Overall Riptide GP Renegade provides a nice experience on the Switch. The XP and BP upgrade system provides a great amount of replayability, while the online and local split screen multiplayer means you can always play with other people whenever and wherever. Be warned though - the choppy frame rate in handheld mode can be a damper on the overall fluid dynamic, so you may want to plan on playing this docked. Otherwise, if you're a fan of Wave Race or racing games in general Riptide GP Renegade would be a great addition to your Switch library.

It runs and plays remarkably in all modes and retains its great gameplay mechanics and innovations from other versions and is, at time of writing and in the current absence of Wave Race on the Switch, one of the best racing games on the machine that exceeds what one could expect from a game at that price.

Overall, Riptide GP: Renegade is a fun and delightful experience for any racing fans, but will especially hook those – like me – that grew up with Jet Moto. Although the story appears thin and doesn’t do enough to explore the settings of the world around you, the wide range of gameplay options and modes like online multiplayer will provide ample distraction to the player.

Riptide GP: Renegade boasts many of the qualities that you would hope for from a racing game; a rewarding career mode, a solid racing experience, and – delightfully – a rather different element in the way that the waves throw you around a little. There are some little niggles and difficulty spikes that keep it from sitting alongside the best of the genre, and there isn’t quite enough fun in the racing alone for multiplayer to be particularly exciting, but if you’re after a slightly different racing game to dip in and out of on the fly, this wouldn’t be a bad choice, especially for the asking price.

Riptide GP: Renegade is a throwback to racers of the past but performs just like a video game should today. What accounts for a story is just awful, but the careers mode itself provides a well-paced water-based thrill ride.

Interesting and fun, Riptide GP: Renegade is a show of simplicity well cooked that adapts the game to the hybrid console with all its racing possibilities, multiplayer and also a new control system.

If it looks like something you'd enjoy, you probably will!

I love racing games and like so many fans of jetski games, so very much wanted something for the switch. I really didn’t like the mobile version of this game, and it was only my craving for a jetski game that let me to try this. I didn’t expect much, having already decided the mobile version just didn’t do it for me, so it was a huge WOW to find that this switch version really hit that sweet spot beautifully!! Even if you are NOT a fan of jetski games but enjoy racers, this is going to be a must buy.

Given this game is based on a mobile port, I was seriously tempted to give it a 10, just because the water and waves feel so incredibly good!

Plus the game is tiny. Less than a gig. It’s just SO worth buying, looks like it runs at a silky smooth 60fps, has tonnes of unlocks and because it feels so good in handling, it’ll keep me happily playing for a long time yet! Highly recommended.

I bought it for a fiver on the e-shop, and damn did I underpay! This is the best Jetski game I've ever played. The story is a bit strange, but funny and the gameplay is actually really sound. The wateranimation is pretty amazing for a budget-title as well. If you can get it for anything under 20£, get it, it's 100% worth it! When I first booted it up, I played 4 hours straight without even realising!

    Cons:
Occasionally (very rare) drops a frame in handheld.
    General graphics are Ps3-era

    Pros:
    Fun story
    Great gameplay
    Tricks are fun
    Great physics
    Cheap

Wish there were more jetski games for the switch, this is decent fun! I’ve had it a few months, and still find the water feel gives me the racing rush I enjoy. I’d pay full price for a waverace game, please Nintendo! I consider myself an accomplished and skilled racer and really enjoyed this game (still not finished) with its 100 or so races, plus re-races. It’s worth getting for the good low price. Expand

I've been stuck on a boss battle 18 races now. The police are like gnats, just annoying and ruin what would be a fun racing experience. They don't go after your competitors and your competitors' bikes defy gravity and wave effects way better than you. Every time you lose they suggest upgrading my bike but my bikes already maxed. There's plenty of variety and gameplay where no levels have to be so f*ing frustrating and difficult. I'm about halfway and angrily stuck due to an unfair A.I. I'm a casual gamer that loves racing games and this one was exciting at first but now terribly unfair. It would be nice if the cops could be disabled and it be just pure racing. Maybe I could beat them. Expand
