The game offers long-time fans the epic experience they have been clamoring for. The solo adventure features more than 40 hours of gameplay, an emotionally engaging story, traditional cut scenes, and strong character development. The title's hero is Ethan Waber, a 17-year old cadet intent on saving his sister, who is living on a planet under siege by mysterious life forces called THE SEED. In Online Mode, players are given the opportunity to create their own characters from a range of races, and they get to explore all three planets in the Grarl solar system. Fans can travel with a squad of other adventurers, enter urban sprawls teeming with hundreds of other players, and build their avatars into powerful warriors. [Sega] Expand

Action-based online RPG-ing, and nowhere near as intimidating as its PC-based cousins. [Christmas 2006, p.88]
  2. Universe is a strong and worthy sequel to the 2000 Dreamcast classic, but key absences – specifically the offline multiplayer – make a very good case for waiting.
  3. It’s not quite as open-ended as genre titans like World of Warcraft, but there’s a lot to like about PSU; it offers a vast, engaging and personal online and offline experience – plus there’s just something blissful about hitting robot Ewoks with a giant sword.

It succeeds in tracing classic-but now dated-gameplay structure while offering an instantly accessible social online aspect that may well offer an avenue into MMO not usually accepted by those with more of a penchant for more immediate titles. However, it fails monumentally to accept the next-gen baton handed up hopefully by its Dreamcast predecessor.
  5. On paper, expanding upon each aspect of the well-received Phantasy Star Online appears attractive, yet a shoddy execution lacks the finely-tuned balance the game was known for.
  6. The single-player is a fun new addition but is plagued by frustrating design choices and idiotic AI, while the multiplayer is very hard to justify paying £6.99 a month for, especially as the game doesn't even come with a free trial period.
  7. There’s just nothing there to recommend, beyond a reasonably decent plot. Best thing I can suggest, then, is to find a detailed guide somewhere online and read the story there – you’ll have more fun and won’t waste time and money on the game.

So yeah erm, top notch! These days it might not be worth it though because the servers are offline :(

The offline modes are ok though, and there might be a private server soon!

The graphics aren't anything to show off the power of the 360, but they're fine enough. The story is pretty good, and I liked Ethan's character. The one thing I will complain about is that the missions are super long. It took me an hour to rescue Lumia in the first mission. A good game if you have at least an hour and a half to play at a time. Also, I don't like the fact that you can only save at save points. It doesn't bother me but it's not particularly ideal. Expand

I mean, forget about blaming them, how about making it simple and blaming xbox, we all know that it's them that gives the gaming companys deadlines and pushes them to release games before they should be. So, rather than slamming the creators of phantasy star, i'm going to set my sights on microsoft. Bravo !!!! Let's begin, the graphics are horrible, it looks more like a play station 2 game than a revelutionary new game made for the revelutionary new system. Xbox is literally paving the road for playstation 3 to blow it out of the water. The AI in this game was dumber than my neighbors annoying purse sized dog (at least, I think it's a dog). The voice overs were, wait, there were none. The fight scenes were boring with nothing new or exciting. I was initially excited about this game because i love rpg's but I am catious about anything put out for the xbox 360 so i rented it first. I was not more than 3 minutes into the game when i began to regret wasting the 7 bucks to rent it. I want to say more about how worthless this game is but i get lost in all the possible things to say, so i will sum it up in one word, WHACK!!!! Expand
