"Anthem is one hell of a decent loot-shooter that boasts some ambitious mechanics. Its massively engaging combat and its flow of movement takes center stage, with its several activities, its deep lore, and its diverse and interesting world following closely behind. That said, Anthem isn’t without fault, and BioWare will need to carefully address the game’s issues alongside its community feedback to ensure they maintain player interest." ... Read full review

"Anthem may thrive. Anthem may fail. It has the bones to be something great but I am tired of saying that about so many games in this genre and five years after Destiny 1, I can’t believe we’re here yet again. Get it right the first time, because everyone is losing patience." ... Read full review

"In comparison with even the base Destiny 2 – let alone that game expanded by all its excellent DLC – Anthem feels not so much unfinished as barely started. It contains some good ideas which it fails to develop, and some of its basic pillars, such as the insistence on fourplayer co-op, somehow convey the impression of being tacked on rather than fundamental. And even with the huge early patch, it’s still glitchy – we had to play three quarters of a 45-minute Stronghold without sound, for example, which was disconcerting."

"If ever there was a game in recent memory that seemed unconsciously engineered to ferret out if someone leans toward a glass half-empty or a glass half-full disposition, it’s this one. Anthem is nothing if not a mixed bag." ... Read full review

"I am sorry to say that Anthem has fallen short in pretty much every way. Not only do I believe that Anthem was never originally conceived to be a Live Service game and was hijacked by EA to jump on that bandwagon, but also that this game was released in an unfinished state. This has left such a sour taste in my mouth because when Anthem is working well, it can be a real fun time; flying around, getting into intense battles against humans and beasts. But it has so spectacularly failed in all other areas that I simply cannot recommend this game. And with The Division 2, a game that has experience in the Live Service sector only weeks away from launching, I feel like this Anthem will just fall on deaf ears." ... Read full review

Bioware tried to do something different and it worked. Rockstars and Activision cant make a game like this. This game is getting undeserved hate.

That being said, it is still a fun game with beautiful graphics and an interesting world. The javelins are not exactly one trick ponies but you unlock all of the abilities very early and then it's just increasing numbers. There are some baffling design decisions such as only being able to free play with four players. I found that unless you have exactly three friends to play with, you end up scattered all over the map. Also, the first person sections versus third person sections feel very disconnected. Expand

It's too little, too late.

Bioware attempts to get into the loot and shoot genre only to have too little content and not enough quality control.
-Only 3 Strongholds/Raids
-In-game store for cosmetic items
-Lack of optimization when flying around
-Fort Tarsis being so small it makes Dragon Age 2's Kirkwall seem large by comparison
-Lack of Roleplaying and dialogue options found in other Bioware games
-Story mode so lacking they padded it out with grindy missions.

While customizing one of the 4 Javelins is entertaining for a little while, there's not enough there to justify a $60 purchase.

If you have Origin Premiere, go ahead, but wait for a patch and more content before diving in.

The concept of this game is great, the combat is at times fun, and the suits look cool. That's about all i can say that works in this game. This is the most repetitive, tedious, and broken game released in 2019. Walking - and only walking because its all thats allowed - in the main hub while going from quest giver to quest giver to hear a confusing story about a problem facing all of humanity that only you can solve, only to be thrown into a cookie cutter shooting range somewhere on the large but uncreative world is all that you'll experience during this game. The difficulty is solely based on how much health the enemies have, but the actual combat stay exactly the same. Every single mission is exactly the same, with minimal changes in scenery. Load times are absolutely insane. Story is bland, and just ad-libbed sci fi nonsense that does not do a good job of immersing the user in the world at all. I'm giving this game a 2/10 simply for the 20 mins of fun that I had initially. Expand
