Sep 5, 2018It’s impossible to not be caught up in Planet Alpha’s charms. The product of one man and a small indie team from Denmark, it’s a game that runs remarkably smoothly considering the detail of its environments and the vibrancy of its art style. The platforming won’t blow you away - especially if you’ve become trained in the twitch arts of Hollow Knight and the like - but with some brilliant puzzles, a rewarding balance between endangered stealth and peaceful exploration and some of the most intense set-pieces we’ve ever played on Switch, Freedom Planet has secured a place as one of 2018’s most important indie releases.

Oct 25, 2018Planet Alpha is a truly special title. It’s gorgeous to look at, the puzzles are clever, and the challenges will give gamers a strong sense of reward. While the lack of direction and visibility difficulties will grate on the nerves of some gamers, it’s a truly an impressive experience on Switch. Many developers try to replicate the old school charm of titles like Metroid, but few manage to capture that charm while also making something that feels unique. Planet Alpha is very much an experience all its own, and gamers would be hard pressed to find a more unique and vibrant platformer on eShop.

Oct 1, 2018Planet Alpha reminds us of Limbo and Inside. The gameplay is similar if you think how these games use platform elements and puzzles to drop you in a world without giving you any context. Still it’s a great game with lots of details and a great atmosphere.

Sep 4, 2018While there are moments of frustration in its platforming, and the puzzles are relatively unsophisticated, the locations of Planet Alpha will most certainly stick with you. It doesn't matter why you're there, or what it is you're looking for. There's great pleasure in just existing on this planet, in navigating its harsh terrain and admiring its vistas, and the sheer beauty of it all makes the game's shortcomings easy to bear.

Sep 4, 2018Planet Alpha is a beautiful and fun fast-paced puzzle platformer. It was fun working my way across the lush yet dangerous world. There’s a few annoying bits and pieces, but the good far outweighs those moments. If games of this genre usually feel a bit short, then the good news is that Planet Alpha lasts over 5 hours. If you’re into side-scrolling platformers with puzzles added in you should check it out.

Sep 23, 2018Beautiful, serene, and joyous, Planet Alpha is a 2D puzzle-platformer that's optimistic outlook on space travel won't fail to keep pushing you forward.
-
Sep 23, 2018The game looks absolutely gorgeous and the variety of backdrops and fauna only adds to its charms. Planet Alpha could do more when it comes to the game's length and difficulty level, as it feels like the experience can end rather quickly but its accessible gameplay will easily win fans of different tastes and experiences.
