This is Treyarch's masterwork and probably the best title in the series so far: with two campaigns comprising a deep and surprising story, 4 players co-op including local split-screen, the biggest Zombie map so far, extra modes and a rich and solid multiplayer, Black Ops III offers tons of content and hardly anything to complain about.

From its four-player co-op campaign to the brand-new powers and a fleshed-out Zombies mode, Black Ops 3 meaningfully pushes the Call of Duty series forward on several fronts. Even where it doesn't innovate, it still meets the high bar Call of Duty fans should expect.

The new Zombies mode is the most interesting offering, which places up to four players in a co-op survival experience against a legion of zombies and other nasties in a wave-based trek through a fictional film-noir city. With smooth jazz tones and a unlockable city full of secrets, your cast of characters with checkered pasts come together to try to escape the nightmare by acquiring new guns and gumball-fueled powers as they use currency to unlock new areas of the city and buy new weapons.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 does what you'd expect, and the new four-player co-op does not really add anything to that. But, there still has been progress in the franchise, thanks to a bizarre and intriguing single-player story that will haunt us for weeks.
  5. 80
Call of Duty: Black Ops III manages to miss the mark with the narrative in the campaign, despite what looks to be genuinely good intentions, but the tight gunplay mixed with cooperative options and customisations still made the experience fun, if somewhat shallow despite the solid campaign length.

The nine hour long story of Black Ops 3 is so bizarre, it took us a while to get our heads around it. But the fact that a CoD-game surprised us in 2015 is very positive. The gameplay however, is still solid as a rock.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III is just okay, but being just okay isn't enough to keep players entertained when there are so many better offerings available from the same series.

*Spoilers Kinda, No actual story related Spoilers*

I've not been a huge fan of COD for the last few year with Ghost making me want to suffocate myself, first COD game I couldn't be **** to get past level 10 on Multiplayer due to the lack of color and blandness, Advanced warfare was good with a great campagin and a decent Multiplayer but there was a lot lacking that made me stop playing soon after aswell mainly due to nothing to do but Multiplayer since Exo zombies is DLC only so that can **** off and Survival was just MW3 with Exo suits.

Black ops 3 however adds SO much to the game It makes it seem as though Advanced warfare was just a template, the maps are better the movement is improved and there are countless things to do. Ever wanted a reason to complete and replay the campaign? How about a new story but with the same key elements and Zombies? Now you can! With added powerups and of course Zombies it makes replaying not seem like replaying! Even with a new story. Actual Zombies is of course back and free with a massive map that is considerably harder compared to its other maps but is a lot of fun. The Multiplayer is made more interesting with Specialists who have different abilities making each matchup different.

Overall I'd say this is a huge step up and obviously when a game does increasingly better than the previous the next is bound to flop. Who's up for Ghosts 2? I know I'm not...So pick this game and pretend it's a 2 year cycle next year.

Fans expect the next call of duty to be even better with another award winning multiplayer, gritty campaign, and a zombie mode. With Black Ops 2 and Advanced warfare both being great hits, can Black Ops 3 live up to the franchises expectations of greatness? There are many new things in Call of Duty Black Ops 3 that makes it clearly different from the other previous games. It is set in a futuristic time period similar to Advanced Warfare, but what sets it aside from it is the difference in game mechanics. Unlike Advanced Warfare, where the game is based around clunky double jumping at every opportunity, the movement mechanics in Black Ops 3 are fluent and feel very well thought out. Also it still maintains its feel of a call of duty game. The developers introduced new specialist classes that have their own unique weapon, customizability, and abilities that are separate from a killstreak but are treated in the same manner. As always they introduced new weapons that are well balanced and unique from one another and new multiplayer maps. The game has been regularly updated with new content and patches that do not need to be purchased, however it will have additional content later down the line that will need to be purchased for additional multiplayer maps, weapons and customizable content. The black market is another interesting new feature that they introduced, allowing players to earn money in game and spend it on a random generated items, but can also be purchased using real money. Aside from the the 12 year old cussing players that plague the gaming community, this game earns a 8/10 in my book for its originality. It’s fun to play when you want to play a few quick games and everything from the movement to the map creation feels very good. The only major bad things this game suffers from, just like its predecessors, is the lack of teamwork in team based games, the introduction of micro transactions and the required purchase of additional content. But don’t be mistaken this game is still very well worth your time and has more than enough content with the base purchase to satisfy any gamers needs. Expand

Most reviews here aren't judging this game on its merits or flaws, but rather because of the series it's in.

