I have played it it IS THE SAME AS MW2. why would you buy it again ?? Activision is laughing all the way to the bank! This is pathetic and should have been released as an expansion pack nothing more!

In my opinion, yes the game is not very fresh, but surely if you already have an award winning game, why make it worse? Yet by keeping it similar, they have. The game is very similar to MWF2, however the feel of the game is a bit different. Firstly, the maps do make it more flowing, as promised, which does make the game a bit more exciting, but really recycled weapons and a small handful editions don't deliver enough. Furthermore, the mechanics on the game need a serious revamp. It feels like its trying to be realistic, and then it just slaps you in the face in certain parts with its un realism. One of the more popular aspects of the game jumps to mind, I am referring, of course, to quick scoping. Unfortunately it is a big chunk of the problem with the game, because it is so popular. There is nothing realistic about quick scoping, or in fact the way sniping is done in game. Most of the elements of the sniper rifle need to be looked at a lot. Also, we were promised 'more equal weapons' so people wouldn't just choose the UMP45 silenced and win. On most counts, they have made fairly equal weapons, yet some of them just jump out as being far too powerful, or far too weak. To name 1, the FMG9, akimbo with steady aim is a near unbeatable combination, and sucks a lot of the fun away from the game when faced with an opponent using them. Another aspect of the game, and one of the most horrendous is knifing. I don't know what happened between MWF2 and this, but knifing has just failed miserably. The complete inconsistency of this mechanic makes it un-usable, and it is suicide to even attempt knifing someone. There are no shining qualities of this game that make me feel amazed by it, there are some good ones, like flowing maps and new game modes (Kill confirmed) that make the game bare-able, but if you are looking to play a good multi-player first person shooter, go and buy Modern Warfare 2. Mw2 was an absolutley great game but to be honest, this is, well, I dont even know. From the day the trailer came out i absolutley despised it, but when i got it i had that little hope, like a normal person would, and i wasnt expecting such a sad game not that the game is bad but its soooo not what i want, im liberal, i like change simple as that. Yea, sure this game is fun. But for a Modern Warfare game, it truly is as much content as maybe a slightly-larger-than-normal dlc. I mean, sure a sequel isn't a completely new game. Just milking the cow, because they know the little kids will buy it because they think all of their friends will buy it, and so will force their parents to buy it. Sledgehammer games does not listen to the community they brought back two hated perks ghost/second chance and actually made both of them stronger. The maps are terrible there are more campers in this cod then i have ever seen in a cod because of the maps.Bad spawn system people will spawn two feet behind you and shoot you in the back all game long. The create a class menu is too cluttered and complicated all the customization you could do in black ops is gone the playercard lacks lots of stats that black ops had and they dont even show a persons captures and defends in domination in stead you get to see assists. And to top it off MW3 has worse lag then Black Ops and that's really bad.Lol i think i will just buy treyarchs cod's from now on since sledgehomo games has no idea what they are doing.

