God Slayers is a brand new story, where our titled Warlocks now need to face the gods themselves, as apparently perishing the shadow monsters have angered them, to say the least. The Order of Warlocks has been called to challenge and dethrone the arrogant god from their thrones.

Overall, Warlocks 2: God Slayers is not perfect, but it definitely plays like it. With extensive replay incentive, charming quirks, in-depth customization, and satisfying combat, it is hard not to recommend this title. It is a fun metroidvania package, and one worth a try even if the genre isn’t your favorite and/or hasn’t stood out.

Warlocks 2: God Slayers lets players work to become a powerful warlock as they help the Order and destroy gods. The combat can get repetitive, but isn't too challenging until you encounter the bosses. With several characters to choose from, you'll be able to fight in multiple different combat styles.

Warlocks 2: Godslayers is enjoyable for the most part, but the difficult and tedious combat can take the fun out of the game for some people. The game is definitely geared for multiplayer as the combat can be overwhelming during solo play. Beyond that there are a few minor performance hiccups though it doesn’t normally affect any major gameplay. If you can get past that and the difficult-at-times combat, you’ll find an enjoyable and humorous game with some interesting gameplay mechanics and even more interesting writing.

Warlocks 2 is not a terrible game, but it required more effort in terms of finish and gameplay mechanics.

As much as I wanted to love Warlocks 2, the combat just is so sloppy, so clumsy and so - frankly - impossible that all the stuff the game does splendidly, it almost doesn't matter. Tons of characters, a funny story, great graphics and sound... none of it can escape the crushing weight of the just plain bad combat. QubicGames will forever have a soft spot in my heart, but this is definitely a misfire in their expansive catalogue. Skip this one; get Rekt instead.

Warlocks 2: God Slayers is a tedious action-RPG that will certainly satisfy those who seek out a challenge on the Nintendo Switch. It’s not necessarily the first game of its genre that I would recommend for people who are interested in the genre, but it’s certainly not the last. The tedious button mappings on the JoyCons with the slow moment-to-moment gameplay makes it an action-RPG that’s fun to play in short bursts, but not for long periods of time.

If you're just looking for a mildly-amusing journey to help pass the time, Warlocks 2: God Slayers isn't the worst choice. However, if your intension is to play on the highest difficulty and invest a lot of hours, then the game's flaws will become apparent. The projectile spam and frequent stutters are the leading sources of aggravation. This is extremely problematic on the harder difficulties, since everyone's a squishy mage. Without post-game content, there's not enough of an incentive to continue playing either. All in all, this title just isn't where it needs to be.

The character designs and setting are... atypical, so I'm curious to find out more. The gameplay loop so far is refreshingly simple, no distracting bells and whistles. I don't quite get why it gets a 6.4 average review rating at the time of writing.

Only detraction is that the aiming system really feels, like it was designed with mouse and keyboard in mind; Most notably teleport abilities don't mix well with gamepad controls and aiming support.

I was considering to buy the PC version for comparison, but I'll wait for a sale for that.

The game is funWarlocks 2 is a 2D platformer with some metroidvania elements. This review is based on a Kheera playthrough on normal. The game is fun enough. Some of the movement takes a little getting used to, but not much. For instance, holding down the jump button will let you pogo-stick around, which is very handy for battles and boss fights. The story is humorous and very much “go here” “now go here” based. There’s not a whole lot of enemy variety. And the difficulty is relatively low, with the exception of the squid-looking boss and final boss.

There are some “broken” parts of the game. For instance, at one point I fell into a “pit” where there was no escape but to teleport back to base. You could “dash” through the wall down there, but then you’d be out of bounds and have to quit too. One of the missions had no marker on Tonny when you had to bring a letter to him (he’s one of the unmarked guys among the village crowd.). The aiming system is handy when it works, but it would often target someone far away and switching targets worked sometimes and other times not.

The least enjoyable part of the game was the squid boss fight and the checkpoint. If you get killed during that fight, you go all the way back to the start of the level. Which is ludicrous. AND any resources you used during the fight don't come back. So the fight only gets harder.

All in all, a decent indy game worth a play through. The physical is $30, but it’s a redartgames limited run, so could have collectible value.
