I found playing through a modern imagining of this classic to be almost perfect. While it doesn’t reinvent the franchise or break convention, it never acts like it wants to. There’s something comforting about returning to a world like this: to know its every corner, to recognize its colorful cast, to feel truly lost in the experience.
  2. Sep 23, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is everything a remake should be. It retains the nostalgia of the original game while celebrating it in an entirely new way. The map is small but dense, filled with side quests, interesting character designs, and a surprising moral dilemma. This charming, toy-like world is the perfect way to experience Koholint Island, regardless of it’s your first visit or your 50th time washing ashore.

Anyone who has never played Link's Awakening before should absolutely play Link's Awakening. It's a damning reflection on the entire industry, in terms of the respect that it shows for the artistry of video games, that a remake, rather than a re-release, was ever even contemplated as the way to give people renewed access to this classic.
  4. Sep 19, 2019
An excellent remake of an already faultless Zelda game. If you never played the Game Boy original, then you absolutely need to pick this up. If, like me, you grew up playing this game, then there is a lot of new content to keep you busy. While Breath of the Wild was the game many bought their Switch for, Link’s Awakening has only reinforced that decision for me. So buckle up and let a friendly owl show you what Koholint Island has to offer.
  5. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening remake for the Switch improves most of the flaws from the original game while maintaining (or enhancing) everything that makes Link's Game Boy adventure a classic. Its shiny new coat of paint suits it well, even if slowdown issues pop up from time to time. A few hours of play is all it takes to remind you why Zelda fans love Link's Awakening so very much.
  6. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is the quintessential 2D Zelda experience. The gameplay never feels repetitive, and solving each dungeon or beating each mini-boss is equally as satisfying as the first. The audio is crisp and matches perfectly to the gorgeous visuals that players will be treated to throughout their time on Koholint Island. It pays homage to the original in the greatest of ways, by introducing an entirely new generation of players to one of the best Zelda experiences out there. It is a must-have for any Zelda fan, and so should take its place as a console seller for the Nintendo Switch.
  7. Sep 19, 2019
This goes beyond nostalgia. Link's Awakening is a timeless masterpiece, and because of the beautiful, honorable way Nintendo modernized the game, this remake is the best way to experience this timeless masterpiece.

I can only hope that its sales success will lead to a patch that fixes the framerate dips, and more importantly, the development of more Zelda games in this style. [Issue #43 – November/December 2019, p. 10SH]
  9. Sep 23, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a masterpiece in remaking the original classic game. It perfectly brings back the old school gameplay of the 90s with modern tech. Even if you had played the original game a long time ago, this one will shock you again.
  10. Sep 19, 2019
An epic return of one of the most important video games of all time. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a classic that everyone should play.
  11. Sep 19, 2019
Link’s Awakening is still, 26 years after its debut, an outstanding game. With brand new graphics, along all the elements that made the original one of the best games ever, this classic game lands on Nintedo Switch to remind us why we love The Legend of Zelda series.
  12. Sep 19, 2019
Link’s Awakening has always been a super-solid entry in the Zelda series, and it easily lives up to today’s standards. It’s also a love letter to some of Nintendo’s greatest in its purest form. To top it all off, it has an alluring soundtrack with familiar tunes — including Marin’s soothing voice — that instantly warm your heart.
  13. Sep 19, 2019
Link's Awakening does not expand the old formula, yet introduce the original into the modern era. It's a charming and simple Zelda experience we all need sometimes. You will not find anything new here, but if you are in a search for that old, nostalgic feeling of simple and sheer gaming joy - look no further. This is a Zelda title you need to play.
  14. Sep 19, 2019
When I go to give Link's Awakening to someone else, would I recommend this version? Is this the game I want my kids to play? And yes. It is. Absolutely.
  15. Sep 19, 2019
Updating the look but never losing the feel of the original, Link’s Awakening is a masterclass in remaking a classic.
  16. Sep 19, 2019
Link's Awakening is back in all it's timeless glory. The main game hasn't aged a day and doesn't need any new gameplay experiences to convince anyone. It does profit from its quality of life changes, beautiful artstyle and memorable soundtrack.
