It might not be the most complex or most challenging title out there, but it is unique, clever, funny, and, most importantly, genuinely and remarkably fun.

Just like a catapulted boulder, this arrived suddenly out of nowhere and knocked us off our feet. Great fun. [March 2014, p.89]

Even if the production values aren’t that great, there’s a lot to love about CastleStorm. The addictive gameplay coupled with the charming visual style and characters make it not only a must-play for Wii U owners, but a must-play for anyone who’s never been introduced to the Tower Defense genre of video games.

Castlestorm is a great mix between a tower defense game and the popular Angry Birds formula.

CastleStorm succeeds at blending together the tower defence and 2D physics-based destruction genres to create a unique and very fun game that doesn't shy away from being a goofy, good time for the player with its dry sense of humour.

With highly addictive gameplay, a fun single player campaign, competitive leaderboards and online multiplayer offering replay value, the new touch screen controls and gorgeous graphics, all of this makes CastleStorm on the Wii U an absolute joy to play.

Castlestorm displays certain qualities which are more than welcome and that shake the ground a bit in what is overwhelmingly a niche style. Nevertheless, its record would be far more interesting if its technical flaws and repetitiveness were solved.

The main game is fun, but the multiplayer is more fun and more addicting. It has BOTH local and online multiplayer. Local has one player watch the TV while the other watches the Gamepad screen. Works like a CHAMP. Great fun!
Balance your time and energy between spawning troops, shooting a balista, casting spells, and controlling your hero as you attempt to destroy the enemy castle or capture their flag.

Enter CastleStorm: a game which brings together a wicked combination of Angry Birds and Age of War, throws in a levelling system, a castle editor, leaderboards and online multiplayer, and calls it art. And what a masterpiece this game is! The Campaign mode is very long, with charming humour and a plethora of weapons and magic to boot! If that's not challenging enough for you, try measuring up against the rest of the world by collecting all of the Campaign stars, or doing the best you can in Survival and Hero Survival modes. Any fan of tower defense strategy games should pick up CastleStorm immediately. You will not be disappointed! Expand

There are a healthy amount of game modes and upgradeable units along with a simple castle editor and local or online co-op and versus multiplayer. It's a nice change of pace from hectic racers/shooters, and fits perfectly with Wii U.

It's encouraging to see that Zen Studios can create something quite unique along with their excellent pinball tables!

A fun and great value download from the Wii U e-shop.

It’s in the gameplay where this really shines; combining castle defense, troop combat and angry birds style castle smashing to create a truly unique gameplay experience. Although the controls are quite fiddly at first (a couple of things could certainly have been changed to make it a bit easier) you’ll soon be bombarding castles, casting spells, and creating troops rapidly with minimal effort. Killing enemy troops and knocking down castles is a hell of a lot of fun even if things do get a little repetitive after a while, the game is plenty long enough to warrant its price tag. The story is cheesy but it knows it and the humour is great, dishing up more than a few laugh out loud moments!

The multiplayer is great fun too especially as players can have a screen each thanks to the gamepad.

Visually it’s pretty good for an eshop game. Not groundbreaking by any means and the visuals especially come up short during the cutscenes, during the gameplay however they’re perfectly adequate. The music is great, and the sound-effects add plenty of hilarity to the situation, particularly the various things the troops say during battle.

Overall this is a great little purchase from the e-shop and well worth the money. It has that ‘just one more go’ addictive quality and the additional DLC is good value too even if it generally just adds more of the same. When it’s this much fun, who cares?

The control scheme is actually quite difficult to master, which adds to the fun challenge of it all. The online multiplayer is fun and usually not hard to find a match. I have two gripes with the game: The music is a bit generic and boring, to be honest. Also, once you figure out how to play the game, the gameplay becomes a bit stale. Unlike other tower defense games, in Castle Storm your tower is in the exact same place every time, at the left side of the screen. So where most tower defense game shine in their need to strategically place your towers on each new map, Castle Storm suffers a bit from the repetitiveness of each level, which varies only aesthetically and rarely effects any type of strategy. The Castle Editor mode does add a bit of strategy to the game because there are different ways to customize your castle to withstand more hits from enemy projectiles and choose which troops and upgrades you'll include in your castle, but this isn't enough strategy building to keep me fully entertained and on my toes. But all in all, it is a fun game that will entertain you for a while and will call you back in a month or so for more action. But it likely won't hold your attention for endless hours week after week. Expand

It is definitely what everyone says: Angry Birds + Castle Defense.

I'm giving it a light recommend, but only at $2-$3. I would not recommend it at full price.

This is a mobile game at its core, and as such, the price should match.

It just isn't for me, but I can see how people would like it. It takes parts of two popular genres, melds them effectively, and has a nice art style and humor.

I think I got it in a bundle which resulted in it being $1 or less, which is about what it is worth imo.
