Fight through all 14 Bydo-infested stages in original 2-D or all-new 3-D graphics, and swap back and forth on-the-fly. The classic gameplay remains untouched, and a new Infinite game mode allows continuous progression from game start to the final boss. The Bydo will not evade you this time! Game modes can be played as single player or multiplayer missions, either locally or over Xbox LIVE. Pull yourself together, save the Earth, and strike down the evil Bydo Empire! Multiple game modes: Try the Classic game mode with play that exactly mimics the original coin-op experiences, or the all-new Infinite game mode, assuring the completion of your game regardless of skill level. Either mode offers both single player and all-new co-op play (both local and over Xbox LIVE). Switch on-the-fly between 2-D and 3-D graphic modes even during play. Crazy camera: Play from a non-orthogonal camera view, adding a whole new perspective. Cooperative play: New cooperative play uses a simple yet thrilling revive system, and a ship collision feature that can be turned on for added difficulty and sparring. New features: The new stage unlock functionality allows you to have immediate access to your favorite stages, and the new Continue option lets you restart from the last accessed checkpoint when the game's over. The fact that you can change the graphics instantly is just plain cool, and creates a real "how'd they do that?" feeling, but both the angled view and the 2D "arcade" camera -- where you view the game through a tiny arcade cabinet monitor -- are novelties.

If you fondly remember the R-Types of old and have been itching to feel that sense of intense difficulty again on your console, then you’d be crazy not to download this one.
  3. For a 22-year-old game it stands up remarkably well, but it's a shame that a few omissions prevent R-Type Dimensions from being all it could have been.
  4. You can’t ignore that R-Type Dimensions offers another taste of classic gaming, with some enhancements to make it more attractive and contemporary, and that’s playable from the comfort of the living-room couch.
  5. R-Type Dimensions is a good adaption with very few changes. This game is definitely able to guarantee some hours of entertainment.
  6. So really it depends on whether you’re willing to fight through the classic mode to try and justify your purchase. Those that do will enjoy R-Type Dimensions despite it’s horrendous difficulty level.

R Type dimensions includes R Type and R Type 2. The final bosses of both games are nearly impossible and you would be lucky to make it past the first couple levels. However there's a sense of satisfaction from making it farther than you did last time. Also, you can play it cooperatively, and can toggle infinite lives for the faint of heart. Expand

R-Type Dimensions allows me to do both with unlimited lives! You can still play the the right way if you're hardcore, but these new additions make the game much more accessible. Optional graphic upgrades, local or online co-op and the ability to replay any stage as much as you want round out the collection. This is R-Type perfected. Expand
