  • Summary: Vaporum is a grid-based dungeon crawler RPG in an original steampunk setting, inspired by old-school classics of the genre. Stranded in the middle of an ocean, in front of a gigantic tower, the hero has to find out what the place is, what happened there, and most importantly, who he is.

Vaporum is a “Steampunk Dungeon Crawler” with a hidden mystery lying underneath the strange laboratory of mechanical creatures out to destroy you. I recommend this game to anyone looking to play a game with collecting, puzzle solving, and combat.

Vaporum is a great throwback to the days of classic dungeon crawlers. The game is full of puzzles, exploration and a wonderful narrative all wrapped in some nice, basic RPG elements. If you're buying this Switch version purely to go mobile then be forewarned that it might induce eye strain, otherwise, it's a strong buy.

Fatbot Games has done a great job bringing a game of such a classic genre to life and making it completely modern. The customization of the gadgets and circuits together with the puzzles and the sinister and intense plot, offers a great experience.

It's a fairly by-the-numbers dungeon crawl that borrows the Steampunk aesthetic, and offers some genuinely clever twists, as far as combat goes. There aren't too many dungeon crawlers on the Switch, and even within that category Vaporum is flat enough that it doesn't come out on top, but it's a pleasurable way to bust a few hours on a weekend nonetheless.

Vaporum is a deep, unique take on a dungeon crawler that melds the grimy, steampunk aesthetic of BioShock with methodical, cerebral controls and combat. The plentiful options for customisation mixed with the great character designs and overall mood make it worth playing for genre fans.

My experience with Vaporum has been a positive one.

The last dungeon crawler I played was Monkey Tavern and I found that game to be less than impressive and got tired of it pretty quickly.

However, Vaporum feels like a completely different experience, which is made better thanks to its interesting story and unique gameplay mechanics.

Honestly, I’m hard pressed to think of something I don’t like.To knit-pick, the lack on inventory space can be annoying as it can become full pretty quickly. Furthermore, there is some tedious backtracking in the game, but now I’m really splitting hairs!

I’ve enjoyed my time with Vaporum. It’s great dungeon crawler and RPG. It’s now officially my new favourite Switch indie title that I want a physical edition of!

Do yourself favour and pick up Vaporum if you love dungeons crawlers or RPG’S. Especiallyif you love levelling up, using powers, collecting weaponry, solving puzzles and defeating enemies.

Add to your wishlist or better yet just pick it up. you wont regret it I didn’t!

I literally cannot play the game because I cannot read anything, and there's a lot to read. I've never had this problem with any other Switch game.

The controls feel terrible too, and you don't get any options to change them. I'm absolutely baffled at the terrible design choices here. This is the lowest I've ever rated any Switch game :(

Update: Still absolutely no word from the devs on this a week after launch. No word on the Steam forums. No word on other peoples' Steam forum posts on this issue. No word anywhere. It's like they've completely given up.