  17. Sep 23, 2019
A clever reimagining of a classic title, that preserves what we loved in the original Gameboy game, but in a way that’s easier to appreciate for a modern player.
  18. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch is a remake that will delight both those who played the original version and those fans who are looking for a new adventure. It stands out in its story, its playability, its design and its soundtrack.
  19. Sep 19, 2019
Link’s Awakening hasn’t aged a bit. It’s fantastic design with now beautiful graphics make it as enjoyable as when it came out. No matter if you played it a million times or if you hadn’t heard about it before, it’s an adventure you cannot miss.
  20. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is the definitive edition of a classic: a renewal and improvement in every way, but always respectful with the source material, that manages to evoke the same feelings we felt 26 years ago.
  21. Nov 12, 2019
Whether you’re someone who played Link’s Awakening before or someone who never has, this is one of the best entries in the series and should be played by all. Don’t sleep on this one.
  22. Oct 2, 2019
An incredible remake of one of the greatest adventures Nintendo has ever released, Link's Awakening is a must-have for anyone who owns a Switch.
  23. Sep 27, 2019
Whether you know Links Awakening like the back of your hand or have never played then you will be in for a treat. This was a great game back in the day and still is! The only thing holding it back are the distracting framerate problems and even being less sensitive to these things it was noticeable to me. I don’t think it’s game breaking but might be for some. For anyone else they will find an adventure once lost to time and now back in all it’s glory!
  24. Oct 14, 2019
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening perfectly evokes the original game's presentation on the Game Boy, while bringing the visuals up to date using ingenious toy-like character and diorama world designs. With a top-notch presentation and charming gameplay, Link's Awakening is the living proof that any good game, no matter how old it is, can be revived and brought to new audiences.
  25. Oct 12, 2019
Link’s Awakening is happy to be history, and it defies you not to be, as well.
  26. Oct 8, 2019
It’s no surprise that brand new visuals and sound make the alluring world and ephemeral story of Link’s Awakening all the more endearing, but I did not expect to fall in love with its 26-year-old game design all over again.
  27. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is one of the cutest and most unforgettable experiences you can ever had on a Nintendo Switch. The game is almost carbon copy of the original one but has that little touches to improve the experience. That is the kind of remake we always want to see.
  28. 90
The Legend of Zelda series is known for its quality across both consoles and handhelds, with the latter often standing out for their uniqueness within the franchise as a whole. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was a shining example of that on the Game Boy and once again proves why it deserves to be talked about among the best in the series with its remake on the Nintendo Switch.
  29. Oct 1, 2019
Despite its modest handheld origins, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a true console experience. With updated aesthetics and superior controls (especially for inventory), it’s shaping up to carry on the Game Boy legacy and be both a critical and commercial hit. An innovative, generally light-hearted installment that’s full of surprises, Zelda enthusiasts won’t want to overlook this game. Link’s Awakening is also an ideal entry for those who aren’t Zelda fans.
  30. Oct 1, 2019
Nintendo launched the Switch with an excellent Zelda game, and two and a half years later does it again with another incredible Zelda game. It has its shortcomings (specifically in the performance department) but it still shines as a great remake of the OG mobile Zelda.
  31. Sep 30, 2019
Link's Awakening is a remarkable remake of one of the more overlooked titles in the Legend of Zelda franchise.
  32. Sep 26, 2019
While it isn’t technically a new game, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening looks and feels as fresh and inviting as any new game released on the Switch. It preserves all the strange, playful fun of the original while utterly transforming it visually and mechanically, and preserves everything that made Link’s Awakening a classic. Whether you’re playing it for the first time or revisiting a longtime favorite, you won’t be disappointed.
  33. Sep 26, 2019
Most importantly, Nintendo didn't overly meddle with the original game. The endearing characters, the challenging dungeons, the humor, the puzzles, and the heart-wrenching twist? Those have been there all along, present since 1993. But with the 2019 reimagining of Link's Awakening, Nintendo simply provided a new way to appreciate an all-time great adventure.
