Ninjala is a well-crafted game and another fine example of free-to-play done right. You can make steady progress in the online game without spending real-world money and the only part of the game behind a paywall is the single player campaign — which is currently in its first phase. GungHo has done a great job early on at making a fun experience for players of all skill levels and still providing enough depth to sink your teeth into things when you want to. Ninjala isn’t just a great free-to-play game, it’s a great game period and one well-worth checking out on Switch.

It’s a little early to say if Ninjala will stand up with the likes of Fortnite or Splatoon, but it’s a creative, fun, and charming game that we should be keeping an eye on.

Ninjala is a surprisingly entertaining free-to-play game that doesn’t require players to pull out their wallets to have a little fun. The microtransactions are all cosmetic, free content is on its way to add even more depth, and the visual style just oozes with charm.

Ninjala has a ton of potential to become the next big multiplayer experience. While its single-player experience leaves a little to be desired, playing online with others is a ton of fun. There’s a nice balance found in the game’s premium items, but much of what it does right can be found in the free offerings. Hopefully, continued support by the developer will iron out any rough patches to make this a longlasting online experience for Switch owners.

Ninjala is a good-looking and impressively tactical free-to-play arena fighter. It's currently lacking in modes and maps, there are problems with how the lacklustre opening tutorial goes about onboarding new players and the rock-paper-scissors aspect of proceedings is sure to be controversial but, overall, the game is off to a pretty strong start. We can't wait to see where GungHo takes its cast of pint-sized bubblegum protagonists in the coming months.

While very far from perfect, Ninjala has a good foundation to build on, and create a truly great online experience.

Respectable free-to-play online brawler aiming for a younger audience – unfortunately the story mode is a costly premium commodity, while the basic map content is shallow.

The graphics and game performance is great and I love that they maintain the performance at 60 fps. At first everything is confusing, random things happen but once you'll get used to it, it's actually fun and engaging. I suggest to just prevent your character from dying and run once your HP runs out. The game has team battle and battle royale which makes for variety and the game is best played with voice chat together with friends. The aesthetics and skins are also great but of course you need to pay for those but that is for cosmetics purposes only. Overall the game is great for me and I glad we had this kind of game for free (not the story but story price is cheap) Expand

It's a fun game, but have it's issues. For example, the lack of modes and a slow pacing tier system progress.

As someone with 1600+ hours on Splatoon, I didn't really enjoy this game. First off, the combat feels clunky and button-mashy, but that's what I anticipated from the trailers. I've seen a lot of people say that it seems like people win based on luck more than skill because it's not clear what's going on (like what attack your opponent is doing) and it feels unbalanced. I don't see this game having a great competitive scene in the future just because the combat feels so imprecise when compared to something like Splatoon, and it doesn't seem like there's a high skill ceiling. Second, what is even the point of weapon skins if they go away after a game? Also why can't I join a friend's Battle Royale lobby online? There are just little things that irk me about this game, and I'm not a huge fan of the characters or busy UI so I'll probably pass on this. Definitely the kind of game that was fun to try with a friend as something to do for a few hours, but I don't really see myself coming back to this. Expand
