Rush'N Attack: Ex-Patriot is pretty short and sits on a weird transition point between a side-scroller and an exploration-based adventure game. It takes a little bit of getting used to, since some of the stealth elements are counterproductive (i.e. if you whistle to lure an enemy over to your hiding place, it also alerts them to your presence, thus ensuring your discovery). It's not a bad use of ten bucks, as it gives you a pretty decent weekend's worth of entertainment.

For once, it's nice to find a retro revival that does true justice to an old classic, and for only 800 points you can't even moan about the price. Credit where it's due: Rush N' Attack: Ex Patriot surpasses every expectation we could have had of it.

It lacks in complexity, so those expecting the next great action game will probably be disappointed. Otherwise, if it's an arcade romp you want for 800 Microsoft points, take a stab at it.

This is a singular title which is not that similar to the 1985 original. Those who are looking for an HD version of Green Beret might be disappointed, but this is still a good action game with simple gameplay that blends action, adventure and stealth.

Rush n' Attack Ex Patriot is a decent game that deserves attention from the fans of arcade platform games, in particular the old ones that 25 years ago wasted all their coins playing Green Beret. Shadow Complex and Bionic Commando Rearmed are in a different league, but it might be worth a try.

Not as good as we expected: the mix of action and stealth doesn't work too well. It's biggest flaw, though, is not being as faithful with the original as other remakes/sequels of old arcade games.

It comes up short. It's split into three uninspired levels of repetitive knife stabbing, sloppy platforming, and switch hitting to drain out toxic sludge. [Mar 2011, p.98]

Overall Rush'n Attack: Ex Patriot, despite its flaws (poor audio, platforming and overall game play), kept me coming back for more as the story progressed.

Let me be clear. Rush 'N Attack: Ex-Patriot is, overall, not a good game. It has enjoyable moments that are buried under a frustrating control scheme, horrible writing, and a Frankenstein's monster of mechanics that worked well in other games.

Reinventing an old coin-op is fine with us, but unfortunately, this redux fails to meet modern standards. [April 2011, p.79]

It is not that Ex-Patriot is a bad game, it is just that there are better and smoother alternatives on the XBLA marketplace. Unfortunately, if you want a more enjoyable experience (that also costs less and has an entertaining co-op feature), check out the original version.

Rush'N Attack: Ex-Patriot disappoints with bad controls and fights that are way too easy – the only challenge is to avoid the glitches.

Rush'N Attack could have been a nice mix between action, stealth and platforming. But each part of its multifaceted gameplay somehow fails to give us what we expected.

More variety in the gameplay and more clarity in how the game actually works would have been much appreciated.

You may have a modicum of fun clambering around and slashing guards, but Rush N' Attack: Ex Patriot is a cheap, tepid re-visitation to a game that wasn't all that memorable to begin with.

It took Konami 25 years to make a second Rush'N Attack game but this isn't what we were waiting for. The gameplay is very repetitive and the only strenghts of Ex-Patriot are its nice graphics. Definitely not worth your money.

Rush'N Attack: Ex-Patriot feels very much like a game that was pulled out of the 'canceled projects pile' of 1997 and touched up with a few layers of Bondo. It's outdated, with features from other games haphazardly bolted on, and other concepts that simply don't work. There are a handful of exciting battles and set, but a few thrilling minutes can't make up for four hours of boredom.

    Unresponsive and inaccurate. [Issue#72, p.101]

Ex-Patriot is a drab, boring example of the dangers of nostalgia-mining down an unstable shaft. It plays badly, it looks dated and its design is uninspired and boring.

Another unfortunate example of a classic game that has been marred by a shoddy modern redux. [Issue#106, p.124]

Rush'n Attack: Ex-Patriot is a brilliant example of how not to reboot an old franchise.

From the very start of the game, it becomes quickly apparent that Rush'N Attack has nowhere to go but down. The visuals are ugly and look dated, it borrows the majority of its concepts from other better games and it simply is no fun to play.

This is the worst sort of throwback: It neither recalls fond memories of 1985, nor keeps pace with the state of games in 2011. It does not need to exist.

No charm or retro value whatsoever. Almost no value at all, in fact. Avoid this one like the plague.