  34. Sep 25, 2019
The best remake of Link’s Awakening that we could hope for.
  35. Sep 20, 2019
For the new generation who never even held a Game Boy (or picked it up in Virtual Console), this is a chance to experience this gaming masterpiece in its best form to date.
  36. Sep 20, 2019
Link’s Awakening is as charming today as it was 26 years ago. This remake addresses many of the original’s shortcomings, but at the same time, the original still does a few things better. The new visual style is gorgeous, but the frequency of the performance issues leaves room for improvement. Despite this setback, precious few Zelda games have the emotional payoff or the narrative richness of Link’s Awakening. This is still an unbelievable adventure and an absolute must-play.
  37. 90
Striking a careful balance between updating an old classic for 2019 and maintaining what made the original so special, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a remarkable and unmissable game despite a few small stumbles. The artistry of the original is so strong, and the update so measured, that both devoted fans and entirely new players are bound to be delighted.
  38. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on Switch reasserts the original's position as one of the richest, strangest and most affecting games in the series.
  39. Sep 19, 2019
The dream come true in an exemplary remake of the 1993's classic videogame for Game Boy. It recalls all that veteran players knew about the game, while it gives to new players the possibility of guessing why it was one of the best Zelda games ever made.
  40. Sep 19, 2019
Link’s Awakening remade and rebuilt for the Nintendo Switch is downright delightful. A memorable return to the stunning Koholint Island, and for newcomers to experience a journey they’ll savour for years to come. The Switch just got its second must-play Zelda.
  41. Sep 19, 2019
A near-perfect remake. Its wonderful redone art style suits the quirky Koholint Island. The dungeons are as clever as I remembered, and Nintendo added a bunch of additional collectibles and quality of life improvements to make exploring the world even dandier. The new Chamber Dungeons mode is bland and forgettable, but it’s totally optional and doesn’t deter from this grand old school Zelda adventure.
  42. Sep 19, 2019
In spite of some serious performance issues, especially when the Switch is in TV mode, The Legend of Zelda : Link's Awakening is a fantastic remake of one of the greatest masterpieces in videogames history.
  43. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a phenomenal remake of a timeless classic. Grezzo took everything that made the original great and implemented lots of quality of life improvements that make it a joy to play. It also has a great art direction that took our breath away. We can’t wait to play more remakes like this one in the future.
  44. Sep 19, 2019
The remake of Link’s Awakening shines in a bright new light on Switch with its meaningful enhancements. What a beautiful adventure.
  45. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening has nothing to envy to some current RPGs. We could complain that it is the original with few ornaments and novelties, but the essence is so deep, that it is much better that way.
  46. 90
In an era where Breath of the Wild reigns supreme, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening proves that there's still room for the tried-and-tested designs of yesteryear. It's far from innovative, but it has the undeniable allure of familiarity on its side.
  47. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is just as magical as it ever was, and, in being remade, has lost none of the charm that made the original so special in the first place. Grezzo must take the credit for that, delivering an exceptional remake that’s both a perfect entry point for those new to the series and a worthwhile nostalgic trip for those that have set out on this adventure before.
  48. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was a treasure on Game Boy. Is still is with this version, but this time it's really good-looking, irresistibly cute. Even if there are some frame rate hiccups, if you're in possession of a Nintendo Switch, don't hesitate one second and go (re)discover one the best episodes of the entire saga.
  49. Sep 19, 2019
When it comes to looking at remakes and remasters, the one question you really have to ask is, does this improve upon the original game? Thanks to a beautiful presentation, fantastic gameplay that more than holds up today and some significant gameplay tweaks, Link’s Awakening shows that old-school Zelda has just as much of a place in contemporary gaming as it did back in 1993.
  50. Sep 19, 2019
Link’s Awakening has always held a special place in my heart, but asking someone to go back to the original release is tough. With this remake, people don’t have any excuses for not playing through one of the best (and strangest) entries. I envy those of you who will be experiencing this for the first time, though revisiting it all these years later is still an absolute pleasure.
