  • Summary: The reboot of the 1980s sci-fi tank shooter for a new generation. Battlezone Gold Edition features all additional content ever released for Battlezone, including all tank skins, bobbleheads and horns, as well as the Classic Mode that recreates the look of the arcade original.

An old school arcadey shooter with a great style, Battlezone is addictive, accessible fun.

From customizing your tank, to your campaign, to your multiplayer/single player experience, and so on, Battlezone offers you almost too many choices. However, that is the strength of the game and it works brilliantly. Battlezone is easily a must have purchase if you enjoy tank combat, arena combat, or are a fan of the classic Battlezone from 1980.

Battlezone Gold Edition is a great game that's easy to pick up and play; one that I'll certainly find myself dipping into little but often. It has some minor gameplay issues and imbalances, but they're quite easily overlooked when you're having a blast. And that's what's most important, surely?

Battlezone Gold Edition is fun, engaging and well developed. There’s plenty of content within, seemingly designed in such a way that it maintains a great level of replay value without running the risk of becoming stale and repetitive. It plays well, it looks great and above all else, it’s easy to gel with and understand. If you’re a fan of arcade tank warfare, Battlezone Gold Edition will be a great investment.

A fun, if slightly limited, retro reboot, that works very well as an arcade shooter even without the novelty of VR.

The graphics are good, the sound is excellent and the gameplay is very solid. It just doesn’t have the same wow factor as it did in 1980 in a smoky West London arcade, but if you’re looking for some tank on tank action, then you can do much worse than this.

Rebellion has done a splendid job with reigniting the Battlezone franchise, and if the Gold Edition is anything to go by, then there is a great foundation upon which to build.

I must admit that I’ve never been a fan of the VR system but I have heard good things from people who’ve enjoyed Battlezone in VR, so I didI must admit that I’ve never been a fan of the VR system but I have heard good things from people who’ve enjoyed Battlezone in VR, so I did have some interest to see how it would perform without the VR. Thankfully on the whole it performs pretty well and it does provide you with quite a few enjoyable moments but it doesn’t come without its problems as well. It does however get more things right than it gets wrong and when played with friends you end up having a huge amount of fun. The online components in the game work really well and I didn’t suffer with many problems at all. In fact the only real problem the online multiplayer suffers with is that the servers are a little empty so finding a game can be a little bit difficult at times. When you do get into a game though the gameplay can be very addictive and there is a great deal of variety in certain areas. One of the areas that has the most variety present is when it comes to the weapons you can use in the game. Each weapon has its pros and cons and they’re all fun to use and this definitely keeps things fresh and interesting for longer. Another aspect of the game that has a great deal of variety is the customisation that you’re allowed to do. You can chop and change a number of different things and this amount of freedom means no game ever plays the same, which in turn gives the game quite a bit of replay value. I will however recommend that you play the game in short bursts especially if you’re playing on your own because the missions can get a little reptetive after a bit. You will also have to deal with a high difficulty curve when playing alone and this will be off-putting for some, but I suggest that you ride it out because you will become more powerful as you progress through the game. Without a doubt one of my favourite things about the game was the presentation that has been implemented. If you like a retro look with a modern feel then this game will tick a lot of boxes for you. This look gives the game quite a bit of charm and I must admit that the visuals and sound design combined together extremely well culminating in even more fun being delivered to you. All in all this game does what it sets out to do and this is to deliver you a fun and enjoyable experience and on the whole the game works really well but I can’t help thinking that the game’s problems stop it from reaching its full potential. That being said it does enough to keep fans of this specific genre satisfied and it does enough to get a thumbs up from me. Expand
