    With how barren the world of licensed baseball games have been on Nintendo systems, even if MLB The Show was a middling port with a token amount of modes, it would have been an oasis in the desert. Luckily, MLB The Show 22 on Switch is so much more than that. It has all of the modes of the 4K versions, including the wonderful March to October, Road to the Show, and Diamond Dynasty offerings. While the online and visual aspects falter at times, the good far outweighs the bad here, as MLB The Show 22 is one of the best sports games of its kind and the Switch version is an excellent way to play it portably and an acceptable way to play it on a television. Here’s hoping The Show is a perennial All-Star on Switch because I could get used to having an assortment of killer baseball games on Nintendo systems again.

    While no review can cover every aspect of a game, overall the first year on Switch is nothing short of a success for The Show. The most realistic baseball sim remains just that, all the while being portable. For any baseball fan, The Show is a must-buy. For any sports fan, The Show is a must-buy. With more content dropping throughout the year (and patches to improve the experience too), there's more than enough bang for your buck. [Issue #59 – May/June 2022, p. 65]

    Your impressions of MLB The Show 22 are going to vary depending on the platform you're on. For Xbox players, this remains a solid baseball game that players of all skill levels can enjoy thanks to numerous options and modes. With it being available on the Xbox Game Pass on day one, it's an easy reason to try it out. Those who lived and breathed The Show 21 will find the improvements to be minimal. For Switch fans, there are some rough parts that dull the game's impressiveness, but the presence of a sports simulation on a system that's starving for them should catch players' attention. The Switch is going to be a boon for those who like to play on the go, especially since The Show 15 was the last time it went portable on the Vita. Now if only the series could make its way to the PC ….

    The ultimate question is whether you should play MLB The Show 22 on Switch. Well, it depends. If it's your main or only platform and you're happy playing CPU and offline games, then yes, it's not bad and holds things together just enough for gameplay to be enjoyable. If you want an 'on-the-go' version to accompany a more powerful home console version, perhaps on Game Pass, then it's another yes. If you want to mainly play online in Diamond Dynasty? No, this isn't the way to go. MLB The Show 22 is admirably packed with content and features, but it's not entirely comfortably packed into the diminutive Switch. It lacks the fluidity and crispness found elsewhere, which is perhaps expected but doesn't change the fact. If you're happy with the compromises, though, then step up to the plate.

    Playing MLB The Show on a hybrid system is wonderful. The guys over at Sony did a great job on the Switch Port. I love Baseball and i LovePlaying MLB The Show on a hybrid system is wonderful.     This game is a few patches away from being a 10 on the Switch. There are frame rate issues only on cut scenes which isn’t really an issue, sometimes there’s weird issues like not being able to make a pitching change which can easily be fixed with a patch, and sometimes they call out the wrong name when a batter comes to the plate but other than that the game play is great. Graphics are really solid as long as you’re not an idiot and expecting Xbox series x graphics. If you are an idiot than prepare to be disappointed. I’m loving this game and it gives NBA 2K22 a run for its money as the best sports game on the Switch.… Expand

    while there are still some areas for improvement, this is miles better than the RBI baseball releases on the switch.
    I have played through a few hours of road to the show in both docked and handheld and the gaming experience plays well on both (actually seem to prefer it docked for use of the pro controller over joycons analog sticks, but both are satisfactory). It may be worth noting that there can be occasional stutters in FPS when on cutscenes but the gaming itself is fairly fluid and it is great to pick up and play. Overall, its fantastic to have MLB the show to play handheld on the go again after all those years on from the show on PS VITA.
    Im sure there may be some stability patches to come in time over the next year, but out of the box this is a very solid port if you can look past the obvious downgrades from the next gen versions.    … Expand

    With cross-play a prominent feature, I decided to pick this up on Switch to complement the Game Pass version playing on my Xbox Series X. What I wasn't prepared for is just how much different the Switch version is compared to even last gen console versions of the game. Stadiums are so pared down they look like minor league fields, the field of view from the batter's POV is nothing short of awful, and frame rate performance is inconsistent at best. Cross-play works as advertised but I wouldn't recommend online play with it as it's sluggish. It's great for taking your Road to the Show career on the road with you, however.

    MLB The Show 22 is a quintessential example of the sacrifices that must be made for a modern game to run on Switch's aging hardware. The ONLY reason to buy this is portability. If you can play on any other console, including last gen, I can't recommend this version.    … Expand

    This game does not look good. Totally understand the Switch has hardware limitations but boy did this look like a GameCube era game. GameplayThis game does not look good. My file got f'd because apparently reconnecting to the network while in RTTS mode completely breaks your file. My last game was a reds home game in dodger stadium and somehow they signed Jason Kendall and Juan Pierre in 2024. Last positive review was from June. I imagine everyone was happy the first month until their game glitched out.… Expand
