Override Mech City Brawl asks a lot out of potential customers for a much more flawed game. Even if it were a budget title, the framerate valleys, constricting scale, limited customization options, and a completely dead online presence would make it tough to recommend. In its current state, you’d do best to walk past the smoldering pile.

Override: Mech City Brawl is a solid port for Nintendo Switch. Any graphical downgrade isn’t noticeable in handheld mode, and the action of the game distracts from anything that would stand out. Single-player and local multiplayer can provide hours of fun, but the online multiplayer lets the game down massively. The choice not to implement cross-play harms its long-term appeal, rendering what should enjoyable game modes almost entirely irrelevant. This is still a neat little title, but if you're keen to take your skills online, you might want to look elsewhere for your kicks.

Fans of mechas and science fiction will enjoy Override for Nintendo Switch. However, it has issues in the gameplay, it is difficult to play online and its visual section is not incredibly prominent, but it is fun, and that is what matters.

If you’re a Switch owner, there are better mech games, and there are better fighting games. Override is a game best overlooked.

A fun mech fighting game, with really enjoyable slower paced combat. Unfortunately Override Mech City Brawl is marred by framerate issues, and there's nobody online to play against.

For as much as I wanted to enjoy my time with Override: Mech City Brawl there was just never any escaping its issues. The impressive collection of cosmetic items hints at a game with much more character than the one we got but in almost every other way I was let down. The genre could use a game which pays this much attention to its combat systems but performance issues and a general lack of polish prevent Override: Mech City Brawl from being that game.

With plenty of characters, customization options and simple controls, the game is easy to get into but alas, the feeling of repetitiveness settles in too quickly and this Nintendo Switch conversion does not do a brilliant job when it comes to handheld experiences. Furthermore, its online component is very sparsely populated due to the lack of cross-platform functionalities and the price/quality relation tends to fall towards the negative side.
