Overall, Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Nintendo's Wii U is a decent addition to the series but lacking anything special to elevate it to that next level.

This latest game in the series completely forgets all the uncomfortable interactions with motion gaming or touch screens, that’s good for the mini-games that this time feel more challenging and fun. The new Olympic festival for Mario & Sonic is not a deep game, but at least it's better than other party games on the platform that may be will let you hours of fun with friends. It’s a good souvenir of the Olympic Games.

As much fun the sporting events deliver, Wii U Olympians have to swallow the bitter pill that they not only had to wait longer than the mobile sports fans. They also get the less attractive package.

It's not the definitive game based on the Olympic Games, but it's a step forward from the previous edition. A fair amount of sports and a gameplay solid enough to be really enjoyable with friends is probably all we can ask, and that is delivered.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is a fair product. It still shows some quality difference between the various disciplines, and its AI is not well balanced, but it's worth to play it with friends or family, as it can give moments of fun and lightheartedness with its multiplayer mode.

Interesting yet unprofound party game that manages to entertain in short bursts, but fails to offer a challenge or enough variety for a long term engagement.

At the end of the day, I enjoyed what Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Wii U tried to deliver. While the limited amount of events are the major downer here, I had fun playing them alone or with my friends. They found unique ways to represent the events, which is what matters at the end of the day. I do expect that the majority will be disappointed with the lack of specific Mario and Sonic touches, which is totally justified.

Sega developed another Olympic game without taking any risks, giving the player a compilation of minigames that can only be fun for a couple of afternoons if you have friends to share it with. Otherwise, there are better party games in the Wii U catalogue.

This is probably the last chapter of the Olympic series on Wii U, and it comes packed with a lot of revamped minigames and numerous occasion to have fun with friends and family. You won't probably play it a lot after the Olympic fever is over, though.

It appears to be aiming for family gaming, but just a little more depth would give it more longevity. What’s here is good, but not worth running to the shops to buy.

In short, a game, with lot of fun when you play it with friends, but it's missing sufficient Olympic events to make it a very good game.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games brings back the formula of the series that joins the two universes with an Olympic background. While the series has improved as far as customization and integration with the Miiverse are concerned, it starts to show some fatigue regarding the lack of depth of its large contents, while the absence of motion controls feels strange in some events.

Mario & Sonic At The Rio Olympics 2016 is a solid entry in the series that will provide some undemanding multiplayer fun, as well as a modicum of single player enjoyment. However, a few too many missteps, from the lack of online to some events that don’t hit the mark, unfortunately stop this from being anything but overwhelmingly average.

Once again the people behind this series deliver a mediocre game that feels as if it was developed to fulfill a commitment instead of being made to please fans from Sonic and Mario with a great experience they would enjoy. The multiplayer component can be fun at times, but not enough for a lasting experience.

An average sports game with bright and dark moments, in which unfortunately repetitive minigames play a major role. These Olympics you can miss with no regret.

Like those before it, Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games had a chance to be a lot of fun, but ended up being a mixed bag featuring both tedium and frustration. It has its moments, and some decent takes on events that we'll see in Rio de Janeiro this summer, but questionable design choices, frustratingly inconsistent AI, occasionally annoying control schemes and a lack of care for the player have all led it to mediocrity.

Disappointing on Wii U. The game is repetitive, lacks challenge and doesn't have a single-player mode.