  51. It might be the perfect remake.
  52. Sep 19, 2019
If you have never experienced Link’s Awakening before then go and buy this now, because it’s amazing. If you have, the new styling perfectly complements the adventure. Plus, you’ll know that it’s well worth playing again. It’s the best 2D Zelda.
  53. Sep 19, 2019
Link's Awakening is incredibly fun for any Adventure games fan as it brings back a lot of lovely memories from one of its forgotten titles in the series.
  54. Sep 19, 2019
Link's Awakening, all these years later, is still an amazing Zelda title, it's a flood of nostalgia for those who have played it before, and if you haven't it's not one of those "old games" that people say were good, but they're just clouded by nostalgia. The slowdowns in the framerate is a little blemish, as that's the kinda thing that doesn't hold up over time. But with the limitations of the Game Boy removed, modern graphics and art, all new music — Link's Awakening continues to the littlest Zelda title with the biggest heart.
  55. Sep 19, 2019
Slight gripes with the new engine and the old source aside, this is still Link's Awakening: one of the best Zelda games to date.
  56. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a great remake, which makes loyalty and technical modernization its best points. With the exception of some minor slowdowns, we do not find drawbacks in a revival that pays tribute effectively, even today, to a historical chapter.
  57. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening manages to feel new, but still maintain the essence of the amazing original. This is peak old-school Zelda, and it's never looked better.
  58. Sep 19, 2019
Whether you’re a new or old player, Link’s Awakening remains hugely compelling and is another Switch must-have.
  59. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was a technical marvel when it first released back in 1993. Easily one of the great Game Boy releases, it was a first bash at a handheld Zelda that took the formula as perfected by A Link to the Past, jammed it all onto a tiny portable console and, somehow, managed to make it all work while adding a host of new features and concepts to the mix. This beautiful Switch remake rebuilds all of this from the ground up in fine style. It adds modern conveniences, a dungeon creator, amiibo support and lots of little quality of life improvements whilst infusing every single square inch of Koholint – every secret passage, Piranha, Pokey and Pig Warrior – with a level of detail and depth that totally reinvigorates both its timeless story and classic Zelda gameplay for a whole new generation of gamers.
  60. Sep 23, 2019
Anyone who hasn’t played the original should pick this up just to experience Link’s Awakening in its most graphically impressive form, and anyone who fondly remembers the original should pick this up too just to take a wonderful trip down memory lane.
  61. Sep 19, 2019
Do not make the mistake of considering it a minor chapter: although it does not hide its age, this valuable remake could awaken the Hero within you.
  62. Sep 19, 2019
Link's Awakening is still, after 26 years, an almost perfect adventure. It's also a well-balanced Zelda with the same amount of action, exploration and puzzle-solving. Sadly, the framerate is unstable, and the Chamber Dungeons minigame deserved more care.
  63. Game World Navigator Magazine
    Dec 6, 2019
Awakening’s world is much smaller than Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule. But within the island’s depths lies something that was missing from the last game – eight difficult, multi-layered dungeons, each with its own theme, traps and puzzles. [Issue#241, p.66]
  64. Jan 2, 2020
If you need a nostalgia trip or haven’t played Link’s Awakening before, then you won’t be disappointed with this release. Just note that it is a bit more bite-sized when compared to more recent entries in the series.
  65. CD-Action
    Oct 25, 2019
If you like the classic Zelda formula, you will be amazed with Link’s Awakening. If you don’t – the times the game strays away from said formula won’t make you a sudden believer. If you are not sure, just try it. Not many games are as cute and charming as this one. [12/2019, p.51]
  66. Oct 9, 2019
Link’s Awakening is yet another outstanding addition to the Switch library. Anyone who says that Nintendo isn’t killing it with first-party games this year is delusional. They seem to pump out a classic almost monthly. Being able to revisit one of the most obscure and delightful Zelda games from the past is just another reason why the Switch is so magical. I cannot recommend this title enough. It transcends history and feels like a game that would pass as a current title.
