With a strong sense of style and smart, methodical gameplay, West Of Dead delivers a game that carefully balances brutal difficulty with a true blast of fun. While you’ll die often, you’ll always be excited to dive back in.

If you like these types of games, West of Dead will make you fall in love in the portable mode of Nintendo Switch. The shootings will be intense, so if you like to shoot everywhere, this title is perfect for you.

While West of Dead makes only a fleeting pass at innovation, it is still enjoyable for a time and does a great job of nailing a sense of personality that will resonate with fans of the good ol' Western. It's only avid rogue-like players, though, that will find much here to keep themselves invested. The repetition in the core gameplay quickly saps it of its charm, in turn requiring a concerted effort to see this title through to the bitter end.

    Art design = 10/10
    Game play = 7/10
This game is flawed, but the tone and aesthetics kept mee going until eventually I really got into it.

This game is flawed, but the tone and aesthetics kept mee going until eventually I really got into it. If the designers had spent a little more time on game play balance and beta testing, this game could have easily been a 9/10, possibly even 10/10. I got it on sale for $10, which is about the most I'd recommend paying for it. If its on sale for $5 or less, I'd definitely recommend it

I feel it's always a gamble when buying games for the Switch because you never know what to expect performance wise.

This is another poorly optimized Switch port of a great game (I previously played this on the XSX). The game targets 60fps, but it rarely holds that. You have to get used to the slowdowns to get into the game, and that sucks, especially when getting killed jarring through fps down in the 20s. In some very small rooms it can do 60fps.

Another distracting issue with the Switch port is edge artifacts when moving (edges of the objects on screen flash white, looking glitchy), it happens a bit too often. This is a dark game, and the options doesn't include a gamma/brightness slider which is a shame.

Seeing other more demanding games running silky smooth on the Switch, this just screams lazy porting. Note: I've only played it in docked mode. With some better optimizing & fix this game would get a solid 8 or maybe even a 9 from me because I really do love the game on other platforms.
