Another stellar 360 JRPG exclusive, the story and characters are what make this game truly incredible.

Let me start off by saying I'd actually rate the game an 8.5 but i gave it a 10 to help cancel out some of the unwarranted 0's. I'll keep my review short and to the point, the graphics for the time are pretty impressive, the ost is top notch, the story is memorable, the cast is quite good, gameplay is one of it's weakest points as there's nothing that really stands out as neither good or bad, just average.
Overall, Lost odyssey is a gem that's mostly been forgotten due to it being on the wrong system, definitely worth a playthrough for any jrpg fan.

Lost Odyssey is a long arduous journey, but it is one that’s filled with a story that continues to flesh out its characters right to the very end.
The traditional approach will put off as many as it pleases, but Lost Odyssey is a cracking RPG which looks great, plays better, and is genuinely affecting. [Apr 2008, p.80]
The immersion is there, the gameplay can be fun, but overall, Lost Odyssey fails to "go the distance" as a modern-day RPG. Whilst it offers a unique twist to the genre, it definitely lacks more content and depth to be regarded as a truly great RPG. Hardcore RPG gamers won't find it rewarding enough.
Lost Odyssey doesn't rewrite the rules for turn-based role-playing games, but its great story and minor formula tweaks will keep you entertained.
We have immense respect for what Lost Odyssey tries to do: be a back-to-basics JRPG with modern technological trimmings on the 360. Unfortunately, it's less a celebration of what made older RPGs great and more a crude relic of their past.
I feel like this game could have been something really special, but they kind of blew it. What they nailed were the "dreams" or short stories of Kaim's past. Those were 10/10 better than the game. I think the main story could have captured what made those dreams so interesting if they had you experience Kaim's life as he went through his endless journey. If you had to constantly go through the cycle of growing feelings for new characters and then watching them die, you would be emotionally synced with Kaim in a really unique way. Instead the story turned into "you have to stop mustache twirling, forced evil laughter bad guy from taking over the world". Okay. Bad move imo, but that said I still overall enjoyed the game and would recommend.
An aside, but the more I think about this the more I feel like different people had to have been involved with the writing of the "dreams" vs the main story. The writing in the dreams is just so, so, so much better than most of what you got in the main story.

The game has bad story. Just bad. Redeemed by excellent novels between every chapters which was great, but then again, those should be released as a book, not as a part of the game. And thats that, every other aspect of this game was generic, boring, already been there did that feeling. Just uninspired. It's a shame that I'm afraid this will be the last title i will play from the original makers of Final Fantasy series - which are my all time favourites...

This game is very traditional, almost to a fault. It practically reeks of Final Fantasy 9 copying. While the immortal system is okay, the battles are so obnoxiously slow that it becomes unbearable after a while. At first, it is barely noticable, but the monotony suddenly weighs down and the slow attack and magic animations make the battles far too lengthy. Since the game has random battles, this is a serious issue and annoyance, especially when you are forced to travel around an area to solve puzzles. The level cap adds to this frustration since you have no motivation to battle enemies without the promise of a buffed party. Sure, the soundtrack, aesthetics, pacing, and most all other elements of this game are great, but this whole game is tainted by one wound that is repeatedly dug into with alcohol and dirt.

Well after my original review things changed very fast.
All I can say is I will be happy to generate some royalties for some of the songs on media streaming but that is where it stops.
I killed lots of enemies, collected loads of stuff and then had to pause it to do something and when I went back made a mistake and died. I then went back miles to the last check point. I was literally seconds from the next. No saves in between. So then not wanting to repeat the same bit, ran through as quick as I could, not realising I was missing vital items for battle and it became impossible to win regardless of strategy.
I do not have time to waste covering old ground. The game in hind sight was not much fun and only held together by it's OST. The thought of redoing that stretch again was soul destroying and God knows how many more times that would have happened throughout the game.
The game just has blatant disregard for your time.
