It’s impossible to not be caught up in Planet Alpha’s charms. The product of one man and a small indie team from Denmark, it’s a game that runs remarkably smoothly considering the detail of its environments and the vibrancy of its art style. The platforming won’t blow you away - especially if you’ve become trained in the twitch arts of Hollow Knight and the like - but with some brilliant puzzles, a rewarding balance between endangered stealth and peaceful exploration and some of the most intense set-pieces we’ve ever played on Switch, Freedom Planet has secured a place as one of 2018’s most important indie releases.

Planet Alpha is a truly special title. It’s gorgeous to look at, the puzzles are clever, and the challenges will give gamers a strong sense of reward. While the lack of direction and visibility difficulties will grate on the nerves of some gamers, it’s a truly an impressive experience on Switch. Many developers try to replicate the old school charm of titles like Metroid, but few manage to capture that charm while also making something that feels unique. Planet Alpha is very much an experience all its own, and gamers would be hard pressed to find a more unique and vibrant platformer on eShop.

Planet Alpha reminds us of Limbo and Inside. The gameplay is similar if you think how these games use platform elements and puzzles to drop you in a world without giving you any context. Still it’s a great game with lots of details and a great atmosphere.

While there are moments of frustration in its platforming, and the puzzles are relatively unsophisticated, the locations of Planet Alpha will most certainly stick with you. It doesn't matter why you're there, or what it is you're looking for. There's great pleasure in just existing on this planet, in navigating its harsh terrain and admiring its vistas, and the sheer beauty of it all makes the game's shortcomings easy to bear.

Planet Alpha is a beautiful and fun fast-paced puzzle platformer. It was fun working my way across the lush yet dangerous world. There’s a few annoying bits and pieces, but the good far outweighs those moments. If games of this genre usually feel a bit short, then the good news is that Planet Alpha lasts over 5 hours. If you’re into side-scrolling platformers with puzzles added in you should check it out.

Beautiful, serene, and joyous, Planet Alpha is a 2D puzzle-platformer that's optimistic outlook on space travel won't fail to keep pushing you forward.

The game looks absolutely gorgeous and the variety of backdrops and fauna only adds to its charms. Planet Alpha could do more when it comes to the game's length and difficulty level, as it feels like the experience can end rather quickly but its accessible gameplay will easily win fans of different tastes and experiences.

I often stopped and admired the art. There are many moments in the game when you seamlessly enter a perfectly composed scene with carefully choreographed surroundings performing like an animated movie. The game-play consists mainly of easy platforming, and not very difficult puzzles. The story in this game is intentionally vague, and it leaves enough room for the players imagination. The protagonist is found in an alien environment, and left with only one way to go. A story unfolds while the player progresses, but is never forced on the player and never stops the immersion. Planet Alpha is best compared to Éric Chahi's Another World than to more story heavy games like Inside. Expand

I like the science fiction theme, the visuals are good and the planet itself looks very interesting and colorful, specially at night where everything has a neon light glow. kinda like Avatar. gameplay is ok. not the best of the genere, not the worst. I would recommend it on sale if you enjoy this kind of games. Expand

I bought it for 2$ on ehsop because it was on sale, I knew it wasn't a great game but I'm a fan of platform games.

I didn't finish it because there are some points in the game where you just don't know what to do for several reasons :

-Gameplay is clunky, unprecise and somewhat random (which is unacceptable for a platform game)
-They favored a ''immersive'' world, putting stuff on different plans on the screen (first front, and background), but the first front keeps getting in your way and interfere with what you are seeing on screen, and it sometimes happen during crucial moments.
-The story is blend, they honestly could have hire a writer to just put a small synopsis in the game so it would feel less like another walking simulator.

Yes, the graphics and universe is astounding. But I am PLAYING (lol) a videogame, not a movie. It would be cool that people that make game (even if I know it is a lot of work and extremely hard) would prioritize more the ''gaming'' aspect than the video one.

Because what's the point of playing a beautiful game if the story is blend, the gameplay clunky and the challenge somewhat unfair/unfun (because of the bad controls) ? With better choices, this game could have been great and it's always sad to see a game being wasted potential, since you put so much effort, time and money into it. :)

The visuals in the traillers looks amazing, but when I played it on Swicht, something doenst works, the visuals in handheld mode, looks too pixelated, the gameplay is the sadest thing, I think it is the worst gameplay that I ever played in my life, everything happens in slowmotion. The games looks unfinished, lot of of bugs and troubles, and its not fun run left to right while try to avoid robot lasers. The great art and atmosphere, could be much more cool in a metroidvania like, with tight controls and good level design. Unfortunatelly, I try with all my life to love this game, but it is impossible for me. This game is not for me, unfortunately. I hope that in the next PLANET ALPHA, the developers care more about gameplay. More tight and responsive controls, will make this game good as CELESTE and HOLLOW NIGHT
