  1. While Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a total departure in every way from what Konami proper had started, it manages to reinvigorate the series. This "re-imagining" could have been a story rehash, instead we get a brilliantly deep game with subtle subtext and surprising symbolism.
  2. Shattered Memories is in some ways a true return to form for the series, although with recent news of Akira Yamaoka—whose music and vision has consistently defined the series—leaving Konami, it may be the last true Silent Hill game, period.

If you like survival horror games and you have a Wii, buy this immediately. Buy a second copy in case the first one wears out. If you don't have a Wii, hire one to play this. It's that good. Just don't play it alone - it's that good.
  4. If you ever want to create a horror game for a console gaming machine, than Silent Hill Shattered Memories should be used as your template. Not only it is an extremely well written game but the gameplay is quite sturdy on the Wii and is easily one of the better titles available at present.
  5. If you never played the original of PlayStation, it's obligatory to play this. For who have already played, it's interesting check out the new features that were inserted and affect the gameplay.
  6. Short, but terrifying. Buy it, enjoy it, wet the bed later.
  7. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories fills a gap in the Wii's horror lineup, and it does so with finesse and substance. It is a game that can be appreciated by anyone craving a good psychological thriller that makes good use of motion controls and in doing so, appeals directly to the Wii's core audience.
  8. It’s one of the most innovative and enjoyable survival horrors for many a year.
  9. If you’re one of those people who is sick of all those party games on Nintendo’s loveable, family-friendly console, and are crying out for a proper, grown up videogame, look no further than this.
  10. Silent Hill Shattered Memories is a special game, in which you don’t fight, you just run for your life. Not only Wii players looking for a nice thrill ride should have a look at this game.
  11. Packed with inventive ideas and one engaging sequence after another, it's a spirited, poignant and unsettling game that not only delivers a long-overduereturn to form, but reinvigorates horror adventures in the process.
  12. Play it for the atmosphere, play it for the suspense, play it for the story; we don’t care, just don’t miss out on one of the best Wii games this year.
  13. Pelit (Finland)
An incredibly immersive and original adventure in the midst of snow and ice, with one of the most memorable plots in a long time. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoy slow paced and intelligent games. [Apr 2010]
  14. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is without a doubt one of the year’s finest games, and is another example of a well made third-party game for the Wii.
  15. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a masterpiece of atmosphere. Konami has reinvigorated the series with an innovative and unsettling game. A great strong visuals, a well implemented motion controls. The best survival horror on Wii, a must have experience.
  16. Shattered Memories is actually a reinterpretation of the very first Silent Hill game. We still don't know if this is a new beginning for the series or an isolated experiment, however Climax did a great job putting together an unique atmosphere, a lot of interesting solutions and a smart use of the motion-sensitive controls. One of the best and most adult experiences on Wii so far.

It's a shame that it's so short, otherwise this is easily one of the best games on the Wii. [Mar 2010, p.73]

There are some incredible moments encapsulated within Harry's icy journey and you will be both wowed and scared as you finally uncover the truth about his daughter's disappearance and the nightmarish goings-on in the creepy town.
  19. Silent Hill gives its best in this disturbing and psychological adventure.

    Wonderfully spooky. [Mar 2010, p.68]

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a great horror game that puts this famous series on the map for the Wii.
  22. Exceptionally strong visuals for the platform and creative, well-implemented motion controls make for a memorable experience, as long as you're OK with running away from some of your more disturbing problems.
  23. Despite some elements that could have been improved considerably, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories takes the series in a much-needed new direction, making this a game that you simply must experience.
  24. Nintendo Gamer
The fat's been trimmed, but the horror has dimmed. The result is the most psychological Silent Hill yet, if not the scariest. [Feb 2010, p.56]

