha is a package well worth strapping into. There are some technical hitches, but these are heavyweight goods. Get stomping!

Hardcore Mecha is a superb 2D side-scrolling adventure that marries some spectacularly OTT anime storytelling with explosively satisfying robot combat. There's a surprisingly meaty story here set across eighteen wonderfully varied levels with plenty of depth to RPG elements allowing you to customise your mech's attack and defence capabilities. An unlockable survival mode, online PvP, local multiplayer and mission rankings also add plenty of replayability to proceedings. It's a shame that this Switch port has some framerate issues that can see intense battles stutter, however, if RocketPunch can rectify this with a patch pretty sharpish you can feel free to add a point or two to the score below.

Drawing inspiration from several Japanese animation series that feature the aforementioned mechas, this is a 2D action game that is jam-packed with frantic action exploding all over the place. Occasionally a less-than-ideal performance when it comes to its frame rate can be an obstacle and the game's steep difficulty level won't welcome beginners with open arms but a healthy lifespan, absurdist plot moments and never-ending action, as well as a friendly price, make Hardcore Mecha a gem for those who like games with giant robotic vehicles.

Hardcore Mecha provides you with all the tools needed to scratch that mech action itch. While the main campaign lacks narrative and creativity, the core gameplay is solid, which finds its way into the boss encounters and multiplayer mode. There’s definitely room for quality patches that would improve the experience, but a few hours of fun are packed into this title for mecha fans.

Don't get me wrong the game is enjoyable but there are alot of frustrating issues. Firstly the lack of modes up front for single player. TheDon't get me wrong the game is enjoyable but there are alot of frustrating issues. Firstly the lack of modes up front for single player. The fact that you are stuck in the same mech the whole story mode, beside the first mission. Having survival mode tied to beating the game, which is a challenge in and of itself with the horrible crashes and frame rate issues. I had to do the final mission 8 times, not because I died but because the game would crash after the last boss. Then there the simulation mode.....oh wait there isn't one until they come out with another update. Imagine marketing a survival mode and it not working or being included in the release. Expand