On the multiplayer game I have one issue. They basically took the original system for earning attachments, and made it easier. You dont need headshots, just kills. Cod 2 was exciting it had a new engine and looked great, cod 3 was adding new things to the game, like sprint and updated multiplayer. Cod4 comes out and its simply amazing, the campaign was fantastic story was gripping and the multiplayer was a stand alone feat! then Cod WaW was just getting better! it added a new co-op mode where you could play parts of the campaign online co-op! it had all the same multiplayer with updates to it to make it better for the players, and finally it had Zombies which is one of the biggest things Cod has ever had a series...now this may just be me...but it went downhill from here. Mw2 is released to one of the biggest mass audiences ever, it came out amaizingly well the story was gripping and full of twists and turns. the multiplayer was updated for more arcade and less realistic but funner, you could hop on and feel like you did something, the co-op was gone in zombies and campaign but it was still there for spec-ops where you try to do different things so you can complete objectives but the problem was it was rushed. where cod 4 and waw had had about 4 years to be made mw2 had only 2 years. this ment that there were glitches. lots of glitches. it had overpowered shotguns that kill in 1 hit from 20 feet, the rpgs with the huge 30 foot explosive kill radius, dual glocks with overpowered it was horrendous to all who saw it. people began to turn away from Cod, and this was bad. Blackops. This game added so much to the series. it had its own type no visuals game in it, a updated zombies mode, their was an online where you could challenge people for money to use to buy new items. you had a money system where you didnt have to work to upgrade a gun or rank up to a perk you just buy them and customization was at an all time high. there were about 100 gun camos, emblems were completely customizable, the red dot sights on guns were customizable too! it had an offline mode where you could fight aginist Bots and rank up there, and it added a theater mode where you could watch old games and even a new ability to have 2 people play online from the same xbox/ps3!. it even had a new top down acrade game! now while the graphics were getting only slowly better there were only a few good leaps and mw2/bo had them. even black ops added an new movement ability! you could swan dive around places! it was good fun and it felt like a new game. mw3. let me level with you all i am probably biased about this game but its with good reason. you see how all the other games had updates and added more to the game the thing is mw3 didnt. it changed the multiplayer in only small tweaks, like killstreaks per class now but thats all i can really see. it actually took most customization away like most camos, red dots, and customization for emblems in favor of mw2 style. the graphics had not changed the story was solid but most of them are in cod games, the co-op was only the same spec ops but it had a new ranking system for the new gametype called "survival" which was basically zombies but people had guns. it is fun and changes a lot but not completely original or that fun when multiplayer comes looming about. the multiplayer maps are not diverse, they are more of the same, the guns feel really bad and not realistic, not much updating but enough to show a little something. thats just how the game is and i do not see how it can truly be considered to be a new game. it is merely an expansion pack. thats all i see. if you have any other opinions thats for you but this is how i see the series as a whole. black ops 2 will hopefully save cod. The original MW was a breakthrough, it had great story and gameplay, what I didn't expect however was that same game to be released again two years later with litle more than a texture pack and some campaign DLC. Considering this my attitude to MW2, imagine my surprize when the thinking caps down at Activision went into over drive and made MW3. Once again all I can say is wow thats a nice texture pack and DLC. Fair enough the mutiplayer is fun, but its no different from the first two. The only thing worth a penny in the call of duty series right now is the Zombies mini-game, considering a lack of that in this title to me it is worthless. Want some fun, go out and buy something you have never played before, because in about ten years time your going to look at your game collection and realised that for those ten years you spent just over £1000 on the same game every single year.

Alright, let me be clear, if this was an independent game I would give it a 4 or 5 but as a closing game in a trilogy it comes with certain expectations. Those were not met. at all. MW2 was bad, but not anywhere near the level that this game was. Just to hit a few quick points: a coordinated simultaneous terrorist attack across all of Europe, a Russian Navy, a naval invasion of NYC, kidnapping the presidents daughter to coerce him (there are safeguards against this in the Russian laws), the peace treaty being signed with no repercussions, the vigilante justice of Makarov (he would be captured, tried, and hung), the unbalanced multiplayer, the underpowered airbased killstreaks, the broken perks, the support killstreaks, awful spawn system, etc. These are all the things wrong with the game, I don't feel like typing for 20 minutes to elaborate, but look them up if you need to. MW3 took every flaw that the recent CoD games have been plagued with and pushed them to their limits. The perks are broken, there are deathstreaks, there are killstreaks that one can die and still get, the guns fire quickly, there's tons of aim assist, and one's aim is thrown off wildly when shot by these spray-happy weapons. There is no depth to this game. Activision knows that a new CoD game needs to be pumped out every year, because these games simply have no staying power. Games like CS and Quake have staying power, because one could play for years without hitting any kind of ceiling. This is why CS has as many players as MW3 over a decade later. This game is perfect for studying if you're a dev and you're interesting in making an FPS game. If one has intimate knowledge of MW3's mechanics, then he knows exactly what not to include in an FPS. I could easily write an encyclopedia detailing the flaws in this product, but I think I'll end the review here and go play some Counter-Strike instead. Expand

One of the most overrated games of all time. I bought it expecting good things because my friend kept banging on about it. I was shocked when I realised how noob friendly the game was. Every time I got on a decent killstreak I would get shot in the back. Multiplayer ultimately sucks balls now.