  67. Oct 2, 2019
Legend of Zelda - Link’s Awakening is great remake of the classic. Beautiful visuals, updated controls and an added Dungeon builder all breath new life into the title. Despite some frame rate issues, the game is a blast to play through and worth picking up not only if you love Zelda but also for those looking for an easy point of entry into the franchise.
  68. Sep 30, 2019
The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening is an extremely well done remake and stays true to the original in all of the best ways. The wonderful new art style and score make this hands-down my new favourite way to experience this classic. The lack of hand-holding may make things challenging for first-time younger players, but a solution is thankfully never too far away. Whether you've played the original a hundred times or have never experienced it at all, the Switch version is far and away the best way to play it today.
  69. Sep 26, 2019
Nintendo once again reaches back to the past to bring back one of its best games - the mobile adventures of a certain warrior in a green outfit. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is basically a brand new game that generates tons of fun even without the cult surrounding the series. If not for some technical issues, it would have been perfect.
  70. Sep 23, 2019
A game that feels like its 20-year old predecessor, but with improvements and additions that truly make a difference. Despite a constant sense of déjà vu, the shortcomings of the game’s newest playable mode and the framerate issues, Link’s Awakening is a game coming straight from our dreams.
  71. Sep 19, 2019
The classic has returned and is clearly the best way to enjoy Link’s Awakening. The mixture between the classic values of the saga and the novelties defined in the playable and aesthetic, make this new iteration a video game with an unparalleled charm: and best of all, it is extremely fun.
  72. Sep 19, 2019
This cute remake of the excellent Link's Awakening does exactly what we expected of it, namely it allows us to relive the Game Boy adventure many of us experienced more than a quarter of a century ago. Be careful though, this is strictly a remake. The only innovation — the Chamber Dungeon customization tool — is not really worthwhile. With its diorama-style artistic direction, it is nevertheless a very good pretext for new generations to discover this classic — even despite the many framerate drops, which are difficult to justify.
  73. Sep 19, 2019
It's amazing how the remake manages to preserve the feeling and charm of the original and wrap it in this beautiful look.
  74. Sep 19, 2019
Despite some uncertainty regarding the framerate The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is an excellent remake, which enhances the original experience in every way and makes it modern thanks to a very valuable series of improvements.
  75. Sep 19, 2019
This is exactly the remake that the original deserved. With a lot of subtle, but crucial improvements to the gaming experience, this is a nicer and better playing game, while still having the quirky charm of the original.
  76. 85
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, despite its share of technical mishaps, remains one of the most wonderful entries in the series. The charm, gameplay and world building are wonderful to behold and deserve to be seen. The selection of smart fixes makes the game less of a grind and mostly an experience that keeps on trucking. While I don't think much of the Chamber Dungeons and other added trinkets, the refinements made to the overall flow make the journey worth it. For newcomers or Zelda veterans, Link's Awakening is a hoot from beginning to end.
  77. 85
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Switch completely faithfully updates the Game Boy classic for modern audiences, and Zelda fans would be out of their minds not to play it. It is a piece of art in the literal sense with its impeccable presentation. It just doesn’t last very long, Chamber Dungeon is tedious and illogical, and the game won’t surprise longtime players with anything especially big and new. I can’t imagine those factors will bother fans very much though.
  78. 85
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is another must-play Nintendo Switch game. It still stands the test of time and in no way feels outdated, which is impressive for a 20 year old game. Don't let performance issues and a high price point stop you from playing this absolute classic.
  79. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening looks gorgeous, sounds beautiful, and tells a twee and compelling tale. While the game can be played through in around ten hours if you know what you're doing in advance, new players will find a lengthy and engaging Zelda game to love. Whether it's your first time playing Link's Awakening or your dozenth, you will still find a gripping Switch game that you'll remember for another twenty years.
  80. Sep 19, 2019
Despite being over a quarter of a century old, the gameplay holds up remarkably well, especially the short and sweet dungeons and delectable puzzles.
