By its proposal, Duel Master clearly distinguishes itself from Duel Links, the other free-to-play in the universe of Yu-Gi-Oh!. By focusing solely on the playing card game, the title offers a very complete experience with official rules and a huge collection of cards on all media thanks to cross-platform.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel delivers what all duellists have been waiting for, as well as a surprise standout solo mode that relieves itself from the shackles of the anime. With quality deck-building mechanics, intuitive duelling, and an impressive roster of available cards, it’s only the test of time that this free-to-play game still has to ace.

The long-awaited Yu-Gi-Oh! game delivers on its promise. Whether you're a novice, a hobbyist or an expert, it will be a game for you. Its single player mode which is full of tutorials to learn the basics and its mechanics while telling stories about the archetypes. On the other hand, with PvP in room or ranked with an exclusive banlist that puts all players on the same level. Especially with the possibility to craft your cards or destroy them. There are however some flaws that can be found. Apart from that, the lights are green for Konami's competitive game.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel is an odd game to recommend. Those of you who have never played before may want to check it out—it’s free after all—but even at that lowest of prices the barrier to entry is so great that it can feel like getting stuck into this one isn’t really worth the effort it would take. Those of you who have a longer history with Yu-Gi-Oh! will have a much better time getting into it and climbing the ranks, but then you were probably going to play this game regardless of reviews. At any rate, Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel has all the foundations of a potentially great online card-battler, and though it has its issues — at least at launch — it’s definitely worth checking out if you've got the fortitude to stick with it.

It's absolutely not. The game on a technical level runs flawlessly on Switch, if there are bad reviews they definitely talk about older versions of the game so you're safe to give it a try. However remember that this is a 10 just for the technical state, in my opinion if you've never played Yu-Gi-Oh the game is so far beyond repair in terms of powercreep that you're not gonna have a good time but will be crushed by combo decks you won't be able to understand. I don't recommend the game to any new player. HOWEVER, if you're a returning player I HIGHLY recommend it. There are some predatory monetizations so if you know you fall for those avoid this game like the plague but, if you're not,the fact that everything is automated alleviates so much of the stress associated with Yu-Gi-Oh. Taking a break from Yu-Gi-Oh feels like you have to study an encyclopedia of new archetypes to keep up with the game, the fact that everything is automated solves all of that. No anxiety from reading every single effect, and also whenever an effect is activated the game highlights only the portion of the effect being activated - making the game really easier to follow and understand. It's impressive, really.

Tl;dr: technical state on Switch is good. If you're a completely new player I don't recommend this, play other games like Legends of Runeterra that are more new player friendly but still carry a decent amount of depth. If you're a returning player this is such a more streamlined experience than what you've ever been used to it just might bring that old passion you had for the game back.

It's a fun game, and it runs much better on Switch now than it did at launch. Give it a shot if you're interested!

Expand

The game is cool for graphics and animations are not too long. But for the Switch It's a miss...
Menus are laggy to death, no joystick so you will use finger on portable mode for the better. For new players the ranked system is a nightmare : Opponent play 15min for every minute you play with a starter deck, be prepare to netdeck the first day for grinding (no ranking down, so you only rank up on noob experience, worst idea).
And the cards packages are very disturbing with almost 6750 cards on every choose.

It is the same as Legacy with a outdated ban-list at the time of this his review, with the PVP matches being heavily play to win. I can’t in good conscience recommend playing this game unless you get extremely lucky. 1/10 heavy P2W, with a side topping of 5 min round times as they get their Two Turn Kill set up with 4000 attk monsters on all 5 tiles.