However, as I and many other people came to find out , It wasn't. Modern Warfare 3 turned out to be a huge disappointment to the fans of previous call of duty games. As far as I can see, all of the "new" additions they added to the multiplayer were just things stolen from other games, especially the game "Homefront", such as the point streak system and many of the new kill streaks(ballistics vests, recon drones, assault drones, reaper drones, etc.). Once you get passed these additions, you can see that Modern Warfare 3 is really just the evil twin of the previous Modern Warfare game. It is call of duty at the core, but it is clear that Infinity Ward/Activision isn't trying to make the games for the fans, but only for the money. So after everything that I said I think this game gets the rating that it deserves and I hope that many people can agree with me that Modern Warfare 3 was a disappointment to say the least. Expand

The only reason to play this instead of the last two CoD releases is that there is a certain portion of fellow CoD gamers that have moved on to this release and you want to keep playing with those gamers, learning new maps and slightly different builds just to keep things fresh. However, I recommend trying different types of games altogether if you think mastering MW3 is as fun, if even worth your time, compared to playing MW2 or BlackOps some more. CoD has just become a foregone conclusion to me. Every year we will see some new twist on it that keeps the revenue train rolling but like a girlfriend you've grown tired of over time, it doesn't matter how many different positions or costumes they try on, things get stale and depressing until both parties move on with their lives. I see all the other mediocre user reviews as symbology of a bitter end to what used to be a grand love affair. It makes me sad to see you go CoD but I just can't stand to be in the same room with you anymore. Modern Warfare 3 is a completely ripoff of a game that throws together a dull and plain campaign and a painfully bad multiplayer. Already they have set a standard for over priced DLC and little effort in yearly releases, which is hurting the gaming industry at large. The game might be fun when you initially play it, but you soon realize it is almost a direct copy and paste of the previous MW games (literally, they've taken the same textures, sounds, EVEN whole buildings from CoD4 and MW2.

At least MW1 to MW2 had a respectable amount of content added. This game is definitely not worth $60 and should have instead been released as $30. Unfortunately Activision has no plans of ever doing that considering people are eating these games yearly. What that little kid at Gamestop and his mother don't understand is the industry, specifically the consumers, are being negatively impacted by this (for the lack of better words) BS of yearly "$60 map packs."

Also, why is this game still using a peer-to-peer form of multiplayer? Instead of hiring Kayne West to CoD XP, they could have easily added dedicated servers and probably saved a million dollars. Thanks, but no thanks, Sledgehammer/Infinity Ward and Activision.

I'd rather they re released CoD 3 with HD graphics and played that Multiplayer because that was fun and addictive whereas CoD MW3's gameplay is boring, stale and irritating Expand

MW3 lets the killstreaks do all the work, no effort needed. Needless to say, it is not even interesting anymore. Kill Confirmed, many people just play to kill and dont collect the dog tags, once again forgetting about teamwork.

I HAVE GIVEN 2 points out of 10, just for survival. Although it is NOWHERE as close as zombies, its different and interesting. Story, I was excited, but it just didnt work out as planned. I still dont understand the story.

While the multiplayer is fun sometimes, you can tell just by looking at gameplay that the designers were incredibly lazy and thinking were all just a bunch of idiots. Nothing at all is entirely new or original, there were just a few tweaks hear and there. Sound quality is horrible, and graphics again are the same. This is the only Call of Duty game I ever returned to the store after a few months of play. Save your money and never include this in your library. Expand

Whatever happened to innovation in games? Sure, MW3 introduced some new game modes and leveling system, but enough to be allowed to release a new game every year? Not at all. MW3 is nothing but a rehashed version its predecessors and there should be no reason that they make us buy a new title every year when they're not offering us anything new.

