A fun-filled adventure that not only features one of the best turn-based combat systems I've experienced for some time, but also a narrative that old and new fans alike can appreciate.

Even if you don’t want anything to do with League, we would highly recommend that you give Ruined King a shot; this is a spectacular JRPG that consistently demonstrates mastery of all the ingredients needed to make a great entry in the genre. The core campaign is just long enough to feel satisfying, there are dizzying amounts of character customization, and the combat system is one of the finest we’ve encountered in a turn-based RPG in a long time. If you’re a fan of RPGs, you’d be doing yourself a great disservice to pass on Ruined King. Even if you’re a newcomer to the genre we’d still absolutely encourage you to give this a punt; it's an excellent effort.

Ruined King is both a wonderful glimpse into League of Legends' most nefarious region and an indication that Riot's universe really can open up in new and interesting ways. While we were cynical when it first launched, it's clear Riot Forge, and Airship Syndicate, have plenty more stories to tell in Runeterra – and we can't wait to experience them.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story isn't reinventing the wheel, that's for sure. However, its solid game systems make it quite a recommendable RPG, especially for LoL fans. They will be able to appreciate the reinterpretation of their favorite universe by Airship Syndicate and Joe Madureira. And while we regret a somewhat conventional writing that sometimes lacks subtlety, we appreciate being able to immerse ourselves in the alleys of Bilgewater and the Dark Isles in the company of charismatic champions.

It is true that the rhythm and the numerous bugs and crashes are present in the game. But those who give Ruined King the opportunity it deserves will be able to enjoy a very interesting title. We recommend it both for those who do not know the LoL universe, and fans who want to know more about it from a unique perspective.

Ruined King doesn't deliver on the Nintendo Switch everything it promises. The story is interesting but it's very difficult to ignore the gameplay and performance issues to actually insist upon seeing the game through to the end. It's worth it to those who want to know more about Runeterra though.

In the end, a terrific battle system and great art direction just aren’t enough to save Ruined King: A League of Legends Story from its lackluster narrative, clunky UI, and a wide spectrum of bizarre technical issues on Nintendo Switch. Hardcore League of Legends fans and hardcore RPG mechanics enthusiasts will still enjoy the game, but everyone else is better off playing something else this holiday season.

The gameplay is exquisitely crafted up and honestly as a veteran that has been playing this franchise since 2012, I can't stress just how amazingly fresh this new game

LoadingI have played about 2-3h so far on the switch, and the game itself seems great, but the switch version was clearly an afterthought. Loading screens are long and frequent, and even after those end, you notice textures poping in, and things like the map still remain unavailable for a noticeable long time after you are given back control of your character. I haven't looked into it yet, but if the PC version improves on this, I will probably wait for a sale and get it on steam or something.
On a different note, some UI elements feel clunky. The most noticeable is the combat bottom bar, for example, that can get easily crowded with very small icons and become impossible to understand, both on docked and handheld modes.
Overall, it seems like a great game, and playing with LoL characters in a different setting feels like a one-of-a-kind experience. The story so far is captivating, and the overall mechanics feel well built. If you can play it on anything other than the Switch, I suspect you will have a much better experience, if anything just because the loading times might improve. If not, it's still a game worth picking up, but be ready to wait, and wait, and wait some more.... :/

Not only did it do a poor job of introducing me to it's different lanes it didn't tell me how to heal my party and the load screens were to often and lasted to long for I don't know what reasons. It seemed complicated for the hell of being complicated and it destroyed the game for me. Utterly confusing. This game would have done better as a typical turned based with no frills and less muck.