Which is unfortunate, because Black Ops III deserves criticism, but not just because it's another Call of Duty game. I'll admit it's a factor, but that doesn't earn the game an immediate 0. Let's start with the negatives, that have been ignored in favor of the aforementioned or otherwise blindly glossed over.

This game has the worst multiplayer servers in the series, to the point that it's nearly unplayable. It's not unusual to be disconnected five times in a row. Host migrations almost always fail. Lobbies full of players but never start a match. Random and frequent lag spikes to 400 ping regardless of your connection speed. I once played ten minutes in game for what should have amounted to an hour. -2 for playability.

The single-player campaign is also easily the worst in the series. It's obvious that they just included it because they had to. Nonsensical plot, meaningless enemies, nonexistant effort put into this at all. If you've ever tried to get into it, I pity you. -2 for including this half-ass throwaway of a campaign.

Now for the positives. This is the best Zombies experience there is, on par with and built over the original experience in World at War. Diverse maps, great gameplay, complex mechanics that actually require some forethought, and an interesting wrap up to the background storyline to boot. +2 for impressing me on this part of the game, and -1 for deliberately putting the best parts of BO3 in $60 DLC.

The multiplayer gameplay itself is surprisingly good too, but the unreliability of the servers effectively cancel this out. The specialists and movement system keep things varied enough, and the new game modes like Safeguard are more than welcome. Relatively balanced gunplay. All in all it's still fun with a friend, and that's also the only reason I play it, if only to pass the time waiting to find a real match.

And yes, -2 for being another COD game. Starting at an 8/10 is more than fair. We all know the series has been milked, but compared to the immediate previous games in this series, BO3 is definitely a standout title. I'd even say that I'd rather play this than MW3 or BO2, and I'd rank BO3 above either of them.

Having played all since Modern Warfare, I had never loathed one like I do this game. Never have I played a Call of Duty game and have failed to have fun so often. My favorite weapons are the assault rifles in Call of Duty, and this is the first game I've played where they are unusable. SMGs completely destroy them in far too many situations. And on top of that, there are less ARs in this game than in any previous Black Ops game. Using SMGs all day long gets very repetitive and makes the game all the more bland. The maps are all mediocre, no classics here like Firing Range, Raid, of Standoff. The campaign is the worst to date with a lame story and incredibly boring gameplay with minimal level design. Expand

This call of duty could of been something different with the parkour system and the promising campaign but like every other call of duty gameThis call of duty could of been something different with the parkour system and the promising campaign but like every other call of duty game it is a **** flop, critics are paid to give good reviews, same gameplay, **** campaign but my problem with the game is that the developers talked about the "brand new and innovative parkour mechanic but the parkour mechanic is ripped straight out of titanfall and like I said befor the **** campaign is **** but the voice acting is like just causes voice acting, its like you get shia labeouf and megan fox to voice every character. Call of Duty is a dying franchise, the next cod needs time and effort put into it in order to bring back its audience but until then the Call of Duty franchise is just a joke Expand

They actually made new weapons, and put them, guess where, in supply drops. The drop rates for these weapons are .8 percent. That's ridiculous. They say its not gambling, because you can earn keys to get the drops in game, and drops usually give you a camo, but the keys take forever to get and the camos are **** 99 percent of the time. No, Im not some angry 12 year old writing this in the heat of the moment after I threw 200 dollars at the supply drops and got **** I have several of the weapons, but the fact is that many, many people have thrown away their money at Treyarchs gambling loophole. Acitvision needs to know that this **** isn't going to be tolerated by the community. Expand
