For anyone on the hunt for a new metroidvania to chew on, Islets hits the right notes. It’s built on a clear understanding of what makes the genre tick, with a couple of fresh ideas thrown into the mix—even if the potential in those ideas is left underexplored. It’s a relatively concise affair, for better or worse, but with humour and personality laced over a strong exploration-platformer foundation, it’s not a bad way to spend a few hours.

Game packs a ton of charm and humor with tight combat and a compelling score. There are 16 bosses and each really challenges the player on hard mode. The platforming is also engaging and fun. My biggest regret was that it didn’t offer more than one battle theme. Bosses were so exciting to fight, but playing to the same theme each time took away from them. Full Review »

The characters and world were so charming and I loved just wandering and moving around the map. Although I didn't care too much for the story, connecting the islands felt very meaningful and loved that addition to the game. Full Review »