Rehash Samefare 3. This game is SO bad that the devs on twitter are asking people to uprate it here on metacritic. I've never seen a dev do that. This is exactly what Activision deserves.

I cant believe they re-released MW2. I am ticked off. Worst investment ever. NO new engine, same all copy paste scenarios from MW2 and lets not forget the minimal character development. Just because you have voice actors with a british accent that does NOT mean the campaign will be awesome. I hate this, I honestly do.

A total step backwards from MW2. No graphical improvement, no innovation, and worst of all, the maps are not well thought out and are just not that fun.

I've yet to find ANY map where I need any long range optics, because there aren't any. This is run and gun BS all day. Even snipers have said F it, and are going with nothing but sub machine guns. Where is the varied sizes of maps found in Black Ops or MW2? What's even worse, is these confined maps do nothing but promote camping. There is no way in hell anyone has played this game, and can disagree with me on that. Go play SeaTown and tell me I'm wrong. I just don't get what IW thought they were putting out. I heard Robert Bowling say how they've changed things up so camping is harder, and how the spawn system would no longer put you in harms way. Well that's just plain **** I understand ALL FPS will have campers and other forms unskilled play, but MW3 is just on another level when it comes to people sitting in corners and waiting for someone, anyone to walk by. Oh, and let's talk grenade launchers. The introduction of the XM25 was supposed to make it harder to spam the launchers, and it kind of has, but you STILL have the under barrel attachment launchers that.....you guessed it.....can spam til your heart's content. I waited in line to get my MW2 Limited Edition Console because I love CoD and I really thought Robert Bowling and Glen Schofield were being honest when they said they listened to the community and fixed our biggest gripes. I guess I was naive in thinking that some big time developers were actually being honest with the people who support their industry. Maybe they did try, but the masses say otherwise. This game has gone on to break records, and with all the BS STILL in this game, controllers will be broken as well. I think I'm done with CoD for this generation. It's gotten stale. I'm not looking for a revolution, I'm looking for some honest to goodness evolution of this franchise and it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon no matter who is at the helm of this famed franchise. I did love the campaign though. Expand

Creativity fuels games and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has none.

I would have liked the campaign to have been longer, the story was good but the campaign was just way to short.

The multiplayer is where I the game disappointed me the most, and that's saying something from the already low expectations I had. Spawns are ridiculous in the game, after playing the multiplayer for a few hours, it astonishes me how often I kill someone to have them spawn behind me, or how often I spawn in an enemies path. The maps are all tiny full of winding corridors and very little open space. The guns respond terribly, and they all behave similarly (i.e. fire rate and stopping power). Kills come extremely easy, both ways, and take very little skill. Have had a few problems with lag so far, and it's not on my end, it's not that bad yet, but knowing the previous titles it will get worse with time. To me the multiplayer is just a chaotic mess, more akin to Halo than the COD titles I used to love playing. I give this a 3, because that's how many hours the campaign kept me entertained.

So here is the deal, I bought this game for the multiplayer, who didn't, it doesnt mean I won't play single player or anything else, just that my main goal is to enjoy multiplayer. CoD has offered a very specific flavor of multiplayer that I have enjoyed, but this iteration actually felt off, not quite as good as MW2 or Black Ops. More importantly, the maps for multiplayer, are bland, mostly too hectic and feel ugly. I haven't found a single map that I have enjoyed greatly. That is not a good start. Even remade maps would have served better. The Single player so far is boring, disjointed, and already I feel disconnected from the characters I love, Soap and Price. They don't have the same flavor, and the (SPOILER) guy meant to protect the Russian president being shot by Makarov..... that felt rehashed and boring, I'm not sure I will even bother finishing single player. Survival has been enjoyable, but its just like another form of zombies, good but in the end nothing unique at all. In the end Ill play it, probably more then it would seemed based on my review, a little hypocritical I know. However, I already know now that BF3 for me has taken over the joy that I once held for the CoD series. It seems treating your stars like crap, forcing them to leave, and throwing random **** barely tested developers on a much loved series is just not a good idea. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