  81. Sep 19, 2019
Putting aside the gorgeous graphics, the obtuse level design, and the various modern touches, Link's Awakening is still an exceptional Zelda game. I found myself sneaking in extra sessions instead of sleeping or working. I was frantically seeking out guides online, only to discover they were all obsolete. I put off challenging the final boss for hours, all to scoop up more shells, heart pieces, and collectibles. Whatever flaws I spotted, I had no desire to leave Koholint behind. I still don't. However long it takes, I'll keep plugging away until I've crafted a fully complete save file. If you're on the fence about this game, either as a remake or a new experience, don't be. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a great game, and a clear high point in the franchise's history.
  82. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a loving remake of a decades-old game remake with just enough modern touches to make it worth playing again. Graphical overhaul aside, it’s perhaps a little too faithful to the original, while additions like the dungeon-builder are a bust. Newcomers get to experience one of the quirkiest games in the series, but for those who’ve played through it multiple times, there’s little reason to play other than nostalgia or adoration - both of which are perfectly good excuses to return to Koholint.
  83. Sep 19, 2019
Link's Awakening still is one of the most interesting Zelda games, even with all its limitations and simplifications.
  84. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is an amazing remake that gives new life to a 26 year old game, with a brilliant art style and a perfect progression tied to the finding and the use of accessories. The only technical flaws are represented by some frame rate issues during the transition from one area to another.
  85. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was a wonderful game when it first released and this new Switch version may not deviate much from the original but it definitely looks and sounds great. The few sprinkles of additional content add some much-needed value, too.
  86. Oct 23, 2019
Undoubtedly one of the prettiest remakes of all time. The original game, rather surprisingly, works great even today (with a few welcome upgrades, of course). The only thing bugging me is the weirdly inconsistent performance.
  87. Sep 29, 2019
It should be said at once: if you expect the same experience as in Breath of the Wild, you should wait for the sequel instead. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is rather a throwback to simpler times and has completely different qualities to offer. Even though, the journey itself is filled with wonderful side characters, colorful enemies and a certain mystery that is not found in other Zelda games. It's like as a small vacation resort, a place where we can sit back and relax after the fierce battle against Ganon in Breath of the Wild.
  88. Sep 27, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening has quickly become my favourite Zelda game to date, and the pacing is a strong reason why I enjoyed it so much. Every time I thought to myself, “I could really use an item to fill a specific need,” there it was. Combat is satisfying and it feels really good to take down a tough boss. Grabbing the Seashell Tuning Fork and trying to dig up all 50 is a fun diversion from the main plot and rewarding to boot. The gameplay is highly accessible, offering both a normal mode for newer players like myself or a more challenging hero mode for veterans. It’s the perfect game for anyone looking for just the right title to dip a toe into the Zelda universe and proves quality top-down RPGs are not a lost art.
  89. Sep 26, 2019
It’s impressive how much the simplest acts in Link’s Awakening remain so gratifying hour after hour.
  90. Sep 25, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake is undeniably impressive. Despite some frame rate issues, the graphical overhaul is absolutely spectacular and the soundtrack has been brought to life in a truly remarkable way. Yet at the end of the day, this is a remake of a Zelda game from a different time. Plenty of additional gameplay features have been added to make the gameplay experience more palatable by modern standards, but it may not be enough for some players – particularly if you don’t care for the older 2D Zelda games. I will still easily recommend this to anyone that owns a Switch, even if the game can be a little frustrating at times.
  91. Sep 24, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a delightful remake of an excellent game. A lot of its strength is predicated on the fact that it was built on an already exceptional Zelda game, and if you have any nostalgia for the Game Boy version, you'll be charmed by this update. The game's only real flaws are its overall short length and the frustrating frame rate issues. If you're a Zelda fan, it's still absolutely worth checking out, and if the frame rate issues get patched, this title will be the best way to play the handheld classic.

Every little thing is recreated in such a beautiful setting that it’s no surprise people would want to experience Koholint again, or perhaps for the first time. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is an unforgettable adventure, and this remake does it justice by capturing exactly what made it one of the most popular in the series.
