Poison Control is a very unique game, and if you get past its issues this playfully pink adventure has a lot to offer.

Poison Control could have been better. The controls weren’t polished enough, and the levels—despite boasting some amazing aesthetics—were fairly same-y. But that doesn’t mean that Poison Control is a bad game. In fact, I really liked it—and I think that a lot of pre-existing NIS fans will, too. If you’re looking for games based on mechanical execution alone, Poison Control might not be your thing. If you want something with a lot of heart, however, and don’t mind the imperfections, then I would absolutely suggest diving headfirst into this little slice of Hell.

A good, but not great, new IP, Poison Control skillfully harnesses NIS’s abilities to present a visually-striking, musically-engaging world with unique gameplay concepts. The biggest issue is the gameplay itself doesn’t feel as polished as it should be. The third-person shooter gameplay is functional, but the execution leaves something to be desired. Even so, it’s enjoyable enough to make quick work of each stage and uncover the storylines behind each. The unique factor wears off after a while, but as long as you don’t expect a Call of Duty-style shooter, you’ll be able to enjoy what Poison Control has to offer.

Poison Control has some unique gameplay mechanics that I enjoyed but the controls, technical issues, and lack of polish during later stages hold it back from being an easy recommendation even to fans of NIS' other games.

I had really high hopes for Poison Control, but it's definitely a weird experience for your opinion of a game to plummet as you play. The game mechanics are really fun and interesting, and in most dialogue cases, the writing is really entertaining. But the mishandling of assault put a really bad taste in my mouth, and on top of that, combat became really repetitive. The limited scope of enemy types and recycled weapons led to a less than stellar overall experience.

Poison Control feels like the sort of game where lots of different elements are tossed together in a way that hopefully comes together and makes sense. Some parts are fine. Eliminating poison can make you think, though it can sometimes get to be a bit of a chore. I liked the Heart-to-Hearts with Poisonette a lot, as it let me see how the duo would grow. The shooting is sort of there. It wasn’t an attraction or anything revolutionary, but I suppose I liked seeing what sorts of equipment I’d get from new Belles. It’s an interesting idea, but some elements are executed better than others.

Poison Control's story is cliché-filled but fun, and the tongue-in-cheek dialogue carries the game far further than its gameplay could manage alone. The writing can only make up for shallow game mechanics to a point, though, and ultimately shallow gameplay is what lets this game down. Visual novel fans will likely find more to enjoy here, but there's simply not enough gameplay depth or variety for fans of shooters.

This delightful little game -If Poison Control has taught me anything, it is that sometimes the professional viewers just get it dead wrong. This delightful little game - once you master the mechanics (and be patient, as that may take a few levels of hell to do) - is an absolute treat. The concept is that you are running around hell as a main character and having a small poison devouring demon woman borrow your body to remove poisonous mires. It's a whacky mix of a third person shooter, a dungeon crawler, and I don't even know how to describe what your poison demon does. Who knew that hell was this cute and pink, and with a radio station, nonetheless? The game does get a bit creepier as it goes on, but is a light, fun, play that's a great way to pass the time. I'm surprised it didn't score higher. If you like passive aggressive girls competing to have the most ridiculously bouncy, large breasts and enjoy a unique experience that isn't too challenging, check this game out and stick with it through the first three levels. I was so frustrated when I died on level 3 about 15 times, but I watched a YouTube playthrough and then just "got" how to play this game, and after that it was a pure joy of fun with a fair bit of comedy and a lighthearted gameplay. Hell is worth the price of admission. Expand

The story behind each Belle is unique and the mystery that surrounds both you and Poisonette is engaging. The leveling systems are simple enough to pick up on and the exploration aspects of the game and the weapon and equipment management are fairly deep. I highly recommend this game for people that enjoy visual novels but want a bit more combat and RPG aspects in their game. Expand