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories has turned out a re-imaging of the original, more than a regular remake. The story has remained largely the same, but a deep experience it is nonetheless. Gameplay-wise there have been a number of additions. Fighting is no longer possible and running is sometimes all you can do. Mostly you’ll be doing puzzles with the Wii Remote, thusly unraveling the mysteries of Silent Hill. The changes in gameplay, from reconnaissance and talking to the psychiatrist, to the start of a nightmare give variation and a good pace. It can however become tedious. Nightmares in itself could’ve been done better too. Now it’s sometimes annoying and the overview is lacking, even though that doesn’t become too much of a burden.
  26. Honestly, we didn’t expect to see the best Silent Hill since long right on the Wii, but here it is. Silent Hill Shattered Memories offers great graphics and atmosphere, but most of all it’s got an excellent gameplay.
  27. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories takes some bold, unpredictable risks with this venerated franchise, and the result is a heck of a lot more interesting than yet another survival horror game with motion-assisted aiming might have been.
  28. This reimagining significantly alters the Silent Hill formula, but for those willing to put up with the occasional frustrating chase sequence, Shattered Memories is a masterpiece of atmosphere and storytelling that demands your attention.
  29. games(TM)
A curious and original jaunt about the psyche whose quirkiness and atmosphere far overshadow its few faults and brevity. [Feb 2010, p.126]
  30. This new entry in the Silent Hill series is, simply, one of the best entries in the franchise. It knows what players want and fear, and show them their inner fears on-screen. A great game, with an unforgettable story, but unfortunately it's too short and quite easy.
  31. As Tom Hullet said, this Silent Hill is a "fresh start" for the main saga. A new brilliant idea brings the player in a frozen world populated by ugly monsters without any weapons for self-defense. Unluckily, the exploration and escaping phases are completely separated from each other, knowing this the core experience looses its charm.

This Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is recommended for everyone, although the gameplay differs a lot from the rest of the series.
  33. Forget about the Nightmare sequences; just sink into the ambiance, furrow your brow over the great puzzles, and marvel at the beautiful bleakness of it all. If you've been looking for something genuinely engaging to play on your Wii, your search is at an end.
  34. AceGamez
Despite the slight stumble with the nightmare sequences, where you feel just a few tweaks would have made player experience match developer intentions, the only real issue with Shattered Memories is its incredibly short length.
  35. Nintendo Power
So though it may not be the unqualified success we were hoping for, Shattered memories proves an audacious and ultimately compelling experiment. [Holiday 2009, p.84]
  36. This brilliant reimagining of the spooky series' progenitor is a breath of fresh air that will stick with you despite its shortcomings.
  37. 80
A mature, unique story populated with interesting characters and locations make Silent Hill: Shattered Memories an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a title that earns its rating without decapitations and nudity.
  38. If only the good aspects weren't constantly polluted by the aggravating nightmare portions, Shattered Memories might have been one of the best Silent Hill's yet.
  39. READER NOTE: Play this game alone, and in the dark—I find it kind of weird to even have to tell anybody this, but here we are (for an added mood bonus, I suppose you could even play the game with your back to a open door leading to a darkened side yard, long hallway, or garage... but it doesn't sound like a good idea).
  40. SH:SM is an impressive game. It uses all of the Wii's features to immersive you, providing a moody and atmospheric experience that plays off of your own psyche in interesting ways. Some technical issues and design choices hold it back from greatness.
  41. Shattered Memories superficially ticks off a checklist of traditional franchise elements: Psychological mumbo jumbo, schismatic world, disturbed protagonist, squicky enemies—but it never entirely feels like a Silent Hill. Which is why it’s a shame a unique, accessible horror experience had to ride the rep of another series, when it’s innovative enough to stand on its own.

My absolute favorite survival horror game of all time. Mind blowing graphics and effects and a truly involved, dark story with many twistsMy absolute favorite survival horror game of all time. Mind blowing graphics and effects and a truly involved, dark story with many twists depending on how you play and answer the psych profiles. A melancholy game for those with true "mature" tastes. The Silent Hill Shattered Memories is a game made whit passion, and Climax made a great job, creating a game unique, never seen before. The graphic is very good for Wii and the lights effects are simply fantastic. The game didn't scary me, but it has a great atmosphere. The puzzles are not very hard, but they're very funny. The story is something excellent. In fact this is a great game for Wii, and anyone should have it! Full Review »
