This expansion to our 2022 Game of the Year proves that The Case of the Golden Idol was no fluke, making an undeniable argument for even further explorations into its addicting, vocabulary-themed approach to detective gameplay.
Golden Idol Mysteries: The Spider of Lanka is a worthy follow-up to one of last year’s greatest games. Its setting was fraught with reflective commentary, its cases offered more unparalleled sleuthing, and its narrative gave more context to the original game. I wish I had more riddles to solve but I’m holding out hope fans can look forward to more Golden Idol Mystery titles in the future.
Golden Idol Mysteries: The Spider of Lanka isn’t easy to return to if you haven’t played The Case of the Golden Idol for some time, but once you get into it, it offers some of the best content in the entire game. Providing an interesting set-up for the main story and some of the best logic puzzles the developers have derived yet, those who loved the original game last year should absolutely consider checking this out. Those who can, however, should try to play these soon after completing the main game.
