Although Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 goes above and beyond that of a standard remaster by adding in new systems and mechanics, it still feels pretty bland and dated at its core. There’s no shortage of things to unlock and collect, and indeed the game has never looked so good, but its constant repetition and its recycled gameplay loop, ultimately drags the experience down. Furthermore, its asking price is far too steep.

Asterix & Obelix XXL2 is a reinvigorated adventure that now we can enjoy on Xbox One. The intense chaos of the combat against roman hordes, mixed with platforming and puzzle, make it a very enjoyable title, that secures you a good amount of laughs.

There are moments in Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 where you’ll realise it’s from a different era, especially in regards the cutscenes and puzzle concepts, but overall, it’s a fun experience that’ll remind you of so many nostalgic video game characters and franchises.

Asterix and Obelix XXL 2 was likely no one's first choice for a remaster, leaving only the original fans to return and enjoy it again. With gaming references aplenty and an abundance of fist fights and places to explore, the game offers a challenge and nostalgia for those that played it already. For everyone else, it's hard to recommend it, with overly long fighting sections, repetitive levels and overall gameplay that just feels dated in today's gaming world.

With easy-to-learn action gameplay and some colorful graphics, this Remastered is a good way to please nostalgic players. Sadly, upscaling and retexturing isn’t enough and the camera handling is still a problem, along with the lack of new features or even co-op mode.

If you happen to still love the Asterix & Obelix franchise, then I suppose Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 is a no-brainer. It’s not a bad game by any means, but it’s certainly not good or genre-defining in any way.

Overall, I found myself enjoying some parts of the combat and almost all the cut scene dialog but the majority of my experience was filled with repetitive gameplay and poorly integrated platforming.
