While the Nintendo Switch has seen its fair share of Metroidvania titles over its four-year run, Ori and the Will of the Wisps stands strong as one of its best. While the original was already a memorable adventure, Ori and the Will of the Wisps manages to make improvements whilst dazzling with a visual look that somehow manages to be even more eye-catching than before.
  2. Sep 28, 2020
Ori and the Will of the Wisps drastically improves upon its predecessor, with stellar gameplay, visuals and music. A true testament to what the Switch is capable of, this stunning sequel is not to be missed.
  3. Sep 28, 2020
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a highly polished Nintendo Switch port of a game that should already be considered as one of the best modern metroidvanias. Running at a smooth 60fps both docked and in handheld, this is a forest adventure well worth exploring.
  4. Sep 23, 2020
Ori and the Will of the Wisps arrives on the Switch in exceptional form. Though there have been a few nips and tucks here and there in order to squeeze it into a considerably more modest form factor, it still showcases Moon Studio’s incredible vision from the moment it starts to the tear-jerking finale.
  5. Sep 22, 2020
Ori and the Will of the Wisps improves upon its predecessor in every way, and is perhaps the most accomplished Switch port so far. Completely and utterly essential.

As a whole, Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a beautiful, tragic, and complex story told on a stunning landscape and full of unique and loveable characters that will make you so many emotions. Its gameplay is incredibly satisfactory with challenging, creative puzzles, hidden rooms, and difficult-enough enemies. I would, and already have, recommend this game to anyone and everyone.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a gorgeous game with fast-paced action, an enormous, beautiful world to explore and a solemn story crafted very well.

Let’s not forget that all of this great gameplay, all these beautiful visuals and music have been packed into the diminutive platform of the Nintendo Switch. It’s an amazing achievement, and the developers deserve credit for delivering a faithful rendering of this full game in handheld mode. In fact, in some ways, you even get a better version than was originally released on the Xbox One in March, because it’s had its lagging and other bugs ironed out. Sure, the visuals are not quite as crisp (especially in docked mode), but you’d have to be really looking to notice, or really care. No, this huge little game is a must-play on the Switch, and it is in every way a worthy successor to an iconic game classic.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps improves on the first game. It improves in everything from its predecessor although it loses its surprise effect, but that does not matter when we are playing one of the best video games of this decade. A true visual and playable delight that no fan of the genre should miss.

There are few games that genuinely make me feel quite as happy as Ori and the Will of the Wisps. The combination of a visually stunning world and a gameplay loop that rewards customization and exploration really make this game feel like no other. Simply put, this is not a quick rehash of Ori and the Blind Forest. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a refined masterpiece that feels like a metroidvania that has reached its pure potential.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps improves upon the already great foundation set out by Ori and the Blind Forest. Its map is brimming with details and secrets to discover while new weapons and movement abilities create real depth to both combat and platforming. Ori’s journey through Niwen is filled with emotional ups and downs that all feel earned and act as the perfect payoff for fans of the series. The injection of RPG elements like upgrades, side quests, and even a hub area to get attached to all anchor you to this gorgeously realized world, and the fantastic conversion to Switch means that you won’t be missing out on a thing. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is one of the best 2D platformers on Switch and a game that shouldn’t be missed.

Another world - rich in content - in the palm of your hand. Or is a game that raises the bar for the genre. Absolutely enchanting. [Issue #2, p.64]

It's one of the best games of 2020, on a console that let's me play it everywhere. Sure, it doesn't look as pretty but it does look pretty and plays in silky smooth 60 FPS. It's an amazing port and Switch owners should really buy it.

I will say that the best way to play this would still be on a PC or Xbox One, as you'll get a better graphical and technical performance. But, most of us Switch owners know that there's usually some kind of price to pay for the opportunity to take games wherever we want on a handheld system. In this case, very little was sacrificed. If you were waiting for this port to happen, then you can whip that wallet out and make this purchase without fear, as Ori And The Will Of The Wisps is a great new addition to the Switch's ever-growing digital library.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps manages to be more than just a plain old sequel. It changes just enough and introduces great new mechanics and characters to truly feel like a completely separate game while being unmistakably Ori at the core. More importantly, it runs perfectly well on the Switch with only minor visual adjustments. Will of the Wisps stands as tall as its predecessor as a beautiful action-platformer that everyone should try.

If you’ve played Ori and the Blind Forest and found it enjoyable, you really need to play Ori and the Will of the Wisps. And if you haven’t yet played either, seriously consider picking both up. This sequel is the better of the two, but they’re both brilliant games that are particularly enjoyable on Switch thanks to its portability. Though a word of warning: if you’re an emotional person, they’ll probably make you cry. But it’s testament to just how well put together these games are that they can instil such feelings.

The pleasure of the game is therefore intact and we can now enjoy, wherever we are, one of the best Metroidvanias of recent years.
  20. Sep 25, 2020
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is one of the best Metroivanias in recent memory, and its Switch port is simply outstanding. With a buttery smooth framerate, and an aesthetic as gorgeous as ever, it's a title that might even warrant a double dip.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is not just a great sequel; in many ways, it outdoes its predecessor. The addition of more customization options, a greater focus on combat and a better-developed story – all in a game that's running at 60 frames per second – allows the sequel to comprehensively outshine the original. However, this does come at a cost of stability, as several crashes and soft-locks were extremely demotivating. Overall though, Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a must-buy for anyone even the slightest bit interested, and we're confident that the stability problems can be patched in the future. This is a supremely enjoyable platform adventure which everyone should experience.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is one of the best ports we've ever gazed upon.
  23. Sep 22, 2020
Ori and the Will of the Wisps delivers a stunning metroidvania experience even on Nintendo Switch, thanks to a terrific gameplay and some gorgeous graphics with lower visual richness but outstanding performances.

It's incredible how moving this game is. The boss fights in particular, both with the people you face and how they are handled, are extraordinary.
