One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is not only one of the best One Piece games but possibly one of the best Musou games around.

Fighting countless hordes of bad guys never got old and proved to be a fantastic way to relieve stress. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is a game that’s worthy of being in anybody’s Switch collection. Step into the shoes of your favorite Straw Hat and enter the battlefield. Trust me — you won’t be disappointed.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is better than previous games, as it adds cool new features as well as more playable characters and options. As always, although this title can be enjoyed by any player, it is perfect for manganime fans who like the musou genre.

If you’ve played a Warriors game before, then you’ve basically played One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4. Thin story, okay graphics, and somewhat shallow but satisfying action gameplay are all par for the course here, not to mention a lion’s share of content to work through. If you’ve ever been curious what this sub-genre is all about, this is a great place to jump in with its easily approachable gameplay and that lovably goofy One Piece aesthetic. If you’re a long time fan, we’d encourage you to ask yourself how much you want more of the same and decide based on that. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is the furthest thing from reinventing the wheel, but it sure has its unique and addictive gameplay loop down to a science.

I hope the issues with the visuals I mentioned are fixed in the near future, but as of now, we are left with a port that indulged a bit too much in the Pop Pop Fruit. If you love One Piece then you’re going to have a great time with Pirate Warriors 4, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t flawless.

Pirate Warriors 4 is rich in content and characters from the One Piece animated series, which is bound to satisfy its many fans. It also has a clumsy way of presenting its plot, and has a rather shoddy campaign mode, as well as performance issues and less improvements than the its fellow Warriors games, but while that may not make this a compulsory purchase, it's also not an obstacle to enjoying the game's fun combat, which is indeed a satisfying experience.

One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 brings a lot of good additions to the franchise but it has far too many technical and camera issues to be a must play right now.

Overall, I find myself enjoying this title over PW3, and personally feel it's a step in the right direction.

Pirate Warriors 3's attempt to streamline the series and remove the majority of the story elements left the game feeling a little dull, and PW4 has done a good job succeeding where PW3 failed.

    |||Positives (IMO):
Aerial combos have been introduced to help diversify game-play against other flying characters and larger opponents. (1 Land Moveset and 1 Aerial Moveset as oppose to 2 Land Movesets like in PW3)
Giant enemies have been added, which fixes the issue of previously large characters being scaled incorrectly (They were too small) (Now you get to kick butt as a GIANT WHITEBEARD!!!)

More fleshed out Story Mode (Keeping 3 arcs for each half of the series may seem disappointing, but it's really not. Instead of each arc having 1-2 levels with all the story elements squeezed into them, each arc has 5-7 levels that focuses on multiple aspects of the arc.)

Improved Map Design (In PW3, every map was a bunch of squares and corridors, which eventually got pretty stale. In PW4 however, every map has a unique design that has no shape limitations.)

Improved Boss Fights (While PW1 still has the best boss fights imo, this game was a step in the right direction due to the inclusion of destructible environments and dynamic map changes.)

Music (Omg just take a listen! THE SOUNDTRACK IS GOD TIER!)

Choosing your own Specials - This was something that was exclusive to Luffy in Pirate Warriors 1, but NOW EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER GETS THE OPTION WHICH IS AMAZING! |||

    Negatives:

Costumes (Luffy gets his special costume for every arc, but most of the other characters unfortunately keep their initial outfits. This is a damn shame because there's a lot of awesome character outfits in each arc.)

No Quick Time Events (Idk who said these were annoying because damn were they fun in the first Pirate Warriors. PLEASE BRING THEM BACK SOMEDAY!)

Some PTS Strawhats Not Playable (I'm not exactly sure why certain characters with full movesets are unplayable, but they are. I think it's a bit silly to code in all of PTS Franky's combos and then only let the AI use them...)

    The Camera: It's just bad....

If you aren't familiar, you are a powerful character fighting hundreds of weaklings in a repetitive mission based structure. I find it much better than dynasty warriors. Fun, about 50 characters. The draw distance is pathetic and the graphics pretty bad. This game runs at 25-40 fps on a software level, and even does this in an emulator. More fun if you like one piece. Suffers from typical musuo flaws. It continually feeds you text during battle, at the bottom of the screen. There is no way whatsoever you can see this text while playing. Lastly, when you beat a boss you typically wind up in a cut scene where you have lost. Expand

First of all, the most important thing that we so lacked - the Ability to choose Techniques! We were allowed to create a perfect list of techniques for ourselves. In part 3, You might not have been happy with the styles of punches, but now you choose it yourself. Each character has become unique, having its own fighting style, and not just a model like all the others. You need to get used to each character, learn their strike techniques, pump them up, and choose the best fighting style for them! The graphics in the Nintendo Switch version have grown a lot! Now this is not a quick version, part 4 was released simultaneously with all other versions on consoles and it is clear that it does not differ in quality, But in the Nintendo version, this is more of a plus! Become more elaborate levels, and most importantly it the effect of razrushaemosti locations! This experiment I took as a good because it adds visual power heroes, you see what they are able to destroy the building, not just people ! Besides heroes now can jump on the building that too, it was impossible to do in 3rd part! It is also a noticeable plus in the treasury.
Now The Cons! The most important thing is the monotony of the plot and fights! Even the arches that were repeated many times could be shown from some other side, come up with something new that was not before. It is possible to add some separate mechanics that will only be in the story, something that would make the next repeat of the story interesting! But alas, the same thing again. Capture the base, defeat the bosses, collect rewards... the same thing. The second disadvantage is the promotion of the plot compared to the 3 parts. 3 part of ended on Battle with Dofi and after him in 4 parts of goes just 2 episodes on 6 parts of, given how many was passed until this. You could further reduce the previous stories, but more stretch to new but you did not do, but in vain! Result. In General, the game has acquired a decent number of innovations, which is not surprising for the new part. Rather, it would be strange if it remained unchanged. But the sad thing is that it remained the same passing project for 1 time, it did not do anything surprising for this genre. She didn't let us say "Wow, this has never happened in such genres". Even the "attack of the titans" in this regard was something unique, for the sake of mechanics you went into the game because in other games this was not the case. But in part 4 "One Piece", we again Mindlessly Click the buttons, watch the screensavers, and repeat again. P.S Thank you for the opportunity to choose music from the anime "openings" before the battles. I appreciated it. This is gave additional energy to play further.

For the coreThe Switch version is borderline unplayable with textures constantly disappearing and handheld mode looking dark and terrible. For the core game, it's a simplified PW3 with a made up story for Wano. Honestly the game felt like a step backwards and it's sad to see what this great franchise has become. Expand
