SAW is a third-personJigsaw has killed your partner and destroyed your life. Now he has trapped you in an abandoned insane asylum that he alone controls. If you can defeat his brutal traps and survive, you may just discover the truth behind what drives this twisted serial killer. SAW is a third-person perspective, survival horror game based on the SAW film franchise. The game features many of the deadly mechanical traps seen in the film, as well as terrifying new ones. Players pit their wits against Jigsaw as they navigate his world in an attempt to evade and escape his gruesome traps, while also struggling against his minions in brutal combat by using weapons found within the environment. SAW, the video game, is based on a treatment from Zombie Studios and the creators of the SAW franchise, Leigh Whannell and James Wan. The timeline for the game takes place between the movies: SAW and SAW II, giving the game its own story, yet fitting within the narratives of the movies. The story centers on Detective David Tapp who awakens in a decrepit, abandoned asylum. He has been captured by his longtime nemesis, Jigsaw. Obsessed with catching this serial killer, Tapp’s mission has consumed him and ruined his family, resulting in divorce, mental imbalance, and abandonment. Worse yet, this frantic hunt destroyed Tapp’s career while he watched his long-time friend and partner get killed by one of Jigsaw’s traps. Now Jigsaw has the upper hand and has captured the detective. Tapp must play a deadly game - the likes of which he has been investigating for years - to escape, and in order to do so he must survive the lethal traps and puzzles that Jigsaw has put in place for him and others. But each victim has a dark connection to Tapp. Will Tapp save them? Can he survive his obsession to find the Jigsaw killer? [Konami] Expand

  1. Thrilling, chilling, with a whole lot of blood spilling. A deeply intense and enjoyable single player game, marred slightly by a lack of multiplayer, clunky combat, and some repetitive gameplay.
  2. A great game that will grip you to the end but sadly let down by some awkward fights. Fans of the film will not be disappointed.
  3. It's the perfect rental for Saw fans, and the same can be said for those seeking another game to boost their gamerscore.

While playing this game you will notice the simplicity of the puzzles. And because of the bad sound, the game isn't scary at all, what it should have been of course. Therefore Saw: The Videogame is disappointing.

Could have done just as well on the original Xbox. [Jan 2010, p.93]
  6. Classic case of film becoming mediocre game. Surprise surprise.

To an industrious, moralising serial killer, Saw would seem an apt punishment for a life wasted on videogames. [Christmas 2009, p.99]

The game has taken the best elements from the classic survival horror games and combined it ingeniously with the Saw franchise. Although, the combat does fall short of perfect, but that doesn't ruin the game at all. Expand

It did well to tie into the films, Good voice acting and sounds, solid graphics as well. It was also challenging to solve all the puzzles as well. The only bad thing is the terrible combat system, Besides that it was a good game. Expand

I actually enjoyed this game. The puzzles, mostly, are challenging and fun to do and the story and atmosphere are amazing. There are only twoI actually enjoyed this game. The puzzles, mostly, are challenging and fun to do and the story and atmosphere are amazing. There are only two bad things about this: the combat and the shotgun traps. The combat is broken and hard to become used to. The shotgun traps are placed randomly and will kill you when you least expect it. However, this does not ruin the game and I still recommend it. Very hard to recommend, unless your a die-hard SAW fan. I enjoyed the return of the series characters and the progression of the story. TheVery hard to recommend, unless your a die-hard SAW fan. I enjoyed the return of the series characters and the progression of the story. The graphics are pretty nice, but the gameplay is awkward and the setup is very lazy. Most traps and areas are reused several times, but most traps are very creative for their environment. So only fans of the movies will highly enjoy this. Expand

Old, outdated, boring and lifeless - Saw its just about as boring as the movies were. Boasting a lackluster combat system and messy controlsOld, outdated, boring and lifeless - Saw its just about as boring as the movies were. Boasting a lackluster combat system and messy controls players will soon enough find themselves in a latch of boredom and rage. Not only that, but the games effort of character development fails to impress too, as charcters are introduced and killed off in minutes. The 6-8 hour video game just about sums up everything bad about today's gaming. Brutal, but True... 3/10 Expand