  93. Sep 20, 2019
Link’s Awakening is a fantastic remake of a game that was fantastic in 1993. Fans must decide for themselves if those two things combine to make it a fantastic game in 2019 – particularly when the glorious Cadence of Hyrule is also on the Switch to scratch the itch you may have for 2D Zelda – and at a third of the price.
  94. Sep 20, 2019
This is old-school Zelda the way you’d like to remember it.
  95. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is an excellent remake of an already enamoured classic, translating its unorthodox approach to a traditional Zelda outing into the modern day with absolute ease. Even after two decades and change, it still plays like a dream and looks even better thanks to its adorable diorama visuals.
  96. Sep 19, 2019
In terms of gameplay, Link’s Awakening is almost the same as the original, which speaks volumes about the quality that was already present 26 years ago. The big improvement is, of course, the sparkling audiovisual presentation. Wow.
  97. Sep 19, 2019
With a gorgeous presentation and smart and minimalist tweaks, it’s as charming and enjoyable now as it was in the nineties. Let down only by the lackluster dungeon creator and some uneven performance, the design of Link’s Awakening nevertheless holds up brilliantly, which in turn makes the slavishly accurate recreation worthwhile. It’s undeniable proof that the classic Zelda formula still works – and hopefully after Breath of the Wild 2 we can get yet another classic-style Zelda.
  98. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a remake of one of the best Game Boy titles of all time and fans shouldn't expect much more than that.
  99. Sep 19, 2019
With a quirkiness to it that stands out from the rest of the series, Link's Awakening still holds up beautifully well as a modern 2D Zelda game. Outside of some nagging performance issues, Link's Awakening is a wonderful remake of a Game Boy classic.
  100. Sep 19, 2019
Whether this is your first Zelda game or if you've played Link's Awakening 10 times, there is something amazing to be found here for everyone. This remake is absolutely charming, stunning, and visually striking, making it one of the prettiest Switch games out there.
  101. Sep 19, 2019
Link’s Awakening 2019 is not the definitive 2D Zelda: that title still belongs to 2013’s excellent A Link Between Worlds. But while it may not surprise, it certainly does delight in a way that even the Nintendo 3DS game doesn’t always manage.
  102. Sep 19, 2019
The remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is stuck between two places—the past and the present. Chances are that you’ve already made up your mind about whether or not to play it. It’s a classic Zelda game given a second chance with a striking visual language and evocative, haunting musical reinterpretations. Making the jump from the Game Boy to the Switch means that you’ll spend a lot less time changing items in the menu and much more time appreciating the meticulous clockwork of Koholint Island’s challenges.
  103. Sep 19, 2019
This remake of Link's Awakening is by most ways the ultimate version of the Zelda classic. With additional content, a much-improved item assignment system and consequent gameplay improvements, a new difficulty level and a marvelous visual style, the new Link's Awakening is a joy to play and the experience would be even better if the new Chamber Dungeon component offered more options.
  104. Sep 19, 2019
If you haven't touched a classic Zelda game in a while, Link's Awakening will almost instantly transport you back to the '90s. It's simple, in many ways, but the orchestrated journey still conveys a sense of adventure, and this new version is without question the best way to experience it. And more than anything else, it will put a smile on your face. Remakes are a dime a dozen nowadays and often easy to overlook. Don't make that mistake with Link's Awakening.
  105. Sep 19, 2019
The lack of any meaningful additions is a surprise, but it only underlines what a fantastic game the Game Boy original was, in what is still a classic Zelda title that thoroughly deserves the star treatment.
  106. Sep 19, 2019
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening fits right at home on the Switch, feeling like a fresh title despite being over twenty years old Played on: Nintendo Switch
  107. Nov 18, 2019
Link's Awakening is a joyous adventure and a treat for the eyes, marred by some minor performance hiccups. It's truly a shame that this title is following up the most ambitious entry in the series' history and feels disappointingly small in comparison.
  108. Sep 19, 2019
The artistic direction is magnificent and it is a pleasure to discover or rediscover the characters and iconic moments of one of the best episodes of the series. We would have liked to see Grezzo improve or further deepen the experience in terms of additions and content and it will have to do with a "vintage" lifespan and some archaic concepts, but that does not detract from the innate charm of this opus.
  109. Sep 25, 2019
There’s no denying Link’s Awakening is a very enjoyable adventure, however. It hits you right in the nostalgia spot if you’ve played before, and even if you haven’t it stands up well against more modern titles. After all, games are still continually being made in the vein of classic Zelda adventures. It’s just a shame it’s let down by such troublesome graphical and performance issues. With an optimisation patch and a price cut, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening would be a must-buy. Until then, it isn’t.
  110. Oct 19, 2019
In the end, Link's Awakening on Switch is like a roller coaster transitioning between dream and nightmare. A timeless design that received a fantastic aesthetic update and neat quality of life enhancements, but prevents the user from advancing on their own, has grave performance problems and an abusive pricing point. I'm very saddened to say that, as an unconditional fan of the series, I cannot recommend this game to most players.

Unless you find this one on sale, do yourself a favor and grab Link’s Awakening DX instead. You’ll have the same game, minus the Chamber Dungeon, and updated graphics and still have plenty left over to get some other excellent titles.

Nintendo took a safe chance with Link's Awakening, but it was a chance nonetheless. And in spite of graphical hitches and an adherence to the design of old, the full experience—however short and predictable it is in 2019—is absolutely worth diving into if you missed it the first time around... or deleted your old GameFAQs bookmark.

It’s a beautiful retread, capturing the toy-town essence of one of Link’s most obscure and off-the-wall adventures in his history.

A masterly remake that preserves Koholint Island for a new generation. [Eurogamer Essential]
  4. Sep 19, 2019
Link’s Awakening is a beautiful recreation of a legendary game, but it doesn’t have much to offer to players who already know the ins and outs of Koholint Island. For newcomers, or people who played Link’s Awakening two decades ago and can’t remember exactly how to finish the trading quest or track down that damn singing frog, this is a worthy remake and a must-play Zelda game.
  5. Sep 20, 2019
The remake of Link’s Awakening on the Nintendo Switch is so much better than the original.
  6. Sep 19, 2019
Link’s Awakening is a special adventure and a perfect introduction to even the youngest would-be Zelda fans, but it does fall short at times. The striking new presentation is stellar, even if the game can’t quite keep up with the splendor on the technical side. And the slight enhancements made to the original’s gameplay are mostly for good, even if the biggest new feature (Chamber Dungeons) doesn’t offer much. If you can get over these issues, you’ll find a charming recreation of one of the most approachable Zelda adventures ever made.

I’ve always loved Link’s Awakening, hunched over my Game Boy and 3DS, lost in my own little world. But the Link’s Awakening remake has brightened my life considerably, by making it a game that lets you share the love.

A stunningly faithful recreation of a classic Game Boy adventure. It's gorgeous, too. I mean, really gorgeous...Its got an aesthetic that demonstrates perfectly my argument that raw graphical power is not necessary make a stunningly beautiful game. In fact, Link's Awakening may be the best looking game on a console full of lovely visuals...As far as the gameplay itself goes, it's certainly nice. And old school. With a little emphasis on the "old" part of that phrase.
  9. Sep 19, 2019
Link’s Awakening harkens back to a simpler time, one before terms like “open world” even existed. But thanks to some modern tweaks and a beautiful presentation, it approaches something close to timelessness.
  10. Sep 19, 2019
But Link’s Awakening remains a Game Boy game from 1993, and the fancy visuals don’t touch the core design, born from a specific time and place and different expectations. It remains that game, for better and worse, which means it’s a success. Link’s Awakening was special then and with the right expectations, remains special. Now, all we can do is hope Nintendo decides to give the rest of Zelda’s handheld adventures the same loving treatment.

Tiene más que merecido sus 10, pues sus caídas de frames que ocurren muy rara vez al tener el juego en una MicroSD no son algo que malogre este pedazo de obra maestra.
